This book was released on 2006 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling techniques were employed to establish the relationship between the rheological properties (G* and ?) of asphalt binders and asphalt-aggregate mixtures. Results of this study indicate that the complex modulus and phase angle of the mixture can be represented by the same parameters obtained from the binder under the conditions of material linearity. This relationship is independent of frequency (or loading time) and temperature. For typical dense graded asphalt mixtures, the relationship is not significantly affected by the characteristics of both the asphalt binder and the aggregate. The relationship between the complex moduli of the asphalt binder and mixture can be mathematically modeled by the generalized power function. This function is more precise than the Heukelom and Klomp model (HK expression) and bilogarithm linear model (BL approximation), particularly at low and high modulus values. The generalized power function can differentiate asphalt binder as a viscoelastic liquid and asphalt mixture as a viscoelastic solid under the action of shear loading. The relationship of the phase angles, as an integrated part of rheological property of a viscoelastic material, between asphalt binders and mixtures can be modeled by a modified haversine function. This function completes the modeling of rheological properties as a whole for the first time and also reflects the fundamental material difference between the binder and the mixture in viscoelastic theory. Characterizing the asphalt mixture properties through the binder properties not only can save tremendous efforts in testing an asphalt mixture, but also can simplify the pavement performance prediction.

Book excerpt: This volume highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in bituminous materials and structures and asphalt pavement technology, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials (ISBM), held in Lyon, France on December 14-16, 2020. The symposium represents a joint effort of three RILEM Technical Committees from Cluster F: 264-RAP “Asphalt Pavement Recycling”, 272-PIM “Phase and Interphase Behaviour of Bituminous Materials”, and 278-CHA “Crack-Healing of Asphalt Pavement Materials”. It covers a diverse range of topics concerning bituminous materials (bitumen, mastics, mixtures) and road, railway and airport pavement structures, including: recycling, phase and interphase behaviour, cracking and healing, modification and innovative materials, durability and environmental aspects, testing and modelling, multi-scale properties, surface characteristics, structure performance, modelling and design, non-destructive testing, back-analysis, and Life Cycle Assessment. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster new multidisciplinary collaborations.

Book Synopsis Modified Asphalt by : Jose Luis Rivera Armenta
Download or read book Modified Asphalt written by Jose Luis Rivera Armenta and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asphalt modification is an important area in the development of new road and pavement materials. There is an urgent demand for road materials that can minimize fracture at low temperatures and increase resistance to deformation at high temperatures. The function of asphalt is to bind aggregate to protect it from water and other harmful agents. In the beginning asphalt was ideal for this purpose, but recently traffic loads have increased and environmental factors have deteriorated more rapidly than before. Asphalt is a byproduct of crude oil in the refining process, and it is considered a complex heterogeneous mixture of hydrocarbons. Asphalt modification has become an important research area, using several methods and new materials as modifiers.

Book Synopsis Asphaltenes and Asphalts, 1 by : G.V. Chilingarian
Download or read book Asphaltenes and Asphalts, 1 written by G.V. Chilingarian and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1994-09-08 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of a two-volume set of critical reviews of many aspects of both asphaltenes and asphalts and their interrelationship. Asphaltene is invariably present in asphalt or bitumen and other fossil fuel-derived liquids such as coal tar, coal liquefaction products, pyrolyzed shale oil from oil shales, source rock extracts and numerous naturally occurring bituminous substances. The latter include asphaltites, asphaltoids, waxes, and carbonaceous deposits containing a composition of petroleum and coal. The contents cover not only the basic science of asphaltene but also deal with the applications and technology such as upstreams (production, recovery) and down streams (refining, upgrading) of petroleum, and the paving technology and formulation preparation. The main features of the book are: it provides an up-to-date, in-depth review of every aspect of asphaltenes and asphalts; it spans five decades of research and technology of heavy fractions of petroleum; it presents a global view of asphaltene related to exploration production, refining and upgrading. The book will be welcomed as a valuable reference source for petroleum companies, research institutes, refineries, universities and also by individuals dealing with the production, origin, formation, engineering, conversion and catalysis of heavy oil, tar sands and other bitumens materials.
