The climate is mild, and none of the fogs prevail, so common to the coast. Fruit and vegetables, together with small fruit, are successfully cultivated. FELTON Is a thriving hamlet, 6 miles north of Santa Cruz, has two general stores, a blacksmith and butcher shop, two saloons and a hotel, also a fuse manufacturing establishment. In the environs of the town are three saw mills and two lime kilns. Messrs. Blum & Seelye purpose erecting a lime kiln very soon in this neighborhood. Many people are attracted hither by the fame of tho large trees growing in tho vicinity, the largest of which is said to be twenty feet in diameter. Tho Big Tree House, so called from an enormous oak which stands before tho door, is a capital hostelry and entertains many visitors. From here we continue in a northerly direction for a distance of seven miles, to BOULDER CREEK. Tho road leads us by several sa.w mills, not, at present, working. Ono of these, having a tannery connected, is owned by Mr. Peery, who intends beginning operations, actively, in the Spring. All along ihe entire road, grow enormous pine and redwood trees, measuring from six to twelve feet in diameter. They furnish a grateful shade to tho wayfarer. Tho confluence of Boulder and Bear Creeks with tho San Lorenzo River occurs at this point, forming what is expressively termed the "Turkey Foot."
