My Favourite Books When Paige finds an old mix CD in a local charity shop, she can't help but wonder about the boy who made it and the girl he was thinking of when he chose the songs. The tracks tell the story of a boy looking for his perfect girl, a girl to understand him, a story of being alone, being let down, misunderstood and not knowing where to turn. Following the clues of the music, Paige sets out to find the mysterious boy, going from gig to gig and band to band, hoping to track him down. But will who she finds at the end of the trail, be the boy she's imagined? Another perfect girly read from Queen of Teen nominee Cathy Hopkins!

Download or read book Girls with Swords written by Lisa Bevere and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2014-02-18 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A passionate call for Christian women to effectively "wield the sword" of their God-given feminine strength against any evil that threatens them and those they love. What if you discovered you have been entrusted with an invisible, invincible, and incorruptible weapon? Would you use it? In a day of worldwide trafficking, gendercide, discrimination, and other hostility against women, Lisa Bevere points to a biblical foundation to present a model of feminine strength that will empower women to live confidently. Drawing on the many references to swords throughout Scripture, the author constructs a revealing and compelling female paradigm that will impact every area of a woman's self identity, spiritual awareness, relationships, and life vision and mission. Long known for her passionate and articulate expression of biblical womanhood, Bevere presents fresh imagery--as enticing and strong as polished steel--to prepare women boldly for the challenges they face in today's world. It's not enough to just be wise and strong: Now a woman must know how to wield her sword. Creatively forging the imagery of swords, the Word of God, and the Cross, Girls with Swords will teach you: • How to speak the language of heaven on earth • What it means to intercede • What it means to carry your cross • What it means to be discerning • How to disarm the enemy • Why women are the enemy’s target—and why God needs them to be heroes It’s time to take up your sword and be a hero.
Download or read book Dark Rising written by Sheldon Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Caitlyn O'Herlihy. I have had many names over the centuries, but this one is close to the original. I rather like it. This was to have been a time of quiet...a decade or two of peace before returning to the of being the last of my race in a world that knows I exist, and fears that existence. It was supposed to have been quiet, but someone is using black magic to summon demons. Some...THING has murdered innocent tourists...slain simple people going about their lives...killed my FRIEND! But, with the help of Sledge, a biker ‘club' of humans, orks, elves, and a troll; the assistance of a frightened little girl who lost her family, and perhaps the touch of an angel, I plan to stop it. I plan to kill it. It is what I do. It is what I am good at. I am Caitlyn O'Herlihy, and I am Dark Elf.

Book Synopsis Constructing Black Education at Oberlin College by : Roland M. Baumann
Download or read book Constructing Black Education at Oberlin College written by Roland M. Baumann and published by Ohio University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1835 Oberlin became the first institute of higher education to make a cause of racial egalitarianism when it decided to educate students “irrespective of color.” Yet the visionary college’s implementation of this admissions policy was uneven. In Constructing Black Education at Oberlin College: A Documentary History, Roland M. Baumann presents a comprehensive documentary history of the education of African American students at Oberlin College. Following the Reconstruction era, Oberlin College mirrored the rest of society as it reduced its commitment to black students by treating them as less than equals of their white counterparts. By the middle of the twentieth century, black and white student activists partially reclaimed the Oberlin legacy by refusing to be defined by race. Generations of Oberlin students, plus a minority of faculty and staff, rekindled the college’s commitment to racial equality by 1970. In time, black separatism in its many forms replaced the integrationist ethic on campus as African Americans sought to chart their own destiny and advance curricular change. Oberlin’s is not a story of unbroken progress, but rather of irony, of contradictions and integrity, of myth and reality, and of imperfections. Baumann takes readers directly to the original sources by including thirty complete documents from the Oberlin College Archives. This richly illustrated volume is an important contribution to the college’s 175th anniversary celebration of its distinguished history, for it convincinglydocuments how Oberlin wrestled over the meaning of race and the destiny of black people in American society.
