Book Synopsis Christ’s Enthronement at God’s Right Hand and Its Greco-Roman Cultural Context by : D. Clint Burnett
Download or read book Christ’s Enthronement at God’s Right Hand and Its Greco-Roman Cultural Context written by D. Clint Burnett and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the dearth of non-messianic interpretations of Psalm 110:1 in non-Christian Second Temple Jewish texts, why did it become such a widely used messianic prooftext in the New Testament and early Christianity? Previous attempts to answer this question have focused on why the earliest Christians first began to use Ps 110:1. The result is that these proposals do not provide an adequate explanation for why first century Christians living in the Greek East employed the verse and also applied it to Jesus’s exaltation. I contend that two Greco-Roman politico-religious practices, royal and imperial temple and throne sharing—which were cross-cultural rewards that Greco-Roman communities bestowed on beneficent, pious, and divinely approved rulers—contributed to the widespread use of Ps 110:1 in earliest Christianity. This means that the earliest Christians interpreted Jesus’s heavenly session as messianic and thus political, as well as religious, in nature.

We want to be used by Him and to experience the peace and fulfillment He wants for us. Yet it’s all too easy to fall into living mechanically, with a rule-based approach to the Christian life, or to focus on getting what we want when we want it. Even when we want to be willing, saying yes to whatever God asks often feels scary, and the distractions of this world get in the way. Vivian Mabuni knows this all too well, but she’s discovered that open-handed living starts with an intentional posture of the heart. Through surrender to His will, we draw closer to God in a way that makes our day-to-day lives more purposeful, powerful, and pleasing to Him. With Vivian’s warm encouragement in Open Hands, Willing Heart, you’ll learn how to step out in courageous trust as you invite God to give and take—and move and work—in your life as He sees fit. Along the way you’ll discover true joy and serenity that will carry you through every circumstance.

Book Synopsis The Right Hand of the Lord by : Paul Thomas
Download or read book The Right Hand of the Lord written by Paul Thomas and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2011-07-01 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first in a series that defend the One-God interpretation of the Bible. Mainstream Christianity understands the phrase "seated at the right hand of God" to imply a distinction between the Father and Jesus. In their view, this positions Jesus in a literal physical location to the right of the throne of God in heaven. This view is explored in this book and shown to be erroneous. The author argues, using scriptural evidence, that the phrase is metaphorical, and is in perfect harmony with the doctrine of the One True God in whom is no divisions or distinctions.
