Download or read book Realigners written by Timothy Shenk and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of The Wall Street Journal’s best political books of 2022 An eye-opening new history of American political conflict, from Alexander Hamilton to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. These days it seems that nobody is satisfied with American democracy. Critics across the ideological spectrum warn that the country is heading toward catastrophe but also complain that nothing seems to change. At the same time, many have begun to wonder if the gulf between elites and ordinary people has turned democracy itself into a myth. The urges to defend the country’s foundations and to dismantle them coexist—often within the same people. How did we get here? Why does it feel like the country is both grinding to a halt and falling to pieces? In Realigners, the historian Timothy Shenk offers an eye-opening new biography of the American political tradition. In a history that runs from the drafting of the Constitution to the storming of the Capitol, Shenk offers sharp pen portraits of signal characters from James Madison and Charles Sumner to Phyllis Schlafly and Barack Obama. The result is an entertaining and provocative reassessment of the people who built the electoral coalitions that defined American democracy—and a guide for a time when figures ranging from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to MAGA-minded nationalists seek to turn radical dreams into political realities. In an era when it seems democracy is caught in perpetual crisis, Realigners looks at earlier moments in which popular majorities transformed American life. We’ve had those moments before. And if there’s an escape from the doom loop that American politics has become, it’s because we might have one again.

Download or read book Sorry I'm Not Sorry written by Nancy N. Rue and published by Tommy Nelson. This book was released on 2015-04-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bullies aren’t born mean—through the vicious cycle of mean, bullies are made. According to the Ambassadors 4 Kids Club, one out of every four students is bullied—and 85% of these situations never receive intervention. Parents, students, and teachers have amped up solving the bullying problem for a networked generation of kids. Written by bestselling author Nancy Rue, each book in the Mean Girl Makeover trilogy focuses on a different character’s point of view: the bully, the victim, and the bystander. The books show solid biblical solutions to the bullying problem set in a story for tween girls. Sorry I’m Not Sorry tells the story of Kylie Steppe, former queen bee of Gold Country Middle School. After bullying a fellow GCMS student, Kylie has been expelled—and she has to attend mandatory counseling. Without her posse to aid her and other peers to torment, Kylie focuses on the person who stole her GVMS popularity crown: Tori Taylor. As Kylie plots revenge on Tori, she attends therapy sessions, where she reveals a few details that might explain why she finds power in preying on her middle school peers. After a rough year with bullying backfire, will Kylie decide to become more empathetic with her peers? It's hard for tweens to imagine why a bully acts the way she does. Sorry I’m Not Sorry shows girls that they hold the power to stop bullying through mutual understanding and acts of love.

Book Synopsis The Attitude, Respect, Training and Safety Aspects of Trucking by : C. Mississippi Morgan
Download or read book The Attitude, Respect, Training and Safety Aspects of Trucking written by C. Mississippi Morgan and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book, The Attitude, Respect, Training, and Safety Aspects of Trucking, is directly in line with the content of the book. As a professional driver, you will need all of these aspects to complete your portfolio. If you take just one of these aspects out of the equation, you are opening the door for potential hazards throughout your career. Example, you can be the most skilled driver in the world and yet when another driver intentionally or unintentionally cuts you off and you allow this to have a negative effect on your attitude, then there goes safety out the window. When you are considering a company as a new employer, it is critical that you discuss with your spouse and your children the requirements of the company. How often will you be gone? One week? Three weeks? How much time will you have with your family between trips? A number of drivers make the mistake of not discussing these priorities with their family. It might very well be that a local driving job would be best for you and your family as opposed to a position as an over-the-road driver. You would probably be surprised as to what your family would say. One thing is certain. If you don't discuss this with your family, you will invariably have marital and children problems. Remember this. Trucking is full of variables. Reefer, dry box, flatbed, tanker, or any other type of trucking you choose, just keep in mind that while it's still trucking, each one of these is as different as night and day. And by all means, I want you to realize that trucking is not for everybody. It takes a special breed of persons to be a true professional driver. Is that you?

Book Synopsis Arrested Development by : Andrew Calcutt
Download or read book Arrested Development written by Andrew Calcutt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1990s, both politics and pop culture have been dominated by the twin motifs of the victim and the child. Calcutt traces the history of these motifs back to their origins in the counterculture of the 1950s and 1960s, and concludes that the counterculture, far from being liberating, has provided a ready-made verbal and visual language for today's victim culture and the authoritarian politics arising from it. This title discusses the erosion of adulthood as a pop cultural phenomenon that requires demystification and as a social problem which must be overcome.
