Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main title of the book, From Darkness into Light, is a metaphor referring to the most important life-altering event in the author’s life from a totalitarian dictatorship to living in the free world. The subtitle reflects his eyewitness account of events and experiences, captured in five stories, in chronological order, from his birth in 1938 in Budapest, Hungary, to when he is in the United States as twenty-six years old as a married man with a child, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the world’s premier science and engineering institution, and ready to embark on living the American dream. Robert Ratonyi spent the first seven years of his life in an openly anti-Semitic country, suffering the loss of his father and many of his close relatives, uncles, aunts, and cousins, in the Holocaust. He then spent his adolescent years under the hard-core Stalinist communist dictatorship. He was brought up by a single mother, a Holocaust survivor, in a working-class neighborhood. According to contemporary American definition, the family lived in poverty, barely making it from paycheck to paycheck his uneducated and unskilled mother could provide as a manual laborer. As a freshman at the Technical University of Budapest, he participated in a peaceful student march on October 23, 1956, that turned into a bloody uprising against the regime. He was caught up in the uprising, hoping that Hungary could break free out of the “iron curtain” that separated the east from the west. When the Russians put down the revolution, he managed to escape to Austria on December 6, 1956, with no money or other earthly possessions, leaving behind his mother, family, and friends. He was single-mindedly focused on finding a new, free country where he could continue his university education. He went to the American Embassy in Vienna to apply for immigrating to the US but was told that the quota for Hungarian refugees was filled. The Canadians were actively seeking students who wanted to continue their education, and Robert Ratonyi ended up in Montréal, Canada, in February 1957. The last story ends when Robert Ratonyi succeeds in finishing his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. This story demonstrates how an immigrant can become a contributor to society by taking risks, being willing to work hard, delaying gratification, learning English, and getting a good education. He is now semiretired as a portfolio manager and is a regular speaker on behalf of the William Breman Jewish Heritage & Holocaust Museum and the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. He and his wife live in Atlanta and are fervent supporters of the arts, education, as well as local Jewish organizations.

He was a hard worker and was dedicated to his family. He was very health conscious. He always woke up early before he went to work, at 3:30 a.m., to have a workout. He had his gym in the backyard. He pumped iron every morning. He was always in good shape. He was not a drinker or smoker. He was a healthy person, till he got cancer. He received chemotherapy. All his hair fell out, and he got very thin. Even then, when he wasnt feeling well, he would train with his weights. He got my brother and me into training with weights when we were young. We still do it. He beat cancer, once, but it returned after a year or two. It eventually got him. He wrote two books over a time span over four years: From Darkness to Light and Walter the Wonder Boy. He was hoping to get them published, but it never happened. It was his dream to make money from his books. He was an excellent father. We will always love and miss him.

Book excerpt: Recalling Gurdjieff's intent for his first series: "To destroy, mercilessly, without any compromises whatsoever, in the mentation and feelings of the reader, the beliefs and views, by centuries rooted in him, about everything existing in the world." For years Gurdjieff's followers have been working, reading, struggling to understand his writing. We are like miners chipping away at the rocks of his books, seeking the dog he so carefully buried. That "dog" has been waiting patiently to be disinterred, but we have been digging with the wrong tools. A few new "shovels" and "picks" which may be helpful are suggested in this book. They are here for the taking; use them as you will. As a word of caution, though, be careful when you pull the dog out. He can be, at times, a bit wild. And let's face it, he's probably hungry after fifty years underground. That is to say, that dog could jump up and bite the legs right out from under some of your more treasured beliefs or it might even bite you somewhere dearer. The purpose of the second series is "To acquaint the reader with the material required for a new creation, and to prove the soundness and good quality of it." It is a ripening of time. The seeds of Gurdjieff's Picture-form language have been planted for over five decades, and are now ready to burst through the soil of our Psyche to reveal the holographic images of the messages he intended for us. And the purpose of the third series: "To assist the arising in the mentation and in the feelings of the reader, of a veritable, nonfantastic representation not of that illusory world which he now perceives, but of the world existing in reality." "And with regard to languages (Russian and English)," Gurdjieff said, "both these languages are like the dish which is called "Moscow Solinka," and into which everything goes except you and me, in fact everything you wish and even the after dinner chesma (veil) of Sheherazade. And from behind that veil Gurdjieff's hand now reaches to pull back the curtain, enabling us to see, if we will but open our eyes to the images hidden behind the words, the esoteric teaching

