Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that characterises Pat Davies' second book about hemi plegia and makes it so special? It is a book which committed ther apists can really use in their practical work with patients. We ther apists need such books. The engagement and enthusiasm must come from us. It is similar to a good cookbook. Admittedly one has to know something about cooking but when learning the secrets of haute cuisine - not just the expensive frills but the real refinement- then theoretical dissertations are not very helpful. In practice com ments like "you just have to have the right touch" are useless. Many books are disappointing because the reader cannot learn how to put theory into practice, as the author does not disclose the true secrets of his success, perhaps not really wanting the eager stu dents to "bake a good cake" for example. Such is not the case with this book. In the first theoretical chap ter "The Normal Trunk - Evolutionary and Anatomical Consider ations" the reader is given information about the significance of the normal anatomical relationships in the development of the body segments: the pelvis, thorax and head. The second chapter, "Aspects of Trunk Control", deals with the muscular control of movement within each of these inherently mobile segments. In the terminology of "Functional Kinetics" the different types of muscle activities are described, defining the importance of the selective use of the musculature in reaction to the pull of gravity.

I studied Microbiology at the University of Dhaka and later Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech, USA. Currently I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Same as many of you, I am trying to figure out the previous half of my life and have no clue what the other half holds, hence the name of the book, “Right in the middle”. I live in a land of science, where arts and poetry flow like rivers; they nourish me. My poems are influenced by family and friends, work, books, movies, places, people, nature... every little moment that I dream. I love expressing myself and listening to others. I hope you will enjoy my stories and tell me yours!

Book excerpt: For the first time ever, the top right-handed pitcher on the fabled New York Yankees teams of the early 1960s chronicles his life in both baseball and professional golf. The only man in major-league history to throw the final pitch in two World Series Game Sevens, Ralph Terry takes us inside the dugouts and onto the fields with a wealth of remembrances about his teammates and foes, including such unforgettable athletes as Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Yogi Berra, Billy Martin, and Elston Howard, to name only a few.A must for any sports fan, RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE celebrates the life and times of a star pitcher ? and, later, successful pro golfer ? who exchanged the dusty diamonds of his tiny Oklahoma hometown for the manicured playing field of Yankee Stadium, becoming a baseball legend in the process.

Book excerpt: Having finally received closure to the murder investigation of her family, Bridgett and Victor DeVeccio settle into the fun and challenging struggles of being a young married couple. Before they can become too content, those normal challenges are replaced with potential threats to Bridgett's safety. Her positive nature refuses to acknowledge the danger, even when warning signs are visible to everyone around her. How can she so easily diminish the memory of her former challenge to survive? At what point does her optimism make her even more vulnerable to menace? And, just who is the SHADOW? While "Right in the Middle!" is a continuation of the lives of the engaging characters she introduced in her book, A "Beginning", all readers are brought into the storyline of this sequel seamlessly. Once again, Jeanne Weiers offers clean, encouraging entertainment and uses her unique writing style to tantalize readers.

Book excerpt: Declining academic performance, along with a growing apathy of students toward the value of education, demonstrates that students in the United States public education system do not recognize the value of a positive experience in middle schools. A plethora of research and writing has been done on elementary schools and secondary schools, but middle school education, as a whole, has been left behind. For this reason, there is the need for current research on all aspects and topics that may contribute to middle school student success. Promoting Positive Learning Experiences in Middle School Education focuses on the ideal conditions for maximizing student success and engagement in middle school education. The chapters take a deeper look into the modern tools, technologies, methods, and theories driving current research on middle school students, their teachers, their classroom environment, and their learning. Highlighting topics such as curriculum reform, instructional strategies and practices, effective teaching, and technology in the modern classroom, this book is ideally intended for middle school teachers, middle school administrators, and school district administrators, along with practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in middle school education and student success.
