Book Synopsis Exceedingly Abundantly by : Jacqueline Mingo
Download or read book Exceedingly Abundantly written by Jacqueline Mingo and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-09 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exceedingly Abundantly was written specifically for Christians who desire to break free from the curse of debt. Having credit is not necessarily a bad thing; credit is often required to operate within this world's financial system. It is the misuse and abuse of credit that creates the bondage of debt in Christians' and non-Christians' lives. Exceedingly Abundantly is a testimony that uses biblical principles and practical examples to help guide Christians to their debt freedom. Many Christians are saddled with an exorbitant amount of debt-robbing God of the tithe and spending their way through situations that only God can fix. After coming to heavily rely on numerous credit cards with high balances, author Jacqueline Mingo was initially ashamed and extremely uncomfortable with her debt. But through her faith, Jacqueline realized that she didn't have to live under such bondage. Through her experience, you too can have the power of freedom from debt and financial independence!

Book Synopsis A Free Nation Deep in Debt by : James MacDonald
Download or read book A Free Nation Deep in Debt written by James MacDonald and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2006-05-22 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the greater part of recorded history the most successful and powerful states were autocracies; yet now the world is increasingly dominated by democracies. In A Free Nation Deep in Debt, James Macdonald provides a novel answer for how and why this political transformation occurred. The pressures of war finance led ancient states to store up treasure; and treasure accumulation invariably favored autocratic states. But when the art of public borrowing was developed by the city-states of medieval Italy as a democratic alternative to the treasure chest, the balance of power tipped. From that point on, the pressures of war favored states with the greatest public creditworthiness; and the most creditworthy states were invariably those in which the people who provided the money also controlled the government. Democracy had found a secret weapon and the era of the citizen creditor was born. Macdonald unfolds this tale in a sweeping history that starts in biblical times, passes via medieval Italy to the wars and revolutions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and ends with the great bond drives that financed the two world wars.
Book Synopsis Johannes Cocceius and the Exegetical Roots of Federal Theology by : Brian J. Lee
Download or read book Johannes Cocceius and the Exegetical Roots of Federal Theology written by Brian J. Lee and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2009-08-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Debt's Dominion by : David A. Skeel Jr.
Download or read book Debt's Dominion written by David A. Skeel Jr. and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bankruptcy in America, in stark contrast to its status in most other countries, typically signifies not a debtor's last gasp but an opportunity to catch one's breath and recoup. Why has the nation's legal system evolved to allow both corporate and individual debtors greater control over their fate than imaginable elsewhere? Masterfully probing the political dynamics behind this question, David Skeel here provides the first complete account of the remarkable journey American bankruptcy law has taken from its beginnings in 1800, when Congress lifted the country's first bankruptcy code right out of English law, to the present day. Skeel shows that the confluence of three forces that emerged over many years--an organized creditor lobby, pro-debtor ideological currents, and an increasingly powerful bankruptcy bar--explains the distinctive contours of American bankruptcy law. Their interplay, he argues in clear, inviting prose, has seen efforts to legislate bankruptcy become a compelling battle royale between bankers and lawyers--one in which the bankers recently seem to have gained the upper hand. Skeel demonstrates, for example, that a fiercely divided bankruptcy commission and the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress have yielded the recent, ideologically charged battles over consumer bankruptcy. The uniqueness of American bankruptcy has often been noted, but it has never been explained. As different as twenty-first century America is from the horse-and-buggy era origins of our bankruptcy laws, Skeel shows that the same political factors continue to shape our unique response to financial distress.

Book Synopsis Roots of the Republic by : Stephen L. Schechter
Download or read book Roots of the Republic written by Stephen L. Schechter and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 1991-11-01 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roots of the Republic shows how the Constitution was a product, not simply of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, but of a legal and philosophical tradition almost two centuries old. The editors have selected eighteen key documents in the development of that tradition and reproduced them with essays that explain what they mean, why they were written, and why they are important today. Each key document is accompanied by an interpretive essay written by a contemporary scholar. These essays focus on the importance of each frame of government and include commentaries on why they are meaningful today. Intended to help readers learn how to read and understand these documents, the book is also a handy reference and a strong introduction to the development of political thought and the debates surrounding the formation of the state governments and the federal union.
Book Synopsis Galvin - Economic Inequality and Energy Consumption in Developed Countries by : Ray Galvin
Download or read book Galvin - Economic Inequality and Energy Consumption in Developed Countries written by Ray Galvin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inequality and Energy: How Extremes of Wealth and Poverty in High Income Countries Affect CO2 Emissions and Access to Energy challenges energy consumption researchers in developed countries to reorient their research frameworks to include the effects of economic inequality within the scope of their investigations, and calls for a new set of paradigms for energy consumption research. The book explores concrete examples of energy deprivation due to inequality, and provides conceptual tools to explore this in relation to other issues regarding energy consumption. It thereby urges that energy consumption approaches be updated for a world of increasing inequality. Extreme economic inequality has increased within developed countries over the past three decades. The effects of inequality are now seen increasingly in health, housing affordability, crime and social cohesion. There are signs it may even threaten democracy. Researchers are also exploring its effects on energy consumption. One of their key findings is that less privileged groups have lost consistent access to basic energy services like warm homes and affordable transport, leading to huge disparities of climate damaging emissions between rich and poor. - Provides overwhelming evidence of the persistent and increasing income inequality and wealth inequality in developed countries over the past three decades - Showcases recent empirical work that explores correlates of this inequality with energy consumption behavior and some of the key problems of access to adequate energy services - Shows the connections between these findings and the existing ways of researching energy consumption behavior and policy

Download or read book Debtors' Prison written by Robert Kuttner and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2015-06-09 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the financial crisis of 2008, the conversation about economic recovery has centered on the question of debt: whether we have too much of it, whose debt to forgive, and how to cut the deficit. But what if we’ve been asking the wrong questions all along? In Debtors’ Prison, leading economic thinker Robert Kuttner makes the most powerful argument to date that with austerity as a solution all we’re doing is jailing ourselves. Just as debtors’ prisons once prevented individuals from resuming a productive life, austerity measures shackle, rather than restore, economic growth. This is the simple truth belied by the sound bites of presidential elections and fiscal-cliff debates, and the perverse policies of the European Union. Blending current affairs with economics and history, from Robinson Crusoe author Daniel Defoe’s campaign for debt forgiveness in the seventeenth century to the two world wars and Bretton Woods, Kuttner uncovers the double standards in the politics of debt. Lucid, authoritative, provocative—a book that corrects the economic conversation and encourages a search for new solutions.