Truth is ridiculed and rejected and the bearers of it are often persecuted, even martyred for it. But truth forever stands in the face of all it's adversaries. And truth can never and will never be vanquished. For truth has always existed and truth will never end. For, Jesus Christ is the Truth, the Way, and the Life. No man cometh to the Father, but by Him. The poems in this book were inspired by God and are intended to bring glory to His Son, Jesus Christ, while exposing the stark reality of sin and the ravaging effects it is having on mankind. Some of the poems are based on the author's life experiences, while others were created by trying to envision life through the eyes of others. "He Set My Spirit Free" is the testimony of the author's life changing encounter with Jesus Christ. "Mother, I Will Meet You," was written in memory of the author's mother, Winifred Nostrand, who recently passed away in November 2008 at the age of 71. Also, "Daddy, My Heart is Broken," was made in sad memory of her father, who passed away in June 1996. The "Noble Husband," is dedicated to the author's dear husband, James Lodico. It is the author's heartfelt prayer, that the poems in this book will not only move the hearts of Christian men and women into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, but that it would convict the unsaved man of his sins so that he would turn to Jesus Christ, the only One who can save him and provide an entrance into heaven. Any direct quotes from the Bible were taken from the King James Version.

He may have been seen as living a normal childhood. But inwardly, Marty lived in a world of his own creation. It was a dark and dangerous world which influenced everything he thought and did and which ultimately framed his perception of himself—small, weak, not very bright, and always a failure. Fortified by one misadventure after another, that perception was firmly implanted in his mind. All that changed, however, when Marty joined the US Navy where, removed from his childhood environment, he was able to gauge himself against other boys his own age. And he found that he wasn’t what he thought he was. Instead, he was a strong, confident, popular, successful, and typical young sailor— that is, until his childhood trauma came back to haunt him, this time with a vengeance that all but destroyed his life. Returning home after his service, he found that nothing had changed and soon was again the boy he once was but now driven to succeed, if for no other reason than to prove to himself that he could do it. Faced with a choice of majors, he chose electronic engineering because it was thought to be the most difficult course of study. Later, sensing that something was wrong with him emotionally, and deeming it psychological, he embarked on a private journey, hoping to unearth the root cause of his problems. After reading several books on psychology, he attempted self-analysis. The effects were devastating. He became paranoid and began having thoughts of suicide. Ultimately, an unexpected event forced him to confront the truth, and his childhood trauma was finally brought into the light of day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the process of writing two short collections of light hearted material, (one published and one yet to be published), the author became acutely aware that he could not continue forward without addressing what he considered to be the most important issues of human existence. All of us have asked ourselves the questions, "What is the meaning of life" and "Why am I here"? Some have rejected the idea of an eternal soul, some are undecided, while others are largely unconcerned, but the author has chosen to embrace the concept and run with it. He believes there is a single overriding mission for every individual alive today. The sole purpose of this life is to prepare for the next one, and every person has been given the ability to control his own destiny. When compared to eternity, our lives are like a single knot in a rope that stretches around the world. From the foundation of the earth, a plan has been in place to allow humanity to share the wonders of eternity with the Creator of all things. Those who follow that plan will be rewarded accordingly, while those who prefer to separate themselves from the influence of a Higher Power, will be granted their wish in eternity. If this book convinces one person to follow the plan that leads to redemption, then it will have been well worth the effort.

