Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “There are two kinds of people in this word; people who take and people who get taken from. I don’t intend to be the latter anymore.” –Law Calloway They say friends make the worst enemies, but what about family? The Calloway family secret was supposed to be taken to the grave. Now that Raquel knows the two feuding families are intertwined in more ways than one, and the man she loves is presumed dead, she has to figure out her next move. Whatever she decides, she has to be careful. After all, she’s carrying around his family’s biggest secret, along with what happened to Nashiya. Will Raquel succumb to the fast and dangerous life of the man she loves as part of her vengeance against Dallas, or, will Derrick, the one skeleton from her past, spill the secret that unravels everything? Everyone thinks that dead men tell no tales, but that is a deadly mistake. Now that the people Law loves and those who hate him the most think he’s out of the picture for good, he can make his moves in silence as he continues to lay out his plan on the path to ultimate respect. He plans to leave no stone unturned when it comes to getting Detective Mason and the Price family off his back for good, because this time around, he’s playing for keeps. In the blink of an eye, Blaze finds himself faced with new responsibilities, and the weight of the world is on his shoulders now that he thinks he’s the only Calloway man left to redeem his family’s name. With a baby on the way and a new relationship blooming with Nevaeh, he has to be more mindful of the moves he makes. Thinking with his mind and not with his gun for the first time may be one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do. Even with Nashiya gone, Dallas still held up his end of their final bargain by giving Law a wedding gift he’d never forget. What he doesn’t know is he may be playing right into Law’s hand. Dallas has his own ulterior motives in this cat and mouse game, and wants proof of the information Raquel revealed to him to save her life. Because now he knows the Price’s and Calloway’s were more than just enemies, they were family. In the finale of this ride or die love story, everyone is seeking their own revenge by any means necessary. As secrets come pouring out like rain, will love conquer all, even when it’s foundation is shaky? For both families, it’s not the beginning of the story that concerns them, it’s not knowing how it will all end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1948 the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and with it a profusion of norms, processes, and institutions to define, promote, and protect human rights. Today virtually every cause seeks to cloak itself in the righteous language of rights. But even so, this universal reliance on the rights idiom has not succeeded in creating common ground and deep agreement as to the scope, content, and philosophical bases for human rights. Makau Mutua argues that the human rights enterprise inappropriately presents itself as a guarantor of eternal truths without which human civilization is impossible. Mutua contends that in fact the human rights corpus, though well meaning, is a Eurocentric construct for the reconstitution of non-Western societies and peoples with a set of culturally biased norms and practices. Mutua maintains that if the human rights movement is to succeed, it must move away from Eurocentrism as a civilizing crusade and attack on non-European peoples. Only a genuine multicultural approach to human rights can make it truly universal. Indigenous, non-European traditions of Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and the Americas must be deployed to deconstruct—and to reconstruct—a universal bundle of rights that all human societies can claim as theirs.

Book excerpt: The political crises and upheavals of our age often originate from the periphery rather than the center of power. Figures like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, and Chelsea Manning acted in ways that disrupted power, revealing truths that those in power wanted to keep hidden. They are thorns in the side of power, troublemakers in the eyes of the powerful, though their actions may be valuable and lead to positive changes. In this important new book, Dieter Thomä examines the crucial but often overlooked function of these figures on the margins of society, developing a philosophy of troublemakers from the seventeenth century to the present day. Thomä takes as his starting point Hobbes’s idea of the puer robustus (literally “stout boy”), meaning a figure who rebels against order and authority. While Hobbes saw the puer robustus as a threat, he also recognized the potential, in the right conditions, for figures to rise up and become agents of positive change. Building on this notion, Thomä provides a rich survey of intellectuals who have been inspired by this idea over the past 300 years, from Rousseau, Diderot, Schiller, Victor Hugo, Marx, and Freud to Carl Schmitt, Leo Strauss, and Horkheimer, right up to the recent work of Badiou and Agamben. In doing so, he develops a typology of the puer robustus and a means by which we can evaluate and assess the troublemakers of our own times. Thomä shows that troublemakers are an inescapable part of modernity, for as soon as social and political boundaries are defined, there will always be figures challenging them from the margins. This book will be of great interest not only to students and scholars in the humanities and social sciences but to anyone seeking to understand the crucial impact of these liminal figures on our world today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the product of a multi-year dialogue between leading human rights theorists and high-level representatives of international human rights NGOs (INGOs). It is divided into three parts that reflect the major ethical challenges discussed at the workshops: the ethical challenges associated with interaction between relatively rich and powerful northern-based human rights INGOs and recipients of their aid in the South; whether and how to collaborate with governments that place severe restrictions on the activities of human rights INGOs; and the tension between expanding the organization's mandate to address more fundamental social and economic problems and restricting it for the sake of focusing on more immediate and clearly identifiable violations of civil and political rights. Each section contains contributions by both theorists and practitioners of human rights.

Book excerpt: Please read entire description before purchase.*When a Biker with a tortured past, meets a mysterious woman in a dangerous situation, she becomes a light in his dark life that he'll do anything to keep. But she has a dark past of her own. One that is creeping ever closer, threatening to extinguish that light forever....*This is the story of Dean and Vanna. Two star crossed lovers who come to realize that they need each other to survive, in more ways than one. *Dean Keegan is a Vigilante Biker with a tortured past, who makes abusers of women and children pay for their crimes against the innocent. The story begins with Dean at rock bottom, on the verge of giving up after having lost his marriage and about to be thrown out of his club. His personal life is a wreck, but then Dean meets a unique woman named Vanna, who is unbeknownst to him, in hiding from her ex fiance cop currently doing time for nearly killing her years prior. They both have emotional scars and inner demons they're dealing with, that effect their lives and especially their budding relationship.*This is an in depth love story between two damaged characters that takes place in a small country town in a fictionalized region of the Carolina's. *The main story line of this book is wrapped up by the end, with a happily ever after for now (HEAFN), however there is a building story in the background that will continue and carry over into the upcoming Book 2. So technically you could say there is a "cliffhanger". *This isn't exactly an insta-love story, but could be considered a mutual insta-lust, that develops into true love. The circumstances around their relationship are unique and complicated at times, especially coming from two different walks of life. Dean and Vanna DO NOT cheat on each other, and though Vanna self identifies as a pagan witch, this is NOT written as a paranormal romance. There are witches in the world, just as there are bikers. It's up to the reader to decide whether or not spells or magic are real. Also, there isn't an extreme age gap (28h/37H)* SAVIOR Book 1, is not your typical MC Romance style book, though the main character is a Biker with connections to an MC. At 660+ pages, it is fast paced, and centers more heavily on the love story than MC politics, for a majority of the book. The MC politics are brewing in the background throughout the story, and will carry over into the sequel.* TRIGGER WARNING: Contains Explicit Adult Content: Sex, Profanity, Violence, Blasphemy, Brief Depictions of Abuse. Not recommended for anyone under the age of 18, or anyone triggered by the above mentioned.
