Book Synopsis Faith and Action by : Roger Antonio Fortin
Download or read book Faith and Action written by Roger Antonio Fortin and published by Ohio State University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Based on extensive primary archival materials, Faith and Action is a comprehensive history of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati over the past 175 years. Fortin paints a picture of the Catholic Church's involvement in the city's development and contextualizes the changing values and programs of the Church in the region. He characterizes the institution's history as one of both faith and action. From the time of its founding to the present, the way Catholics in the archdiocese of Cincinnati have viewed their relationship with the rest of society has changed with each major change in society. In the beginning, while espousing separation of church and state and religious liberty, they wanted the Church to adapt to the new American situation. In the mid-nineteenth century Cincinnati Catholics dealt with a dominant Protestant culture and, at times, a hostile environment, whereas a century later it had become much more a part of the American mainstream. Throughout most of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries most Catholics saw themselves as outsiders. During the past fifty years, however, Cincinnati Catholics, like most of their counterparts in the United States, have felt more confident and viewed themselves as very much a part of American society"--Publisher's description
Book Synopsis The Family of August Harder by : Henry L. Harder
Download or read book The Family of August Harder written by Henry L. Harder and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: August Harder is the primogenitor of the Harder family in Arkansas. He came as a child of five to the Sugarloaf valley in southern Sebastian County with his uncle and aunts. Forced by the depredations of marauders in the Civil War to move into Fort Smith, he married, had a family, and remained there the rest of his life. Around 1899 August began a family history and continued it until the last entry three months before his death in 1920. It is his history that forms the basis of this present work. The author places August and Louise and their family into the milieu of nineteenth century western Arkansas. He provides a synopsis of August's ancestors and shows how his family and descendants have flourished from pioneer days to present times.
Book Synopsis Faith, Families & Friends: 150 Years of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Montegut Louisiana by : Laura A. Browning
Download or read book Faith, Families & Friends: 150 Years of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Montegut Louisiana written by Laura A. Browning and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-10-31 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of the book is the history of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Parish and Sacred Heart Church in Montegut, Louisiana. The book follows the church-parish boundaries, including the term of each priest, and with the creation of each new parish out of Sacred Heart, St. Ann (1908), St. Joseph (1948), and St. Charles Borromeo (1971), the focus continues with the Priests of Sacred Heart. However, the book could not reflect Sacred Heart without writing about Montegut, Bourg, Little Caillou, and Pointe aux Chenes. The church has given us important roots, binding us as a church and community family, sticking us to this small place, Montegut. Sacred Heart Parish predates Sacred Heart Church by over thirty years. Pere Menard blessed the first dedicated chapel built on Dugas property at St. John the Baptist in le Terrebonne in November 1859. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church marks its founding as the creation of the parish by the Diocese of New Orleans in November 9, 1864.

Book excerpt: The 150-Year History of St. Henry's Catholic Church, Watertown,Wisconsin. 1853-2003. The only previous history of St. Henry’s Catholic Church of Watertown was written in German in 1903, at the time of the 50th anniversary of the congregation. One hundred years later, a new and comprehensive history of the congregation has been written to coincide with the 150th anniversary of St. Henry’s. The product of over two years of research, this updated history documents and adds perspective to the significant achievement of the one and one-half centuries of the church itself and also of the faith and devotion of its members over the years. Making lighthearted use of names of books of the Bible to organize the content of this history, the author covers all aspects of the history of St. Henry’s: the church, school, parish center, rectory, and cemetery; the societies and organizations; the varied religious services; the few absolute commands of Christ and the many rules of the Church; the devotions that nurtured one’s religious life and also the events that tested one’s faith. Particular emphasis is placed on the early decades of the 150 year history.
