This book was released on 2015-09-23 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S. 33, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act, would expedite the permitting process for LNG exports to countries which do not have free trade agreements with the United States. Study after study have shown that LNG exports will create good paying jobs all across America, good paying jobs in states like Oregon, West Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. LNG exports will also reduce our nation's trade deficit which currently stands at $39 billion. S. 33 would require the Secretary of Energy to make a final decision on an export application within 45 days after FERC completes the environmental review process. In addition, the bill would provide for expedited judicial review of legal challenges to LNG export projects. Finally the bill requires exporters to publicly disclose the countries to which LNG is being delivered. S. 33 ensures that the Secretary will make a timely decision on LNG export applications and that legal challenges to LNG export projects will be resolved expeditiously, giving investors greater confidence that LNG export projects will be permitted and built.

Book excerpt: This handbook illustrates concepts, methods and tools for "primary environmental care", an approach that seeks to empower communities to meet basic needs while protecting the environment. In particular, it focuses on how population size, structure, growth (or decline) and movements relate to the quality of the environment and the quality of life. Emphasis is placed on a community-led process of participatory action research in which local knowledge and skills are fully utilized. A main purpose is to promote the effective, integrated management of environment and population dynamics for the benefit of local people. As a collection of tools for action, it is designed for professionals in conservation and natural resource management, development, population and public health who wish to promote and assist participatory action research in rural communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of 'resilience' is gaining currency in European and transatlantic security policy discussions. The EU and NATO are each building the capacity of their member states to anticipate, preempt and resolve disruptive challenges to vital societal functions. The EU and NATO are also exploring ways to work more effectively together in this area. But is resilience enough to deal with disruptive threats in a deeply interconnected world? In this new study, authors and experts argue that while state-by-state approaches to resilience are important, they are likely to be insufficient in a world where few critical infrastructures are limited to national borders, and where robust resilience efforts by one country may mean little if its neighbor's systems are weak. They argue not only that resilience must be shared, it must be projected forward, and that traditional notions of territorial security must be supplemented with actions to address flow security - protecting critical links that bind societies to one another.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an interconnected and globalized world, the voices of the local communities struggle to make themselves heard on the international stage. But many issues that arise within international relations have consequences for ordinary lives and are therefore closely connected. Climate change, warfare and migration are all examples of this. They are often discussed in abstract terms with relation to international diplomacy, but threaten the actual livelihoods of small communities and ordinary people. This was the setting of the conference ‘Global Crisis, Local Voices’, held in May 2018. This journal is a compilation of the papers presented at that conference, which was the second ‘DEN International Student Conference’. The conference and this publication is one of the many projects that the Democratic Education Network (DEN) is responsible for since its launch in 2016. This book is a collection of diverse works, all written by student authors from a range of different universities. From Democracy and Ideology, to Climate Change and China, it covers numerous concepts, ideas and geographical regions, that are often found in the studies of Politics and International Relations. This book is the result of passion and hard work from all students involved in its production and it is a project that we in DEN are incredibly proud of and hope to continue in the future. “I encourage you to read these publications to catalyse views in you that stimulate great debate that helps you become part of the compassionate, progressive and responsible movement of young people that will help overcome injustices in the world and make the world a better place.” Dr Peter Bonfield OBE FREng Vice-Chancellor and President University of Westminster
