Book Synopsis The Drowned and the Saved by : Primo Levi
Download or read book The Drowned and the Saved written by Primo Levi and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his final book before his death, Primo Levi returns once more to his time at Auschwitz in a moving meditation on memory, resiliency, and the struggle to comprehend unimaginable tragedy. Drawing on history, philosophy, and his own personal experiences, Levi asks if we have already begun to forget about the Holocaust. His last book before his death, Levi returns to the subject that would define his reputation as a writer and a witness. Levi breaks his book into eight essays, ranging from topics like the unreliability of memory to how violence twists both the victim and the victimizer. He shares how difficult it is for him to tell his experiences with his children and friends. He also debunks the myth that most of the Germans were in the dark about the Final Solution or that Jews never attempted to escape the camps. As the Holocaust recedes into the past and fewer and fewer survivors are left to tell their stories, The Drowned and the Saved is a vital first-person testament. Along with Elie Wiesel and Hannah Arendt, Primo Levi is remembered as one of the most powerful and perceptive writers on the Holocaust and the Jewish experience during World War II. This is an essential book both for students and literary readers. Reading Primo Levi is a lesson in the resiliency of the human spirit.
Book Synopsis Santa Claus, Satellites, Cellphones & Sinkholes by : Keith G. Laufenberg
Download or read book Santa Claus, Satellites, Cellphones & Sinkholes written by Keith G. Laufenberg and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-03 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Santa Claus, Satellites, Cellphones & Sinkholes in Spring Hill we see into the lives of a small Tampa Bay suburb and the lives of many of its residents. The author delves into many of the problems that confront it's residents almost daily, including such things as a large generation gap between many of the communities senior citizens and the millennial generation. Such things as cultural issues, religious issues, political issues; previous and present-day wars and revolutions and what they meant in the past and may mean in the future and government agendas pertaining to the enormous gap of wealth between societal groups are just some of those problems. Another larger problem turns out to be why it is that so many struggle in the computer generation while others do well only because they are so well-versed in the use and knowledge of satellites, cellphones and the digitally computerized gadgets that will make or break many a company, corporation and human being in the future. And, finally, the truth of what Christmas has been, is and should be takes center stage and if, and how it is that Santa Claus figures into this equation, by how much, and why and is it only children who can believe in Santa Claus?
Book Synopsis Peace On Earth & Collected Plays by : Keith G. Laufenberg
Download or read book Peace On Earth & Collected Plays written by Keith G. Laufenberg and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Peace on Earth we see into both sides of a vicious, blood-curdling battle in the trenches of WWI, when poison gas, hand-to-hand combat and starvation still played a big role in wars between countries. In a true event, something that history verifies happened, we get a glimpse of what could have happened on that day on the Western Front, between two armies, and the human beings who discovered there humanity on that Christmas Day, in the year of Our Lord, 1914. In Muhammad's Revenge we see how the world can be, has been and will be again, changed in dramatically, historic fashion until it no longer is a world. And, in the Duke, we see into the life of a totally disreputable, thoroughly unlikeable character but whose traits we all recognize because that are not only those of someone we have known but traits that we ourselves have suppressed most our lives. In fact, the further we read, the more we realize that we, ourselves have some, maybe too many, of those same traits ourselves.
Book Synopsis The Manly Art by : Keith G. Laufenberg
Download or read book The Manly Art written by Keith G. Laufenberg and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Manly Art is another collection of writer Keith G. Laufenberg's short stories, only this time with the defining factor being that they all involve the sport of boxing. Having been in the sport himself, beginning at age 17, when he entered Marine Corps boot camp, and ending after seven years, fought as a professional, he is afforded a closer more intimate look into the boxers lives. In "Sonny Liston's Eyes," the reader is taken into the Underworld of the sport when a writer interviews an ex-mobster-who is dying of lung cancer-and claims to have killed Sonny Liston, as well as JFK and Martin Luthur King Jr. He tells an incredible story but backs it up by saying he has absolutely verifiable evidence that he will produce for the writer. In "Frankenstein" we see why a young amateur boxer should have picked boxing over football. He has little say in the matter though as his father and uncle have trained him his entire life for football and it, along with the other stories, will keep you glued to the page.
Book Synopsis The Anxious Assassins by : Keith G. Laufenberg
Download or read book The Anxious Assassins written by Keith G. Laufenberg and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anxious Assassins is another attempt at finally finding out the truth of what happened on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. In a 2003 interview, Robert Blakey, the Chief Counsel of the HSCA issued a statement on the CIA: "...I no longer believe that we were able to conduct an appropriate investigation of the CIA and its relationship to Oswald.... We now know that the Agency withheld from the Warren Commission the CIA-Mafia plots to kill Castro. Had the commission known of the plots, it would have followed a different path in its investigation. The Agency unilaterally deprived the commission of a chance to obtain the full truth, which will now never be known. Significantly, the Warren Commission's conclusion that the agencies of the government co-operated with it is, in retrospect, not the truth. The Agency's process could only have been designed to frustrate the ability of the committee in 1976-1979.If you want the real story you'll have to read "The Anxious Assassins."
Book Synopsis Cowboys and Indians by : Keith G. Laufenberg
Download or read book Cowboys and Indians written by Keith G. Laufenberg and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-01-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Cowboys and Indians" is a look back into history and it explores the entire continent of America which was originally inhabited by Native Americans, none of whom had, or have ever, any familial ties to Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer who was said to have discovered America. The theme throughout is the undeniable fact that the earth upon which we all live is being systematically strangled, drilled, poisoned, beaten and bartered to death. The undeniable truth shows us that the European immigrants had a philosophical difference with the Native Americans that they encountered living on the shores that they invaded and vanquished and always with the same thought in mind: to steal the land from the ignorant Indians, ignorant because they showed no knowledge of the financial worth of the land, the minerals inside of it and the animals living upon it. In "The Good Father" we see that, in fact, the Immigrants actually have (at least) one who the Indians (Native Americans) can agree with and get along with: A Jesuit Priest named Pierre DeSmet who had come to America as a missionary. The Indians did not understand why the missionaries who preached to them about a man who walked the earth many moons ago was to be revered as God when they themselves--the missionaries--did not act as they claimed their God-man had told them to. But, then, they found out that DeSmet, who all the tribes took to calling the Good Father, was not anything like the others because he did not covet land or women, or gold and silver or drink whiskey but devoted himself to spreading the gospel of peace and love and the name of Jesus Christ and his teachings. He knew the Indians believed in spirits and he preached to them about the Holy Spirit and they told him about the Great Spirit. If you enjoy historical truths seen through the eyes of both sides you will enjoy all twenty of these stories.

