Book Synopsis Critique in Design and Technology Education by : P John Williams
Download or read book Critique in Design and Technology Education written by P John Williams and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses notions of critique in Design and Technology Education, facilitating a conceptual and practical understanding of critique, and enabling both a personal and pedagogical application to practice. Critique can be a frame of mind, and may be related to a technology, product, process or material. In a holistic sense, critique is an element of a person’s technological literacy, a fundamentally critical disposition brought to bear on all things technological. This book provides a reasoned conceptual framework within which to develop critique, and examples of applying the framework to Design and Technology Education. The book builds on The Future of Technology Education published by Springer as the first in the series Contemporary Issues in Technology Education. In the 21st century, an ‘age of knowledge’, students are called upon to access, analyse and evaluate constantly changing information to support personal and workplace decision making and on-going innovation. A critical Design and Technology Education has an important role to play, providing students with opportunities to integrate economic, environmental, social and technological worlds as they develop and refine their technological literacy. Through the design and development of technology, they collaborate, evaluate and critically apply information, developing cognitive and manipulative skills appropriate to the 21st century. Critique goes beyond review or analysis, addressing positive and negative technological development. This book discusses and applies this deeper perspective, identifying a clear role for critique in the context of Design and Technology Education.

Book Synopsis Technologie Et Demande de Compétences by : Surendra Gera
Download or read book Technologie Et Demande de Compétences written by Surendra Gera and published by Industrie Canada. This book was released on 1999 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the effect of technological change on the relative demand for skilled workers across Canadian industries. Using data from a number of Canadian labour market surveys, the paper examines whether skill intensity has risen across industries over the 1981-1994 period, and whether biased technological change is the main cause of the shift in demand toward skilled workers. The paper develops two industry-based skill measures: one based on the skill classification identified in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), and the other based on the skill classification scheme proposed by Wolff and Baumol. It then combines data on skills with four industry-level measures of technology: the stock of research and development (R&D), the stock of patents used by the industry, total factor productivity, and the age of the capital stock.
Book Synopsis Beyond Public Engagement by : Pedro Ruiz-Castell
Download or read book Beyond Public Engagement written by Pedro Ruiz-Castell and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: University collections have unquestionably played a central role in the production of knowledge. They are valuable resources for studying the construction of traditions and identities, proving particularly interesting for understanding how universities have shaped societies. Furthermore, they have also been mobilised as cultural mediators to legitimise academic institutions and bring the results of their activities into the public sphere. As such, academic collections undoubtedly enable reflection on the complex relationships between heritage, knowledge, scholars, and the public. Given their importance, the development of successful strategies in terms of public engagement has recently become a major concern for those working with these academic collections. However, the complexity of university heritage encompasses a diversity of issues that are connected with more than just the public sphere. This volume discusses some of the problems, challenges, and opportunities of academic heritage, beyond the mere concern for engaging with the public.
Book Synopsis Recherches ouvertes sur le numérique by : PAPY Fabrice
Download or read book Recherches ouvertes sur le numérique written by PAPY Fabrice and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
