Book Synopsis Les rituels du dialogue by : Aurore Monod-Becquelin
Download or read book Les rituels du dialogue written by Aurore Monod-Becquelin and published by Societé d'ethnologie. This book was released on 2000 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Religions in Play by : Philippe Bornet
Download or read book Religions in Play written by Philippe Bornet and published by Theologischer Verlag Zürich. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often dismissed as "not serious", the notion of play has nevertheless been at the centre of classical theories of religion and ritual (Huizinga, Caillois, Turner, Staal, etc.). What can be retained of those theories for the contemporary study of religions? Can a study of "play" or "game" bring new perspectives for the study of religions? The book deals with the history of games and their relation to religions, the links between divination and games, the relations between sport and ritual, the pedagogical functions of games in religious education, and the interaction between games, media and religions. Richly illustrated, the book contributes to the study of religions, to ritual, game and media studies, and addresses an academic as well as a general public. Philippe Bornet, Dr. Phil., born in 1977, is Lecturer in the Study of Religion at the Faculty of Lettres of the University of Lausanne, with focus on the history of interrelations between India and Europe. Maya Burger is Professor of Indian Studies and History of Religions at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne, Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations.

Book Synopsis Les vocabulaires locaux du "patrimoine" by : Julien Bondaz
Download or read book Les vocabulaires locaux du "patrimoine" written by Julien Bondaz and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2014 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Ne cherchez pas à comprendre, dansez seulement ! by : Mahesse Kolé
Download or read book Ne cherchez pas à comprendre, dansez seulement ! written by Mahesse Kolé and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2023-10-22 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when Côte d’Ivoire was experiencing a military-political crisis and was split in two (2002), the Coupé-Décalé appeared as a real innovation in the Ivorian musical universe. It caused a “sensation” with cultural practices, a dress code, choreographic concepts and musical forms that were atypical of the time. While pre-existing genres, such as Reggae, Hip Hop and Zuglou, are positioned as “committed” music, Coupé-Décalé, on the other hand, is in a completely different register: that of bringing joy, setting the mood, forgetting the sad reality of this difficult period. Nearly two decades later, the Coupé-Décalé continues to enjoy great popularity among a community of fans who are sensitive to the ideology promoted and the social practices that derive from it. This study develops a reflection on the Coupé-Décalé, a form of cultural mediation that consolidates a subcultural identity. It aims first to show the pictorial and imagined representations of the youth subculture through musical content, then to examine the actors, practices and interactions that lead to the development of the musical work, and finally, to demonstrate how the public and the producers, through the reception of the music and the identification with the Coupé-Décalé, constitute a subculture. In short, the Coupé-Décalé is a subcultural identity. It specifies a new relationship to politics, to social norms and, above all, a quest for pleasure, endangerment and amusement.

Book excerpt: This collection offers a challenge to any simple understanding of the role of images by looking at aspects of the reception of image worship that have only begun to be studied, including the many hesitations that Asian religious traditions expressed about image worship. Written by eminent scholars of anthropology, art history, and religion with interests in different regions (India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia), this volume takes a fresh look at the many ways in which images were defined and received in Asian religions. Book Synopsis The Gamification of Work by : Emmanuelle Savignac
Download or read book The Gamification of Work written by Emmanuelle Savignac and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the traditional opposition between play and work, games and their structure are increasingly used in workplaces. This phenomenon of using game elements or mechanisms in other contexts than games is named “gamification”. In workplaces, the gamification is supposed to abolish the separation between work and leisure or between constraint and pleasure. This book reviews a century of game theories in the social sciences and analyzes the uses of games in workplaces. We critically question the explicit functions (learning, experimentation…) which are supposed to be conveyed by games. Finally, we show that game, understood as a structure, could have efficient social functions in the workplace.
Book Synopsis Bringing the Gods to Mind by : Laurie L. Patton
Download or read book Bringing the Gods to Mind written by Laurie L. Patton and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005-06-27 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This elegantly written book introduces a new perspective on Indic religious history by rethinking the role of mantra in Vedic ritual. In Bringing the Gods to Mind, Laurie Patton takes a new look at mantra as "performed poetry" and in five case studies draws a portrait of early Indian sacrifice that moves beyond the well-worn categories of "magic" and "magico-religious" thought in Vedic sacrifice. Treating Vedic mantra as a sophisticated form of artistic composition, she develops the idea of metonymy, or associational thought, as a major motivator for the use of mantra in sacrificial performance. Filling a long-standing gap in our understanding, her book provides a history of the Indian interpretive imagination and a study of the mental creativity and hermeneutic sophistication of Vedic religion.