Why do we exist in a world with dominating curses more than blessings? Why can't we define the true meaning of happiness, and barely smell its odor? When are we going to finally start asking the right questions? Why are we down here on this planet, asked to seek perfection in an imperfect world? What was the true reason behind making Prophet Adam eat from the forbidden tree? When do artists finally reach their point of perfection? If human beings, animals and insects have their own psychology, what about other creatures among which are invisible ones? Not all explanations are mentioned in books But till when will we have questions without any answers? Searching for a way, some souls ask: Why does darkness exist, while light seems endless? We search for the key chain, while we don't even know which door is the right one! But, who's she; who astonished his life, captured the sundered pieces of his heart, and brought him the keys to tons of buried secrets the one who didn't fear touching his wounds, and the one who anticipated all his moves? Some masts are old enough to be one of the antiques the sea carries or swallows, yet it still supports the deck, controls the ship, and above its towering apex, it guides the captain It's still a lively organ in the giant space of the sea. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a small history of the life of a girl born in 1953. She was raised by her grandmother. Back in those days, there were things we could not ask, which means there were things we did not know. They say you learn from your mistakes. There are a lot of things that could be avoided through communication and listening; without it, a child could feel like he or she isthey are not loved by their family. This will cause you to go through life with blinders on, but sometimes, love will prevail. My timeline started when I was four years old. This is when my father died. He died in a car accident, and he and some of his friends were partying and drinking. They all got in the car with their girlfriends; my father was cheating on my mother. Nonetheless, it was six of them three men and three ladies. They were speeding and drunk. The driver lost control of the car and ran off the road into a canal, and the car ended up in the canal of water . My father was in the backseat of the car; he died, and so did his girlfriend. Wasnt that a blimp? He left Mama and six children behind because of his foolishness. This was a disaster for my mother. It was so hard for her, but she did what she had to do to keep us together as a family. We were so young, from four months to sixteen years. Mother did not get along with my dads mother, so she did not have much help. Her mother stayed far away from where we lived, but if or when she needed her mother, she was there. Eventually, my mother was forced to move to where her mother lived so she could help her raise us children. We were raised rough. My daddys parents had a farm that we were raised working on itI loved it. By the way, I am a twin. Everything my twin did, I did it too. I and my twin are oneyou cant get between us unless you want to fight. We are identical twins. My mother had another set of twins; they were boy and girl, Erick and Eva. We moved to Chestnut Grove. My uncle and aunt came and moved us all. No one wanted to move, but we had no choice. It was not open for discussion. We were brought to a strange town where we knew no one. Mom was very unhappy. She tried to move back but was brought right back. After a few attempts, she gave up and settled in. Mom confined herself to her room for quite a while; she was drowning in sorrowshe was drowning . We lost our mother for a while; we had only ourselves and Grandmother. One thing my mother always insisted on was that we all stayed together. She always had the satisfaction in knowing that her children were always there with her. We know she loved us just as we loved heronly my grandmother was running the show. Its been five years now since we made the move. Mom is straight, and we all have adjusted to our new home. My granny has some very strict rules, which were too hard to follow. We were having serious problems. We were not allowed to go anywhere unless it was church. Dont get me wrong, I love church, but there are other things that I would like to have done also, like going to a friends house. We all call it the jailhouse; we stayed on lockdown around there. After we (me and my twin) gotreached sixteen years old, things were getting rough around there. Some of us began to speak up for ourselves. With that, there were major problems and repercussions. There were a lot of things that we should have known about the facts of life that we were never told. We were not able to discuss sex at all. If we asked questions about sex, we were called hoes and sluts and were accused of having sexso no questions, no problems. One day, we were looking at a soap show on TV, and Snapper kissed Jill, and because they were kissing, my granny turned the TV off and called us hot in the rump. She said we were sitting there making our private parts jump. I tried my best not to laugh, but I could not hold it. I burst out laughing. My sisters got scared of what my granny was going to do to me. I looked at

Book excerpt: The End and The Beginning: From Darkness to Light is a dramatic portrayal of the Son of God, the Pioneer of our faith: JESUS as depicted in the four gospels. This is His story: a story that reaffirms our belief and faith in Him as our Savior. He Was a Galilean Jew and well-acquainted with Jewish law. His birth, ministry, death and resurrection serve as a basis of Gods continuing proclamation of joy and sadness, despair and hope, isolation and crowds and apparent defeat but in the end VICTORY! It is a story that never leaves us: a story that our parents, the sons and daughters of slaves, born of religious convictions and faith, shared with us during the days of our early youth amidst sweat, tears and a weary life. They referred to Him, both in song and thought as their Sweet Little Jesus Boy. This was the only thing that they truly could claim as their own. A CHILD A SON IS GIVEN UNTO YOU AS GOD HAD PROMISED!
