The book covers the sightings of Netaji post air crash claimed by various individuals such as the Wagg story, as Liu Po Cheng, as the Head of the Asian Liberation Army, as Paris man, Tashkent man, Dhaka man, and how hollow their claims were. Special chapters are there on the Gumnami baba story and the desperate attempt to rope in the names of Atul Sen, Samar Guha, Pabitra Mohan Roy, Dilip Roy, Justice Mukherjee; to prove their points. The book highlights the inherent contradictions and holes in their tales. The compilation includes copies of original letters, investigative reports and documents from declassified files. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is at a crossroads. Despite a defense budget that dwarfs that of any of the nation's rivals, the marginal return on this investment has decreased dramatically since the end of World War II. Why? Why have America's rivals, despite inferior resources, increasingly set the terms of international competition? How might America's leaders reconsider the application of power to ensure a favorable place on an increasingly crowded global stage? By tracing the geographic and historical development of four global actors--Russia, Iran, China, and the United States--Phillip T. Lohaus illuminates four equally distinct approaches to competition outside of warfare. He argues that while America's actions may have birthed information as a currency of power, the nation's failure to fully grasp the implications of this transition has created critical opportunities for its rivals to increase their power at the expense of the United States. The American way of competition, rooted in a scientific understanding of warfare, may impede effectiveness in the amorphous and unscientific landscape of twenty-first-century competition. From Rome to Britain, complacency has contributed to the downfall of many empires. Yet the slow bleed of American power may still be stanched by an approach to competition that emphasizes subtlety, diffusion, and ubiquity. America has developed and used these tools in the past--its very survival may hinge on returning to them. Power and Complacency defines the differing perspectives of America's international conflicts and offers possible solutions for reformulating its superpower strengths.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fundamental problem in studying early modern Russian history is determining Russia’s historical development in relationship to the rest of the world. The focus throughout this book is on the continuity of Russian policies during the early modern period (1450–1800) and that those policies coincided with those of other successful contemporary Eurasian polities. The continuities occurred in the midst of constant change, but neither one nor the other, continuities or changes alone, can account for Russia’s success. Instead, Russian rulers from Ivan III to Catherine II with their hub advisors managed to sustain a balance between the two. During the early modern period, these Russian rulers invited into the country foreign experts to facilitate the transfer of technology and know-how, mostly from Europe but also from Asia. In this respect, they were willing to look abroad for solutions to domestic problems. Russia looked westward for military weaponry and techniques at the same time it was expanding eastward into the Eurasian heartland. The ruling elite and by extension the entire ruling class worked in cooperation with the ruler to implement policies. The Church played an active role in supporting the government and in seeking to eliminate opposition to the government.

Book excerpt: This edited volume fills a void in the literature concerning the purpose, practice, and pedagogy associated with performing rhetorical criticism. Literature regarding these issues—predominantly purpose—exists primarily as scattered journal articles and as sections within chapters of textbooks on rhetorical criticism. This book brings together 15 established rhetorical critics, each of whom offers well thought out and argued opinion pieces that stress the more personal nature of criticism. The purpose of this book is to serve as a disciplinary resource, and as a teaching and learning aid. Accessibility across areas of expertise and experience is stressed in this book. Critics range from junior faculty to emeritus, and represent a broad spectrum of views on criticism. In this sense the book offers a snapshot of the views of a wide swath of successfully practicing, contemporary rhetorical critics.

Book excerpt: Investigating the conceptualisation of structure and form within literature, the Russian Formalists affected both the creation of art during the 1920s and 1930s and the development of literary theory as a scientific discipline. Crucial to the understanding of this theoretical movement, this collection of essays by and about the Russian Formalists features work by: - Boris M. Eichenbaum ("The Theory of the Formal Method") - Viktor Shklvosky ("The Mystery Novel: Dickens's Little Dorrit") - Roman Jakobson ("On Realism in Art") - Mikhail Bakhtin ("Discourse Typology in Prose") - Osip M. Brik ("Contributions to the Study of Verse Language") A new introduction by Gerald L. Bruns provides a context for understanding why these works remain as important and influential now as when they were first written.
