Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building the American Dream depicts the journey of author, Gary Knapp, from his very beginnings on a rural dairy farm in southern Michigan through his teens, his tour of duty in the army, his broadcast training and then follows him as he begins his career in radio broadcasting and branches into television. Through his remarkable passion, ingenuity and enormous energy, he overcomes whatever hurdles he encounters and turns them into advantages which eventually enable him to build a network of television stations to serve the northern Michigan area. His journey is fueled by his inability to accept defeat, his persistence in finding a way to accomplish his goals by creating innovative financing when the traditional routes failed him, his trust in, and loyalty to reliable advisors and a family who supported him through thick and thin. The reader gets a first hand look at what goes on behind the scenes in radio and television production, sales and management. They accompany him as he moves from one phase of his interesting career to the next. Author Knapp, takes us back to the days of our childhood and the simple good life about which we all like to reminisce. We can smell his moms apple pie baking as the family gathers around the radio set listening to Fibber McGee and Molly. He stimulates our memories of past parades, local celebrations, community events which he covered as a newsman and broadcaster and recreates the home town atmosphere of typical small towns through out our country. This book, with its motivational and informative hints, could be considered a handbook on how to attain ones goals and dreams, or by some, a guideline showing the steps necessary to succeed in business ventures and by others, just a good read. Gary Knapp has brought to life, a story, rich in human interest, history of radio and television, entrepreneurship and events in the town of Cadillac, Michigan, where Gary took broadcasting to a higher level while building his American dream.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Screen-writing is a unique literary form. Screenplays are like musical scores, in that they are intended to be interpreted on the basis of other artists performances rather than serving as finished products for the enjoyment of their readers. They are written using technical jargon and tight, spare prose to describe set directions. Unlike a novella, a script focuses on describing the literal, visual aspects of the story rather than on its characters internal thoughts. In screen-writing, the aim is to evoke those thoughts and emotions through subtext, action, and symbolism. Prominent Hollywood script doctors include Steve Zaillian, William Goldman, Robert Towne, Mort Nathan, Quentin Tarantino etc., while many up-and-coming screenwriters work as ghost writers. This book is a modest catalogue of some of the most prominent screenwriters, listed from A to Z. The good are sometimes bad, and they can be even... Ugly. Many comments herein included were googled in deference to the multiplicity of information available today, yet they reflect exactly - or almost - what I thought. An amazing thing today is how anonymous commentators on the Internet rival and even surpass the poor quality of professional media and specialised literature. It all comes down to watching the truth 24 times per second, to quote Jean-Luc Godard s phrase. Not to mention that such truth may include sex scenes, violence, pedophilia, etc. We know that a literary masterpiece like Henry James Portrait of a Lady became a film of very poor quality as scripted by Laura Jones. We know, conversely, that a mediocre writer like Mickey Spillane inspired at least one film as remarkable as Kiss Me Deadly, thanks to A. I. Bezzerides script. Asa former screenwriter, Mr. Correa must avow that he found the job most gratifying. Writing that looks effortless is often hellish to write and revise. It was something he did have to slog through, but it proved particularly pleasing. Editing, discussing & finishing your work is particularly gratifying. Identifying your flaws and working to mitigate them is also gratifying. It is a general perception that creative careers are more interesting and fun than others. But the privilege of earning money through imagination and creativity is effectively hard-won. Please comment at will. Please disagree at will. Be facetious in your remarks, but please be neither vicious nor mean-spirited.

This survival guide is a compilation of detailed questions, answers, ideas, and stories from my first two years serving as a speech-language pathologist in the skilled nursing facility. Each chapter will take you through a topic that was, in some way, confusing or difficult for me to manage during my CFY. This book touches on the topics of workplace relationships, assessment and treatment, palliative care within and outside of the scope of the speech-language pathologist, and even financial outlooks and career-building strategies. I am no expert; just someone who's been on the road for a little bit, seen the sights, and has a passion for the field. Nothing in this book is a secret, but much of it I didn't know before I started on this journey. If the skilled nursing facility is your first stop on your journey, take a few tools with you. You'll need them to survive!

It is about a journey into the realm of children whose innocence is taken from them far too soon. It is about smiles and laughter and secrets and perhaps a little magic that results in believing. Believing for a moment longer or if we are lucky, another year. Or if we really believe perhaps that magic can last a lifetime. But this story is about so much more. It is about what children gave me as I evolved into being a Santa Claus. It is about how I became a much better person. It is a story about how I gained insight and understanding in the power of believing, even when believing seems impossible.
