Book Synopsis Russian Politics and Response to Globalization by : Lada V. Kochtcheeva
Download or read book Russian Politics and Response to Globalization written by Lada V. Kochtcheeva and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-17 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the nature of Russia’s involvement with globalization. To date, Russia has mainly followed a course of selective openness governed by an increasingly strong state pursuing self-determination and its own vision of strategic objectives and forms of cooperation, rather than the projected reproduction of global convergence. It is also a country that is believed to be finding a new place and position for itself in the evolving global order, where European and American reflections shape the treatment of contemporary questions concerning Russia’s status in the world. The book highlights the problems and conflicts associated with political developments, democratization, economic reforms, and innovation, as well as societal perceptions and national identity formation. The world is shifting, with Russia developing its own vision of global politics and cultivating a pragmatic strategy based on national interest, one that supports globalization where necessary and opposes it where conflicts of interest and values are inevitable.

Book Synopsis Russia and the Fight Against Globalisation by : Kerry Bolton
Download or read book Russia and the Fight Against Globalisation written by Kerry Bolton and published by Black House Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Western world is in eclipse, after a long epoch of decay. Yet the West is ever more optimistic. Under U.S. leadership, a diseased corpse, with an outward façade covering the rotting pestilence, and falsely labelled 'Western way of life', looms over the world in the name of 'democracy' and 'human rights', bombing into submission where the blandishments of loans, cultural perversity, and techno-junk don't succeed in subverting reticent nations. We are assured that this is 'the American century', that 'America is exceptional', and since its founding has had a world mission to create in its own image - godlike - a 'new order of the ages' - the motto on the U.S. Great Seal; now called 'the new world order' and 'globalisation'. This universal utopia which is marketed as the culmination of all human striving, is called by its spokesmen such as Francis Fukuyama, 'the end of history', beyond which there is nothing more to achieve. Into this scenario steps Russia, the perennial outlaw, with her own world-mission, one of redeeming mankind; an outlook which she has maintained - 'eternal Russia' - whether under Czarism, 'Bolshevism', or 'democracy'. Because Russia is the primary bulwark - the Katechon - against this nightmare scenario of global conformity, she is targeted for destruction on multiple levels. 'Russia and the Fight Against Globalisation' examines numerous aspects of Russia's role as the bulwark against the 'new world order', and the possibilities of its redeeming character in helping to save Europe from walking along the path towards destruction.

Book Synopsis Russia's Identity in International Relations by : Ray Taras
Download or read book Russia's Identity in International Relations written by Ray Taras and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together leading scholars from Russia and outside experts on Russia, this book looks at the difference between the image Russia has of itself and the way it is viewed in the West. It discusses the historical, cultural and political foundations that these images are built upon, and goes on to analyse how contested these images are, and their impact on Russian identity. The book questions whether differing images explain fractiousness in Western-Russian relations in the new century, or whether distinct 'imaginary solitudes' offer a better platform from which to negotiate differences. Providing an innovative comparative study of contemporary images of the country and their impact, the book is a significant contribution to studies of globalisation and international relations.
Book Synopsis Russia's Turn to the East by : Helge Blakkisrud
Download or read book Russia's Turn to the East written by Helge Blakkisrud and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY license. This book explores if and how Russian policies towards the Far East region of the country – and East Asia more broadly – have changed since the onset of the Ukraine crisis and Russia’s annexation of Crimea. Following the 2014 annexation and the subsequent enactment of a sanctions regime against the country, the Kremlin has emphasized the eastern vector in its external relations. But to what extent has Russia’s 'pivot to the East' intensified or changed in nature – domestically and internationally – since the onset of the current crisis in relations with the West? Rather than taking the declared 'pivot' as a fact and exploring the consequences of it, the contributors to this volume explore whether a pivot has indeed happened or if what we see today is the continuation of longer-duration trends, concerns and ambitions.
Book Synopsis Globalisation and Advertising in Emerging Economies by : Lynne Ciochetto
Download or read book Globalisation and Advertising in Emerging Economies written by Lynne Ciochetto and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brazil, Russia, India and China are four of the largest and most dynamic contemporary emerging economies in the world. Strong economic growth in each of these economies has been accompanied by the expansion of the advertising and consumer goods sectors. Using a series of country studies, this book explores the dynamics of global capitalism from the perspective of global advertising. The book highlights the on-going expansion of advertising and consumerism against the wider socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. It provides fresh insights about contemporary global priorities, and argues that advertising plays a key role linking culture and the economy. By presenting individual case studies of advertising campaigns, it offers examples of the globalisation of specific brands. Environmental implications of the expansion of advertising and its role in stimulating consumerism are explored in the context of the four emerging economies. The book compares and contrasts the individual country profiles, and makes an assessment of the validity of the argument regarding their projected importance and the likelihood of their future dominance of the global economy.
Book Synopsis Grave New World by : Stephen D. King
Download or read book Grave New World written by Stephen D. King and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A controversial look at the end of globalization and what it means for prosperity, peace, and the global economic order Globalization, long considered the best route to economic prosperity, is not inevitable. An approach built on the principles of free trade and, since the 1980s, open capital markets, is beginning to fracture. With disappointing growth rates across the Western world, nations are no longer willing to sacrifice national interests for global growth; nor are their leaders able—or willing—to sell the idea of pursuing a global agenda of prosperity to their citizens. Combining historical analysis with current affairs, economist Stephen D. King provides a provocative and engaging account of why globalization is being rejected, what a world ruled by rival states with conflicting aims might look like, and how the pursuit of nationalist agendas could result in a race to the bottom. King argues that a rejection of globalization and a return to “autarky” will risk economic and political conflict, and he uses lessons from history to gauge how best to avoid the worst possible outcomes.
