Book Synopsis Positive Definiteness of Functions with Applications to Operator Norm Inequalities by : Hideki Kosaki
Download or read book Positive Definiteness of Functions with Applications to Operator Norm Inequalities written by Hideki Kosaki and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Positive definiteness is determined for a wide class of functions relevant in the study of operator means and their norm comparisons. Then, this information is used to obtain an abundance of new sharp (unitarily) norm inequalities comparing various operator means and sometimes other related operators.
Book Synopsis Geometry and Analysis on Manifolds by : Takushiro Ochiai
Download or read book Geometry and Analysis on Manifolds written by Takushiro Ochiai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is dedicated to the memory of Shoshichi Kobayashi, and gathers contributions from distinguished researchers working on topics close to his research areas. The book is organized into three parts, with the first part presenting an overview of Professor Shoshichi Kobayashi’s career. This is followed by two expository course lectures (the second part) on recent topics in extremal Kähler metrics and value distribution theory, which will be helpful for graduate students in mathematics interested in new topics in complex geometry and complex analysis. Lastly, the third part of the volume collects authoritative research papers on differential geometry and complex analysis. Professor Shoshichi Kobayashi was a recognized international leader in the areas of differential and complex geometry. He contributed crucial ideas that are still considered fundamental in these fields. The book will be of interest to researchers in the fields of differential geometry, complex geometry, and several complex variables geometry, as well as to graduate students in mathematics.
Book Synopsis L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables by : Takeo Ohsawa
Download or read book L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables written by Takeo Ohsawa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-28 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this monograph is to present the current status of a rapidly developing part of several complex variables, motivated by the applicability of effective results to algebraic geometry and differential geometry. Highlighted are the new precise results on the L2 extension of holomorphic functions. In Chapter 1, the classical questions of several complex variables motivating the development of this field are reviewed after necessary preparations from the basic notions of those variables and of complex manifolds such as holomorphic functions, pseudoconvexity, differential forms, and cohomology. In Chapter 2, the L2 method of solving the d-bar equation is presented emphasizing its differential geometric aspect. In Chapter 3, a refinement of the Oka–Cartan theory is given by this method. The L2 extension theorem with an optimal constant is included, obtained recently by Z. Błocki and by Q.-A. Guan and X.-Y. Zhou separately. In Chapter 4, various results on the Bergman kernel are presented, including recent works of Maitani–Yamaguchi, Berndtsson, and Guan–Zhou. Most of these results are obtained by the L2 method. In the last chapter, rather specific results are discussed on the existence and classification of certain holomorphic foliations and Levi flat hypersurfaces as their stables sets. These are also applications of the L2 method obtained during these 15 years.
Book Synopsis Metrics of Positive Scalar Curvature and Generalised Morse Functions, Part I by : Mark P. Walsh
Download or read book Metrics of Positive Scalar Curvature and Generalised Morse Functions, Part I written by Mark P. Walsh and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that isotopic metrics of positive scalar curvature are concordant. Whether or not the converse holds is an open question, at least in dimensions greater than four. The author shows that for a particular type of concordance, constructed using the surgery techniques of Gromov and Lawson, this converse holds in the case of closed simply connected manifolds of dimension at least five.
Book Synopsis Iterated Function Systems, Moments, and Transformations of Infinite Matrices by : Palle E. T. Jørgensen
Download or read book Iterated Function Systems, Moments, and Transformations of Infinite Matrices written by Palle E. T. Jørgensen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors study the moments of equilibrium measures for iterated function systems (IFSs) and draw connections to operator theory. Their main object of study is the infinite matrix which encodes all the moment data of a Borel measure on $\mathbb{R}^d$ or $\mathbb{C}$. To encode the salient features of a given IFS into precise moment data, they establish an interdependence between IFS equilibrium measures, the encoding of the sequence of moments of these measures into operators, and a new correspondence between the IFS moments and this family of operators in Hilbert space. For a given IFS, the authors' aim is to establish a functorial correspondence in such a way that the geometric transformations of the IFS turn into transformations of moment matrices, or rather transformations of the operators that are associated with them.
Book Synopsis $Q$-Valued Functions Revisited by : Camillo De Lellis
Download or read book $Q$-Valued Functions Revisited written by Camillo De Lellis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this memoir the authors revisit Almgren's theory of $Q$-valued functions, which are functions taking values in the space $\mathcal{A}_Q(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ of unordered $Q$-tuples of points in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. In particular, the authors: give shorter versions of Almgren's proofs of the existence of $\mathrm{Dir}$-minimizing $Q$-valued functions, of their Holder regularity, and of the dimension estimate of their singular set; propose an alternative, intrinsic approach to these results, not relying on Almgren's biLipschitz embedding $\xi: \mathcal{A}_Q(\mathbb{R}^{n})\to\mathbb{R}^{N(Q,n)}$; improve upon the estimate of the singular set of planar $\mathrm{D}$-minimizing functions by showing that it consists of isolated points.

Book Synopsis Multicurves and Equivariant Cohomology by : Neil P. Strickland
Download or read book Multicurves and Equivariant Cohomology written by Neil P. Strickland and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let $A$ be a finite abelian group. The author sets up an algebraic framework for studying $A$-equivariant complex-orientable cohomology theories in terms of a suitable kind of equivariant formal group. He computes the equivariant cohomology of many spaces in these terms, including projective bundles (and associated Gysin maps), Thom spaces, and infinite Grassmannians.
Book Synopsis The Schrodinger Model for the Minimal Representation of the Indefinite Orthogonal Group $O(p,q)$ by : Toshiyuki Kobayashi
Download or read book The Schrodinger Model for the Minimal Representation of the Indefinite Orthogonal Group $O(p,q)$ written by Toshiyuki Kobayashi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors introduce a generalization of the Fourier transform, denoted by $\mathcal{F}_C$, on the isotropic cone $C$ associated to an indefinite quadratic form of signature $(n_1,n_2)$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ ($n=n_1+n_2$: even). This transform is in some sense the unique and natural unitary operator on $L^2(C)$, as is the case with the Euclidean Fourier transform $\mathcal{F}_{\mathbb{R}^n}$ on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Inspired by recent developments of algebraic representation theory of reductive groups, the authors shed new light on classical analysis on the one hand, and give the global formulas for the $L^2$-model of the minimal representation of the simple Lie group $G=O(n_1+1,n_2+1)$ on the other hand.

Book Synopsis Supported Blow-Up and Prescribed Scalar Curvature on $S^n$ by : Man Chun Leung
Download or read book Supported Blow-Up and Prescribed Scalar Curvature on $S^n$ written by Man Chun Leung and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author expounds the notion of supported blow-up and applies it to study the renowned Nirenberg/Kazdan-Warner problem on $S^n$. When $n \ge 5$ and under some mild conditions, he shows that blow-up at a point with positive definite Hessian has to be a supported isolated blow-up, which, when combined with a uniform volume bound, is a removable singularity. A new asymmetric condition is introduced to exclude single simple blow-up. These enable the author to obtain a general existence theorem for $n \ge 5$ with rather natural condition.
Book Synopsis Elliptic Integrable Systems by : Idrisse Khemar
Download or read book Elliptic Integrable Systems written by Idrisse Khemar and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, the author studies all the elliptic integrable systems, in the sense of C, that is to say, the family of all the $m$-th elliptic integrable systems associated to a $k^\prime$-symmetric space $N=G/G_0$. The author describes the geometry behind this family of integrable systems for which we know how to construct (at least locally) all the solutions. The introduction gives an overview of all the main results, as well as some related subjects and works, and some additional motivations.
