This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ancient Cambridgeshire; Or an Attempt to Trace Roman and Other Ancient Roads That Passed Through the Country of Cambridge: With a Record of the Places Where Roman Coins and Other Remains Have Been Found It is not pretended that the subject treated of in this Essay is exhausted, but only that all the facts relating to it have been collected and arranged, as far as they are known to me. I have not knowingly neglected any source of information which is open to me. As was remarked in the preface to the first edition, this treatise has gradually attained its present size from a very small original. It consisted at first of a short account of the Roman roads which crossed each other at Camboritum (Cambridge); and did not describe them, except through a very few miles on each side of that place. As such it was communicated to the Cambridge Antiquarian Society on March 4, 1850. But circumstances caused delay in its publication, and it was gradually extended until it included the whole of the known Roman remains in the county. Here the major Roman road would have taken on additional importance where it skirted the fen edge. The book reports on a number of excavations along this section.
