Book Synopsis Search for New Phenomena in Top-Antitop Quarks Final States with Additional Heavy-Flavour Jets with the ATLAS Detector by : Daiki Yamaguchi
Download or read book Search for New Phenomena in Top-Antitop Quarks Final States with Additional Heavy-Flavour Jets with the ATLAS Detector written by Daiki Yamaguchi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on the search for a new heavy particle, the Vector-Like Top quark (VLT), in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The signal process is the pair production of VLT decaying into a Higgs boson and top quark (TT→Ht+X, X=Ht, Wb, Zt). The signal events result in top–antitop quarks final states with additional heavy flavour jets. The book summarises the analysis of the data collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. In order to better differentiate between signals and backgrounds, exclusive taggers of top quark and Higgs boson were developed and optimised for VLT signals. These efforts improved the sensitivity by roughly 30%, compared to the previous analysis. The analysis outcomes yield the strongest constraints on parameter space in various BSM theoretical models. In addition, the book addresses detector operation and the evaluation of tracking performance. These efforts are essential to properly collecting dense events and improving the accuracy of the reconstructed objects that are used for particle identification. As such, they represent a valuable contribution to data analysis in extremely dense environments.

An airport killer targeting pilots expands his scope. Alex Cross Must Die. “Drop whatever you’re doing, Detective Cross, and head to Reagan Airport,” DC Metro Police dispatch says. “A jet just crashed and exploded on the runway. The chief and the FBI want you and John Sampson there pronto.” Cross and Sampson race to the crash site. The plane didn’t fail—it was shot down by a stolen Vietnam War–era machine gun. The list of experts who can operate the weapon is short. And time before another lethal strike runs even shorter. Especially for Detective Cross. Alex Cross Must Die.

Book Synopsis Practical Physics by : Cyril Ashford
Download or read book Practical Physics written by Cyril Ashford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-03 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1950, this book was designed to practically teach upper-level school students the properties and behaviours of materials in elementary physics. The book is divided into three principal sections, 'Mechanics,' 'Light' and 'Heat', and presents a collection of theories, experiments and observations on each topic. Notably, the experiments are based on previously set examination questions and include 'Torsional oscillations of a suspended bar', 'Oblique incidence on a lens' and 'Resistance of a stretched wire'. Linear equations and diagrams are included throughout to support the text, and an introduction is also provided. This book will be of great value to researchers and scholars of physics and to anyone with an interest in the history of education.
Book Synopsis Relevance Theory in Translation and Interpreting by : Fabrizio Gallai
Download or read book Relevance Theory in Translation and Interpreting written by Fabrizio Gallai and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-31 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates the potential of Relevance Theory (RT) in offering a cognitive-pragmatic, cause-effect account of translation and interpreting (T&I), one which more closely engages T&I activity with the mental processes of speakers, listeners, writers, and readers during communicative acts. The volume provides an overview of the cognitive approach to communication taken by RT, with a particular focus on the distinction between explicit and implicit content and the relationship between thoughts and utterances. The book begins by outlining key concepts and theory in RT pragmatics and charting the development of their disciplinary relationship with work from T&I studies. Chapters draw on practical examples from a wide range of T&I contexts, including news media, scientific materials, literary translation, audiovisual translation, conference interpreting, and legal interpreting. The book also explores the myriad applications of RT pragmatics-inspired work and future implications for translation and interpreting research. This volume will be of interest to scholars in T&I studies and pragmatics.

Book Synopsis Experimental Insights into the Syntax of Romanian Ditransitives by : Alina Tigău
Download or read book Experimental Insights into the Syntax of Romanian Ditransitives written by Alina Tigău and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the syntax of Romanian ditransitives building on new experimental data with a view to enable a more accurate understanding of these constructions regarding their underlying configuration(s), the structural import of Differential Object Marking or Clitic Doubling among others. One first attempt is to explain the (relatively) free word-order manifested by the two internal arguments, and their symmetrical potential for anaphor and possessor binding. Evidence is provided as to the relative hierarchical order of the two object DPs, with the direct object as the lower one. The featural make-up of the two objects also proves crucial in disentangling the various experimentally uncovered aspects regarding their interaction e.g., differentially marked direct objects bear a [Person] feature and compete with the indirect object in valuing the person feature of the applicative. The feature specification is further refined function of the presence of clitic doubling or the lack thereof. The experimental insights we gain into the syntax of Romanian ditransitives help us integrate them with their counterparts in Romance thereby contributing to a better cross-linguistic understanding of these constructions.
