Book excerpt: Imprisoned by a fanatical, corrupt maharajah in the torrid climes of 1910 India, Sarabande Swinford battles the maharajah's lust and another man's passions, all while desperately trying to regain her memory. She has forgotten her perilous adventures in both love and fortunes, but her intrepid spirit remains as she encounters jealousy in the harem, man- and woman-eating crocodiles, and venomous snakes, all in her attempts at escape. Her defender in every potentially fatal situation is, surprisingly, the rajah, brother to the maharajah. Rami is all the maharajah is not: handsome and muscular, graceful, intelligent, and compassionate, a fitting challenge to Sary's spirited nature, a man well educated and well travelled in the world. But the real question is whether he can overcome his brother's hold on power and survive while rescuing Sary.

Lovely raven-haired Cat falls afoul of the jealous ladies in the duke’s party. Falsely accused of stealing, Catriona is banished and becomes the prize to be won at the local brothel auction… But Hugo knows nothing of the auction. What rescue can be hoped?

Book excerpt: The Memoirs of a Few narrates a series of events that happened in the life of a few people with unique perspectives towards life. These narratives uncover the saga of a Brahmin family with a long history of migration. Keerthi, several generations down the line of the migrated group of Brahmins, believes, like his predecessors, that he is just one among the group who follow a particular pattern of living that cannot be related to a religion. Bashful by nature with repressed feelings, he is unaware that the psychological stress caused by the separation from his mother in childhood and his weakness for listening to tales of misery suffered by his forefathers were triggering delusions and transforming him into a different personality. Into his life walks Samanta, a Greek who migrated to the US and has a history of unpleasant memories of her tumultuous teenage years. They become good friends and, later, life partners. Alamelu, his mother, born into a wealthy family, is a strong woman who does not like wealth and comforts and lives a kind of austere life. She is not an atheist but has shunned age-old practices. She believes that problems are mind’s creations and that we alone are responsible for our misery. She is impervious to the spirit behind beliefs and scriptures and thinks that they form a road to escape the reality of life. Narayana, his father, an upright man of few words and strong convictions, believes that spirituality is the only rudder to hold when sinking in the deep waters of misery. He thinks that rituals bring people down to a mere instinctive level and remove the beauty of philosophy. However, the philosophical outlook of Keerthi’s parents receives a blow when a rare form of amnesia leaves Keerthi unable to recognize his parents’ faces. By the time he recovers, his father is no more, and his mother has retreated into seclusion – retreated not out of despair but of a desire to renounce everything she cherished before being stripped of it by fate. Of late, Keerthi is getting tough like his mother…… The Memoirs of a Few engages with the question of faith and rationality from the experiences of a few characters in their life. Read here how the lives of the characters in the memoir unfold …………

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is part of a two-volume set that examines prostitution and sex trafficking on a global scale, with each chapter devoted to a particular country in one of seven geo-cultural areas of the world. The 16 chapters in this volume (Volume II) are devoted to examination of the commercial sex industry (CSI) in countries within Africa, Asia, Middle East, and Oceania, while the 18 chapters comprising Volume I focus exclusively on Europe, Latin America, and North America. This volume also includes a "global" section, which includes chapters that are globally relevant — rather than those devoted to a particular country or geographic location. The content of each Volume, as well as each chapter, reflects great diversity — diversity in focus, writing style, and personal position regarding the commercial sex industry. Diversity extends to the contributors, who are comprised of international scholars, service providers, and policy advocates representing a variety of fields and disciplines, with distinct and varied frames of reference and theoretical underpinnings with regard to the commercial sex industry. In addition to addressing aspects of the CSI across the globe, as impacted by geography and culture, authors have also provided a spectrum of implications of their work — implications ranging from continued scholarship and research, to legislative maneuvers and policy change, to suggestions for collaboration across NGOS, fieldworkers, clinicians, and service providers. Together, the 34 expertly-crafted chapters provide a wealth of knowledge from which to more deeply appreciate and contemplate the global commercial sex industry. By uniting contributors from around the world, this book aims to build a relatively common knowledge base on global prostitution and sex trafficking. Viewed from a unified, global perspective, it is hoped that this common understanding will lead to a grounded theory and integrated view with applicable suggestions for international efforts aimed at intervention.
