Book Synopsis Enriching Business Ethics by : Clarence C. Walton

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over thirty years ago, Alfred North Whitehead wrote: "If America is to be civilized, it has to be done (at least for the present) by the business class who are in possession of the power and the economic resources . . . . If the American universities were up to their job, they would be taking business in hand and teaching it ethics and professional standards. " * To the intellectual elites of his time, there was something of a minor in Whitehead's view. Few of them saw business as a civilizing force heresy and even fewer, feeling that business was not to be tamed, relished the role of the lion tamers. Not many today doubt Whitehead's wisdom. Organiza tions of wealth and power have accepted their corporate social responsibili ties, and universities have launched major efforts to provide ethical instruc tion for business personnel. So far as the scholars are concerned, they quickly came to realize the difficulty of an undertaking that seeks to redefine and apply moral criteria to a very complex corporate world. Philosophers, in particular, have learned (or perhaps have relearned) how their speculations on ethics must take into account the "living ethic" expressed in the American culture and here anthropologists, sociologists, and theologians were needed to provide an expertise that the moral manuals did not.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The most insightful book on branding of the last 20 years' Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Now, more than ever, your brand is either loved - or it's noise. In a world defined by digital products and immediate gratification, how can your brand stand out? When consumers can easily have anything, how can your brand be the one thing they can't live without? To rise to this challenge, brands must shape not just what consumers buy, but how they act, feel and connect. This requires a new perspective, one that goes beyond business and into the fundamentals of human behaviour. Branding that Means Business combines the latest business thinking with psychology, sociology, and anthropology to show that a brand can't serve a business unless it connects with people. Equipped with these human-based perspectives, you'll have the tools to create, enhance and distinguish your brand in new and impactful ways - and make it a must-have in the minds and lives of your consumers.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Value Chain Management by : François Maon
Download or read book Sustainable Value Chain Management written by François Maon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way organizations manage their value chain has changed dramatically over the past decade. Today, organizations take account of economic issues, but they also adopt a broader perspective of their purpose including social and environmental issues. Yet despite its global spread, sustainable value chain management remains an uncertain and poorly defined ambition, with few absolutes. The social and environmental issues that organizations should address easily can be interpreted as including virtually everything. Current literature on the topic seeks to understand the effects and management of initiatives dealing with diversity, human rights, safety, philanthropy, community, and environment. However, the penetration of social and environmental considerations into value chain management is described as ’desire lacking reality’ thereby making the idea a patchy success. The objective of this research anthology is to investigate different angles of sustainable value chain management. The book’s 27 chapters fill holes and explore new fields; the chapters are organised in five sections: Sustainable value chains - context, drivers, and barriers; Sustainable value chains - managing activities; Sustainable value chains - managing networks and collaboration; Sustainable value chains - integrative perspectives; and Sustainable value chains - specific sectorial and industry perspectives.

Book Synopsis Environmental Management Systems by : Stephen Tinsley
Download or read book Environmental Management Systems written by Stephen Tinsley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) has become a crucial consideration for large organizations. This book offers insight to practitioners and professional students as to why they have been developed, how they are implemented and the barriers that can impact on their effectiveness. A practical, experience-based text written by leading consultants and researchers, the book explores the drivers that have led to the development of environmental strategies and the benefits of formulating a complete EMS. The book examines the way in which EMSs are structured to ensure that a company achieves continuous improvement in environmental performance. Alongside practical advice for businesses that wish to achieve accreditation, the book addresses key issues to be aware of to ensure optimum benefits, different strategies that companies may adopt to establish an EMS and the challenges that arise when trying to integrate an EMS into the business strategy. Also included is a review of the ways in which academics try to categorize and predict the effectiveness of these different approaches to EMS using modelling tools. Finally, case studies are presented to demonstrate examples of companies that have implemented their own EMS, the different approaches that they have taken and the resulting issues that have emerged. This is essential reading for all environmental practitioners as well as students of environmental management and business.

Book Synopsis Innovative Business Practices by : Alkis Thrassou
Download or read book Innovative Business Practices written by Alkis Thrassou and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second decade of the millennium finds the world changing at a once unimaginable pace. Businesses, tangled in the interwoven threads of galloping globalization, technological advances, cultural diversity, economic recession and deep-rooted human social evolution, struggle to keep up with incessant changes; consequently and inexorably experiencing severe difficulties and disorientation. Executives, much bewildered, habitually turn to conventional, time-honoured strategies and practices, which increasingly fail to offer the much-sought answers and means to survival, competitiveness and growth. We are currently experiencing a business era of turbulence and dynamic change – an era that inherently rejects conventionality and orthodox business theory to reward businesses embracing agility, reflex-style adaptability, innovation and creativity. This turbulence is, however, not a parenthesis or even a pattern, but the new reality in which each business must reinvent and redefine itself. This is a new reality of stakeholders that shift focus from the external to the internal, from the tangible to the intangible, and from fact to perception. This book presents research and paradigms that transcend classical theory in order to examine how business practice is positively affected by these conditions. Across a multitude of sectors and organisational types, scholars of different business specialisations set the theoretical foundations of contemporary thinking and present their practical implementations.

Book Synopsis Ethics and Empowerment by : P. Davies
Download or read book Ethics and Empowerment written by P. Davies and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethics and Empowerment is a major contribution to the ongoing debate about the role of business in society. People expect more meaning and empowerment at work at a time when competitive pressures are seducing business into taking ethical short-cuts. How is this to be reconciled? Through a thorough examination of the issues of power, control and autonomy addressing such questions as empowerment being a matter of justice, through case-study based examinations of the organisational experiences of empowerment programmes and through looking at the ethics and empowerment debate from the wider perspective of business and social responsibility, this book seeks to make ethics more relevant and accessible to today's business world.
