Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's a hard life being a Frontier Corps Ranger in Sector 12. Operating outside human-controlled space, dealing every day with hostile alien governments, criminals, anti-Frontier Corps paramilitary groups and the like while serving simultaneously as soldier, scout, operative, spy and roving law enforcement officer. Still Red (or Rab, or Rubicon, or a lot of other less polite names, ) manages to stay on top of things. Sure his methods might be just a mite, err, dynamic, garnering (wholly baseless) charges of being terminally insane, but at least he's always gotten the job done. So far. His current assignment might break that streak. A Frontier planet is the victim of extremely barbaric raiders, and the Ranger they've sent a distress call to is unavailable. In order to fulfill his mission Red might have to be polite to the settlers, maintain cordial relations, and worst of all, perhaps even compromise here and there. To die trying no longer seems like the worst possible outcome
Book Synopsis Sector 12 and the Art of Burning by : Joseph Kainz
Download or read book Sector 12 and the Art of Burning written by Joseph Kainz and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you're a Frontier Corps Ranger in Sector 12 there's always plenty of work that needs to be done. In your role as soldier there are paramilitary groups to fight and alien agencies to fend off. As a scout and spy you need to stay alert for signs of attacks on human space. As an operative you must do whatever you can to persuade the alien governments of The Other Side to leave Frontier Corps alone. Fortunately Rev (sometimes called Red, Rubicon, Rab and other names he doesn't care to repeat, ) is good at multi-tasking. Especially because he has an additional duty- a secret mission from Frontier Corps. Recent events on the planet Acan have given him a potential lead, and he's determined not to let the trail slip away this time. He will need that kind of focus, because there's a new player in Sector 12, an anti-Ranger paramilitary group with powerful backers. They've just finished devastating the Rangers in Sector 13 and now they're looking for fresh victims and new victories.
Book Synopsis Sector 12 and the Art of Dying by : Joseph Kainz
Download or read book Sector 12 and the Art of Dying written by Joseph Kainz and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rab's got a problem. Well, he's got several. It's not just that he's living outside human space and that humanity's defenses keep him there. It's not that he's a Ranger for the Frontier Corps, a more or less unsupported soldier with few resources and no backup. It's not even that Sector 12 is filled with a multitude of alien races that don't recognize his authority and so view him as a criminal or, worse, an enemy. No, Rab can deal with all this. He's dealt with it for a while. His real problems arrive when a group of Frontier Corps Marines gets blasted into Sector 12 during an unsuccessful attack. Rab is assigned the task of rescuing them, which is easier said than done given that someone almost immediately blows up his ship and tries to either kill or capture him for reasons unknown. That could be a problem.

Book Synopsis Art, Propaganda and Aerial Warfare in Britain during the Second World War by : Rebecca Searle
Download or read book Art, Propaganda and Aerial Warfare in Britain during the Second World War written by Rebecca Searle and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-23 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The War Artists' Advisory Committee (WAAC) were responsible for the production of some of the most iconic images of the Second World War. Despite its rich historical value, this collection has been poorly utilised by historians and hasn't been subjected to the levels of analysis afforded to other forms of wartime culture. This innovative study addresses this gap by bringing official war art into dialogue with the social, economic and military histories of the Second World War. Rebecca Searle explores the tensions between the documentarist and propagandistic roles of the WAAC in their representation of aerial warfare in the battle for production, the Battle of Britain, the Blitz and the bombing of Germany. Her analyses demonstrate that whilst there was a strong correlation between war art and propaganda, the WAAC depicted many aspects of experience that were absent from wartime propaganda, such as class divisions within the services, gendered hierarchies within industries, civilian death and the true nature of the bombing of Germany. In addition, she shows that propagandistic constructions were not entirely separate from lived experience, but reflected experience and shaped the way that individuals made sense of the war. Accessibly written, highly illustrated and packed with valuable examples of the use of war art as historical source, this book will enhance our understanding of the social and cultural history of Britain during the Second World War.
Book Synopsis The Economics of Art and Culture by : James Heilbrun
Download or read book The Economics of Art and Culture written by James Heilbrun and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-04-23 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2001 second edition of this survey of the economics of - and public policy towards - the fine arts and performing arts covers arts at federal, state, and local levels in the United States as well as the international arts sector. The work will interest academic readers in the field and scholars of the sociology of the arts, as well as general readers seeking a systematic analysis of the arts. Theoretical concepts are developed from scratch so that readers with no background in economics can follow the argument. The authors look at the arts' historical growth and then examine consumption and production of the live performing arts and the fine arts, the functioning of arts markets, the financial problems of performing arts companies and museums, and the key role of public policy. A final chapter speculates about the future of art and culture in the United States.

Book Synopsis The Art of Not Falling Apart by : Christina Patterson
Download or read book The Art of Not Falling Apart written by Christina Patterson and published by Atlantic Books (UK). This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We plan, as the old proverb says, and God laughs. But most of us don't find it all that funny when things go wrong. Most of us want love, a nice home, good work, and happy children. Many of us grew up with parents who made these things look relatively easy and assumed we would get them, too. So what do you do if you don't? What do you do when you feel you've messed it all up and your friends seem to be doing just fine? For Christina Patterson, it was her job as a journalist that kept her going through the ups and downs of life. And then she lost that, too. Dreaming of revenge and irritated by self-help books, she decided to do the kind of interviews she had never done before. The resulting conversations are surprising, touching and often funny. There's Ken, the first person to be publicly fired from a FTSE-100 board. There's Winston, who fell through a ceiling onto a purple coffin. There's Louise, whose baby was seriously ill, but who still worried about being fat. And through it all, there's Christina, eating far too many crisps as she tries to pick up the pieces of her life. The Art of Not Falling Apart is a joyous, moving, and sometimes shockingly honest celebration of life as an adventure, one where you ditch your expectations, raise a glass, and prepare for a rocky ride.
