Book Synopsis Mergers & Acquisitions by : Mohammed Ibrahimi
Download or read book Mergers & Acquisitions written by Mohammed Ibrahimi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with corporate mergers and acquisitions by analyzing the financial and strategic aspects. It starts with a chronological justification of the evolution of external growth operations and ends with case studies in order to put into practice the theoretical contribution of the previous titles. Through this book, we wish to detail the types of mergers and acquisitions, their modes, their motivations, their consequences and their performances. First of all, we propose a panoply of scientific research, methodological explanations and logical structuring to expose a subject of experience considered for a long time as a phenomenon in finance. Then, through a sample of 90 mergers or acquisitions, we analyze the effects of these transactions on French companies.

Book Synopsis Morphology of Crystals by : Ichiro Sunagawa
Download or read book Morphology of Crystals written by Ichiro Sunagawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-02-29 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The molecular mechanisms underlying the fact that a crystal can take a variety of external forms is something we have come to understand only in the last few decades. This is due to recent developments in theoretical and experimental investigations of crystal growth mechanisms. Morphology of Crystals is divided into three separately available volumes. Part A contains chapters on roughening transition; equilibrium form; step pattern theory; modern PBC; and surface microtopography. This part provides essentially theoretical treatments of the problem, particularly the solid-liquid interface. Part B contains chapters on ultra-fine particles; minerals; transition from polyhedral to dendrite; theory of dendrite; and snow crystals. All chapters are written by world leaders in their respective areas, and some can be seen as representing the essence of a life's work. This is the first English-language work which covers all aspects of the morphology of crystals - a topic which has attracted top scientific minds for centuries. As such, it is indispensable for anyone seeking an answer to a question relating to this fascinating problem: mineralogists, petrologists, crystallographers, materials scientists, workers in solid-state physics and chemistry, etc. In Parts A: Fundamentals and B: Fine Particles, Minerals and Snow equilibrium and kinetic properties of crystals are generally approached from an `atomistic' point of view. In contrast, Part C: The Geometry of Crystal Growth follows the alternative and complementary `geometrical' description, where bulk phases are considered as continuous media and their interfaces as mathematical surfaces with orientation-dependent properties. Equations of motion for a crystal surface are expressed in terms of vector and tensor operators working on surface free energy and growth rate, both expressed as functions of surface orientation and driving force, or `affinity' for growth. This approach emphasizes the interrelation between equilibrium and kinetic behavior. Part 1 establishes the theoretical framework. Part 2 gives a construction toolbox for explicit (analytic) functions. An extra chapter is devoted to experimental techniques for measuring such functions: a new approach to sphere growth experiments. The emphasis throughout is on principles and new concepts. Audience: Advanced readers familiar with traditional aspects of crystal growth theory. Can be used as the basis for an advanced course, provided supplementation is provided in the areas of atomistic models of the advancing surface, diffusion fields, etc.

Book Synopsis The Growing Spine by : Behrooz A. Akbarnia
Download or read book The Growing Spine written by Behrooz A. Akbarnia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spinal disorders in very young children may be caused by a variety of conditions. The treatment of such conditions is often challenging due to the age of the patient and the progressive nature of the deformity. There also may be associated problems such as congenital anomalies, respiratory insufficiency, and neurological problems. Depending on the etiology of the deformity, these children are often cared for by multiple specialists including pediatricians, pediatric orthopaedists or orthopaedic spine surgeons, neurologists, pediatric surgeons, pediatric neurosurgeons, oncologists, and/or pulmonologists. Health professionals in all of the mentioned disciplines are involved in the management of these patients, which is why compiling a comprehensive textbook that is not limited to orthopedic specialists is essential. This textbook will effectively help to standardize the care of these patients. Furthermore, other professionals such as nurses, physical therapists and healthcare professionals in training are usually not familiar with these conditions and are in need of a reference book to consult when caring for children with spinal deformities.

Book Synopsis The Impact of Remittances on Rural Poverty and Inequality in China by : Nong Zhu
Download or read book The Impact of Remittances on Rural Poverty and Inequality in China written by Nong Zhu and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2008 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Large numbers of agricultural labor moved from the countryside to cities after the economic reforms in China. Migration and remittances play an important role in transforming the structure of rural household income. This paper examines the impact of rural-to-urban migration on rural poverty and inequality in the case of Hubei province using the data of a 2002 household survey. Since remittances are a potential substitute for farm income, the paper presents counterfactual scenarios of what rural income, poverty, and inequality would have been in the absence of migration. The results show that, by providing alternatives to households with lower marginal labor productivity in agriculture, migration leads to an increase in rural income. In contrast to many studies that suggest the increasing share of non-farm income in total income widens inequality, this paper offers support for the hypothesis that migration tends to have egalitarian effects on rural income for three reasons: (i) migration is rational self-selection - farmers with higher agricultural productivities choose to remain in local agricultural production while those with higher expected return in urban non-farm sectors migrate; (ii) poorer households facing binding constraints of land shortage are more likely to migrate; and (iii) the poorest poor benefit disproportionately from remittances.

Book Synopsis Bananas and Plantains by : John Charles Robinson
Download or read book Bananas and Plantains written by John Charles Robinson and published by CABI. This book was released on 2010 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crop Production Science in Horticulture series examines economically important horticultural crops selected from the major production systems in temperate, subtropical and tropical climatic areas. Systems represented range from open field and plantation sites to protected plastic and glass houses, growing rooms and laboratories. Emphasis is placed on the scientific principles underlying crop production practices rather than on providing empirical recipes for uncritical acceptance. Each volume follows a common format covering all aspects of production, from background physiology and breeding, to propagation and planting, through husbandry and crop protection, to harvesting, handling and storage. This volume (2nd edition) focuses on bananas and plantains (Musa), discussing topics on their distribution and importance (chapter 1); taxonomic classification, cultivars and breeding (chapter 2); morphological characteristics and plant development (chapter 3); climatic requirements and problems due to climate (chapter 4); phenological and physiological responses (chapter 5); site selection, soil requirements and soil Preparation (chapter 6); establishing plantation (chapter 7); systems of cultivating bananas and product certifications (chapter 8); nutritional requirements (chapter 9); water requirements and irrigation (chapter 10); horticultural management (chapter 11); diseases (chapter 12); pests (chapter 13); harvesting and fruit handling (chapter 14); and ripening, biochemistry and uses (chapter 15).
