Book Synopsis Spiritual Landscape by : James L. Resseguie
Download or read book Spiritual Landscape written by James L. Resseguie and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "James Resseguie draws from recent studies in narrative criticism and the New Testament to bring our attention to the spiritual significance of the physical landscapes, social relationships, and economy in Luke's Gospel. Gleaning from this rich perspective, Resseguie explores Luke's illustrations of spiritual formation and development. Students, preachers, spiritual directors, and readers interested in spirituality from a biblical perspective will gain insight from the role that stories such as the road to Emmaus, a widdow's offering, the tax collector's feast, and the demoniac's change of clothes play in the Lukan narrative." --

Book Synopsis The Yahwist's Landscape by : Theodore Hiebert
Download or read book The Yahwist's Landscape written by Theodore Hiebert and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996-06-20 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present ecological crisis has created new interest in and criticism of biblical attitudes toward nature. In this book Theodore Hiebert offers a comprehensive examination of the ideology of a single biblical author--the Yahwist (J), writer of the oldest narrative sections of Genesis, Exodus, and Numbers. Hiebert argues the importance of reading J in its ancient Near Eastern context. His analysis incorporates evidence concerning the ecologies, economies, and religions of the ancient Levant drawn from recent work in archaeology, history, social anthropology, and comparative religion. Hiebert finds that despite the limitations of J's world view (and the world in which it took shape), J's ideology is relevant to contemporary efforts to frame a theology of ecology. Particularly valuable are J's views of reality as unified and non-dualistic, humanity as limited and dependent, nature and humanity as interrelated and holding sacred significance, and agriculture as a context for an ecological theology.
Book Synopsis Sauntering Through Scripture by : Genevieve Glen
Download or read book Sauntering Through Scripture written by Genevieve Glen and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible presents a landscape rich with characters whose stories and prophecies, wisdom and woes, parables and prayers describe our very human struggle to know and respond to the love of God. Repeated reading and retelling make these texts familiar, and yet we encounter them anew in these fresh, intimate, and sometimes startling reflections by master storyteller Genevieve Glen, OSB. Sr. Genevieve writes with a vivid and poetic imagination. Drawing on her life of monastic prayer and the practice of Lectio Divina—a life saturated in Scripture—she pulls us deeply into these stories. Sauntering through this holy ground with her we enter small villages and busy towns, sheepfolds and gardens, a nomad’s tent and a rich man’s house, a stable in Bethlehem and the great temple in Jerusalem. Most of all we encounter the transforming message and mercy of God in Jesus Christ.