Laufenberg that brings the reality of life in America-that of a nation where virtually everything, including health care, is available for profit only and must be bought & paid for-before delivery. Every working and non-working American-disabled, either by sickness or poverty-has lived through this and, to this very day, in 2014, continue to live through it. These stories graphically illustrate why it is the Capitalist System itself that harbors institutions that lie, rob, cheat and steal and all in the name of the very God that they all worship-profit! It shows why they-the the doctors, lawyers, politicians and insurance companies-have a strangle hold on America which can only end in the country experiencing a depression a bankruptcy-or both-or a revolution. These stories will keep you reading long into the day or night as you root for the underdog, even though you know he may not ""win,"" this time around.

Book excerpt: "THE HUMAN BEINGS" is a story written for children, of all ages, from 1-120. It is a story that sticks to the truth, as much as the imagination of any child can stick to the truth. The roots of the story come from the biblical Adam & Eve story and progress in a vein that is intended for little children, as well as all children, to learn how they must treat animals, as well as each other in order not just to be happy but even to assure the survival of the entire planet's population. It centers on the fact that both men and women, human beings, must get along, not only with each other, by not judging one another and engaging in war after war with each other but also with the animal kingdom and the fact that the human beings must learn how to live with every creature on earth because if human beings cannot even learn the simple truth that they must befriend and share the earth with their animal brethren than they will never be able to befriend and share the earth with human beings of a different skin color, country or religion.

In the title story, "Muhammad's Revenge," we see how the war experiences of a single human being can bring an apocalypse to the entire world. In "Peace on Earth" the realities of the horrors of World War I become starkly vivid and real but so does the humanity of mankind when the Germans and the English armies call a one-day truce, a historic event, that actually did happen. In "Big Sugar," as in all these stories, we see the personal as well as private lives of many of the characters, in their darkest moments and how one life's circumstances which end in a tragic death can alter history for all the others involved for the better.
