Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happened to the little girl that was stubborn, sensitive, social, and sassy? Somewhere along the journey, she became scared shitless to success. You know, the labels that you give to yourself, the labels that others give to you, the unexpected event that happens in your life that shakes your confidence and paralyzes you from making your next step, or what about being an absolute perfectionist? Oh wait, perfection doesn't exist. While some people are afraid of failure, others are scared of success or should I say, scared shitless to success. What are you truly afraid of—happiness, what others will think or say, humiliation, being rejected? Have you ever found yourself asking the questions "Why am I here? What's my purpose? What's my why? Is there more to life than this?" Remember, everyone has a purpose, and your purpose is waiting for you to step up and show up to help the next person.Although Dr. K had the chance to show up in a world where it's easy to be mediocre, mediocre was never the life for her. Dr. K will take you on a journey of how she rewired her mindset, rewrote her narrative, regained her confidence, and rediscovered her purpose. This journey came with lessons and blessings. She learned that it's okay to be afraid, but have the courage to take the first step or the next step even if you are scared shitless to success.

If you’re tired of working the Monday-Friday grind and experiencing the “Sunday scaries” in which you dread the thought of waking up to go to work the next morning, then it’s time to make a change. Dan Meredith felt this way at one point too. He’d be shattered each Monday morning as his alarm clock forced him awake to go to a job that he hated. He lived life sitting in an office, slowly going insane, making someone else money while his life slipped by. So at thirty-three-years-old, he finally said, “f*ck it!” He stopped making excuses and searched for the secret of success, longing for the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Now, he’s here to teach you just how he did it. How he went from maxing out every single credit card bill he had to running a fully automated fitness facility and a successful copywriting business. He went from barely affording pizza to hosting sold-out events with some of the biggest names in the world of entrepreneurs. So how did he do it? Keep reading to find out the secrets to success, including why being selfish is a good thing, or why you should begin taking train trips to nowhere.

Book excerpt: Nought's had, all's spent, Where our desire is got without content: 'Tis safer to be that which we destroy Than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy. So speaks Lady Macbeth upon the attainment of the aim of her ambition (act 3, scene 2). Is this expression of a fear of success the consequence of the highly competitive arena in which she is striving to achieve? Will this sentiment later lead to the avoidance of this or other forms of success? Does she fear success because she is a woman? While the fear and avoidance of success are ideas that are not new to psychology or to human behavior, recent work by Matina Homer has excited great interest in the psychological measure of a personal disposition to avoid success and a behavioral measure of that avoidance. It is with this recent wave of research and writing that Part II of this book is concerned. Great personal interest was stimulated in the "fear of success" concept. It is not only the hypochondriacs who find in the idea of a "fear of success" syndrome an explanation for the course of their lives. In Part I are presented the earlier forms which the concept of "fear of success" took, especially in psychoanalytic theory and per sonality theory, originating with Freud's discussion of "those wrecked by success," but citing some of the much older cultural traditions involving a fear and/or avoidance of success.

Book excerpt: Raw, intimate, and timely, Nadia Bolz-Weber's latest book offers a full-blown overhaul of our harmful and antiquated ideas about sex, gender, and our bodies. Christians are obsessed with sex. But not in a good way. For nearly two thousand years, this obsession has often turned destructive, inflicting pain, suffering, and guilt on countless people of all persuasions and backgrounds. In Shameless, Bolz-Weber calls for a reformation. To make her case, she offers experiences from her own life and stories from her parishoners alongside biblical theology to explore what the church has taught, and the harm those teachings have caused. Along the way, she re-examines patriarchy, sex, and power with candour but also with hope, because in her heart she believes the "Gospel is powerful enough, transgressive enough, and beautiful enough to heal not only the ones who have been hurt but also those who have done the hurting." This is by far Bolz-Weber's most personal book yet, revealing intimate and emotional details about her life while offering a reading experience that is as entertaining and affirming as it is intellectually robust and liberating. For anyone who has been harmed by the shaming sexual messages so prevalent in religion, this book is for you.

Book excerpt: A funny, sexy, and wildly entertaining look at the rewards of fully realized desire in the life of one ordinary woman. At 43 years old, Pamela Madsen was happily married to the man she fell in love with at 17. She was the mother of two sons and had a successful career as a nationally known advocate for fertility issues. But she felt a growing sexual restlessness and yearning that wouldn't let up. And though Pamela loved her husband and didn't want to have an affair, she knew deep down that she needed more, much more. In Shameless, she tells the story of how she found it—and not only kept her marriage intact but made it stronger than ever. In this fearless memoir, Pamela tells the story of her search for sexual, personal, and spiritual wholeness. She explores, in riveting detail, what she experienced at the hands of sexual healers, men who brought her untold pleasure (and became her close friends in the process). But this is not just another sex book: Shameless is also an account of how Pamela's journey healed her issues with food and body image and most important, helped her weave the many roles that she played—daughter, friend, partner, mother—into one fully integrated person. It is a story about a woman falling in love with herself and a call to other women to do the same.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I worked for decades as psychoanalyst and researcher in forensic psychiatric settings with psychopaths. I was fascinated by those psychopaths who were cured and wrote my PhD-thesis about remission in psychopaths, which is a very rare phenomenon, indeed. I was astonished about the simplicity of ideas and misconceptions about psychopathy of other scholars. I knew from my own and other psychopaths experiences that the reality of the psychopathic condition was much more complex than they ever could conceive. This motivated me the write a number of articles in international journals in order to make an attempt to correct and complement current theories of psychopaths. I am retired now since 5 years and I enjoyed to be in the circumstance to focus myself completely on my old passion, namely composing of music. However, my repose was disturbed by a well-known scholar and friend who asked me to write a book about my own experienced as a psychopath. And so I decided to accept this last task before I should leave forever the scientific arena of the forensic psychiatry. And I do it with a good reason. Psychopaths might regard their features, attitude and behavior quite differently than their non-psychopathic counterparts and psychiatric researchers do. This distinction might be the result of a) ignorance of non-psychopaths about the true nature of this complex disorder, b) a very different perspective of psychopaths and non-psychopaths in analyzing this phenomenon, c) the fact that most empirical data is gathered from incarnated, criminal populations who are very able to manipulate tests (most of them know much about the PCL-R), assessments, researchers, and therapists (just for fun, revenge, hatred, or disgust) and d) a lack of utilization of and unavailability of reliable and voluntary self-reports of psychopaths in informal settings, and so on. Informal, non-academic and non-clinical settings are important because the psychopaths I investigated hate formal academic and clinical settings because they consider them as bulwarks of repressing authority which are harmful for them. They consider current theories and concepts of psychopathy as inadequate, incomplete, incorrect, stereotype which bring about stigmatization.
