Book Synopsis Safety and Security Issues in Technical Infrastructures by : Rehak, David
Download or read book Safety and Security Issues in Technical Infrastructures written by Rehak, David and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern age of urbanization, the mass population is becoming progressively reliant on technical infrastructures. These industrial buildings provide integral services to the general public including the delivery of energy, information and communication technologies, and maintenance of transport networks. The safety and security of these structures is crucial as new threats are continually emerging. Safety and Security Issues in Technical Infrastructures is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the modernization of occupational security and safety practices within information technology-driven buildings. While highlighting topics such as explosion process safety, nanotechnology, and infrastructural risk analysis, this publication explores current risks and uncertainties and the raising of comprehensive awareness for experts in this field. This book is ideally designed for security managers, safety personnel, civil engineers, architects, researchers, construction professionals, strategists, educators, material scientists, property owners, and students.

This book was released on 2001-10-26 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A serious incident involving dangerous goods in a tunnel can be extremely costly in terms of loss of human lives, environmental degradation, tunnel damage and transport disruption. On the other hand, needlessly banning dangerous goods from tunnels may create unjustified economic costs. Moreover, such a ban might force operators to use more dangerous routes, such as densely populated areas, and thus increase the overall risk. This report proposes regulations and procedures to increase the safety and efficiency of transporting dangerous goods through road tunnels. It introduces two models, developed as part of the study: the first quantifies the risks involved in transporting dangerous goods through tunnels and by road; the second, a decision-support model, assists in the determination of the restrictions which need to be applied to the transport of dangerous goods through tunnels. Finally, measures to reduce both the risks and the consequences of incidents in tunnels are examined in detail.

Download or read book Road Tunnels written by Fabio Borghetti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates a new quantitative risk analysis model for road tunnels that is capable of evaluating the role of infrastructure measures, equipment and management procedures as prescribed by EU Directive 2004/54/EC. The risk assessment draws on the typical F-N curves of societal risk, evaluated with the help of event tree analysis, vehicle queue formation dynamics, and users’ egress and tenability models. In addition, the model considers the reliability of the safety measures. The work provides essential guidance on the following aspects: how a quantitative model can be implemented to evaluate risk in road tunnels; how to build an event tree for the accident scenarios considered; how to simulate the vehicle queue formation; how to simulate the evolution of accident scenarios; and how to simulate the users’ egress. Given its scope and depth of coverage, the book will be of interest to all engineers whose work involves fire protection and safety in tunnels, all persons engaged in safety and transport engineering or risk analysis for road tunnels, as well as public and private bodies involved in the application of Directive 2004/54/EC.
