Book Synopsis Physics of Elementary Particles by : John David Jackson
Download or read book Physics of Elementary Particles written by John David Jackson and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory account of the physics of elementary particles and their interactions, with a minimum of formal apparatus and an ease of reading which, at present, is found in few other books in physics. It is designed for graduate students and for physicists not specializing in the field. The various phenomena are interpreted and correlated largely by means of elementary theoretical arguments needing little background beyond a first course in quantum mechanics. Numerous references to the original literature will allow the reader to probe more deeply into the topics discussed. Selected topics include scattering, photoproduction, K-mesons and hyperons, theoretical models, weak decay processes, and analysis of recent experiments on nonconservation of parity. Originally published in 1958. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference Mesons and Light Nuclei, organized by the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Rez, was held during July 2 - 7, 1995 in small north Bohemian town Straz pod Ralskem. It was the sixth in a series of meetings which took place previously at Liblice 74 and 81, Bechyne 85 and 88, and Prague 91. The conferences gained already their firm position among intermediate energy nuclear physics activities. International nuclear physics community strongly supported our intention to continue the series. This year's venue for the conference was the accommodation and social area of the DIAMO company at Straz. The goal of the meeting was to summarize the present situation and the future perspectives concerning the experimental investigations and theoreti cal descriptions of light nuclei and their interactions with electromagnetic and hadronic probes, mainly at intermediate energies. The scientific program of the conference included the following areas of research: nuclear physics with pions and antiprotons, T)-meson physics, baryonic systems with strangeness, relativis tic few-body dynamics, and electroweak nuclear interaction. Representatives from many international groups working within different experimental facili ties and with different theoretical methods were invited and asked to present their latest results and future research programs. The Straz conference, attended by 102 physicist from institutions in 22 countries, was sponsored by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, Czech Ministry for Industry and Trade, and by SKODA PRAHA a.s. Thanks to this sponsorship we could also invite several participants and students at essentially reduced cost.
Book Synopsis Some Recent Results in Hadronic Physics with Pions by :
Download or read book Some Recent Results in Hadronic Physics with Pions written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three topics in modern hadronic physics are developed with regard to their fundamental importance to our understanding of the strong interaction in general and nuclei in particular. These three subjects are: low energy pion-nucleon scattering and charge exchange, the study of the three nucleon system with elastic scattering of pions, and double charge exchange of pions on nuclei. In each case the studies are presented in terms of the fundamental motivations underlying them and the spectacular new data which is bringing new insight into these areas. 20 refs., 11 figs.

Book Synopsis 75 Years of the Pion by : Igor Strakovsky
Download or read book 75 Years of the Pion written by Igor Strakovsky and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "75 years past the discovery of the pion, this particle still fascinates researchers. This book, written at a level of a graduate text by experts, reviews the progress in theoretical and experimental research of the properties of the pion and describes how its studies help scientists to understand non-perturbative regime of Quantum Chromodynamics, the theory of strong interactions. We describe the current issues in precision analyses of production and decays of the pions and their low energy interactions with other strongly interacting particles, such as kaons and nucleons. We also discuss how precision analyses of transitions involving pions help us understand other interactions and even probe physics beyond the Standard Model. The book is aimed at advanced graduate students and researchers in theoretical and experimental particle and nuclear physics. It can be used as a teaching supplement to special topics courses at universities as well as for researchers from other fields of physics who are interested in the latest developments in low-energy particle and nuclear physics. Professional particle and nuclear physicists at various universities and laboratories will certainly find it useful. This book can also be used as a teaching supplement by the instructors of advanced physics courses for students"--

Book Synopsis Adventures In Theoretical Physics: Selected Papers With Commentaries by : Stephen L Adler
Download or read book Adventures In Theoretical Physics: Selected Papers With Commentaries written by Stephen L Adler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the period 1964-1972, Stephen L Adler wrote seminal papers on high energy neutrino processes, current algebras, soft pion theorems, sum rules, and perturbation theory anomalies that helped lay the foundations for our current standard model of elementary particle physics. These papers are reprinted here together with detailed historical commentaries describing how they evolved, their relation to other work in the field, and their connection to recent literature. Later important work by Dr Adler on a wide range of topics in fundamental theory, phenomenology, and numerical methods, and their related historical background, is also covered in the commentaries and reprints. This book will be a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers in the fields in which Dr Adler has worked, and for historians of science studying physics in the final third of the twentieth century, a period in which an enduring synthesis was achieved.
Book Synopsis From Nuclei and Their Constituents to Stars by : A. Molinari
Download or read book From Nuclei and Their Constituents to Stars written by A. Molinari and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the ideas to embed nuclear physics in the larger context of hadronic physics by stressing and deepening its widening overlap with particle, astroparticle and condensed matter physics and to emphasize the unity of the two facets not only of nuclear, but of the whole physics; the theoretical and the experimental ones. Counteracting the ominous trend of enlarging the gap between the two, the danger being of depriving experimental physics of ideas promoting experiments and of transforming theoretical physics into metaphysics. The reader will find modern conceptions on nuclear structure, how atomic nuclei are probed through the scattering of high energy electrons and how they interact when accelerated at ultra-relativistic energies. The item connects to the quest for the quark-gluon plasma, perhaps the central theme of the contemporary hadronic physics, whose unraveling requires a vast and profound knowledge of both nuclear and particle physics, in particular QCD.
