Book Synopsis Handbook on Public Private Partnerships in Transportation, Vol I by : Simon Hakim
Download or read book Handbook on Public Private Partnerships in Transportation, Vol I written by Simon Hakim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in global transportation infrastructure. Seen as a way to provide vital services in an era of shrinking government budgets, public-private partnerships have become an increasingly important part of travel infrastructure worldwide. This book describes and analyzes the structure of various models of PPPs in various countries, evaluating their effectiveness, and drawing policy implications for future use. Written by leading international researchers and practitioners in the transportation field, each chapter is a case study on the adoption, implementation, and outcome of transportation services in different municipalities. Taken together, these diverse case studies provide an integrated framework for evaluating and using PPPs. Providing rigorous empirical analysis of PPPs in transportation, this volume will be of interest to researchers in public administration, political science, and economics as well as practitioners and policymakers involved in establishing and monitoring PPPs in transportation.

Book Synopsis The Accelerating Transport Innovation Revolution by : George Giannopoulos
Download or read book The Accelerating Transport Innovation Revolution written by George Giannopoulos and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Accelerating Transport Innovation Revolution: A Global, Case Study-based Assessment of Current Experience, Cross-sectorial Effects and Socioeconomic Transformations, offers a comprehensive view of current state-of-the-art and practices around the world to create innovation on a revolutionary scale and connect research to commercial exploitation of its results. It offers a fascinating new model of the innovation process based on theories of biological ecosystems, general systems theory and basins of attraction (represented through space-time graphs well known in mathematics). Furthermore, it considers - through a number of dedicated chapters - key issues and elements of innovation ecosystems, such as: Causal Factors and system constraints affecting the development and sustainability of innovation ecosystems (Chapter 4); Review of innovation organization and governance in key countries and regions (Chapter 5); the role of technological "Spillovers" (Chapter 6); Collection and use of data for innovation monitoring and benchmarking (Chapter 7); Intellectual Property protection between competing ecosystems (Chapter 8); Economics of innovation (Chapter 9); Public and private sector involvement in Transport innovation creation (Chapter 10); the role of the individual entrepreneur - innovator in energizing change (Chapter 11). Finally, in Chapter 12, there is a thorough summary of key findings. This book uses a paradigmatic approach to augment the innovation ecosystem model of innovation that integrates beliefs and learning into the innovation ecosystems model. It therefore includes ten case studies from the U.S., Europe and Asia, detailing how innovation is created across continents and different ecosystems and what are the critical lessons to be learned. It does this, effectively, at five different levels of analysis i.e. the individual innovator / entrepreneur level, the organization level (government agency or company), the regional ecosystem level, the nation-state level and the global - systemic or international level. Each level of analysis, reveals unique features of the innovation landscape and the ten case studies allow the reader to assess when and where specific "enablers" are facilitating innovation especially on a revolutionary scale. The need for the book came from the realization that despite the billions of dollars spent on various research programs over the past 20 years (especially in the public sector), there have been few clear and tangible efforts directed at exploring how innovation production increasingly occurs and the critical factors necessary to sustain large-scale, revolutionary change as the future unfolds. Thus, a primary theme of the book is that understanding how research results translate into market innovation and implementation, especially understanding the nature of revolutionary innovation, is as important as the creation of innovations themselves. While the focus of the book is on Transportation, the concepts and recommendations presented apply to other fields too.

Book excerpt: This study was approved by the CDOT's Research Implementation Committee as a high priority research with the goal of improving the accuracy of the existing and forecasted traffic loads of CDOT's highway network. The overall scope of this project involved examination of those resources directly related to the current statewide ESAL classification system and the generation of this final report discussing the research and analysis conducted and recommendation of procedures required for CDOT to develop and implement a more site-specific ESAL classification system. In this study Nichols Consulting Engineers (NCE) analyzed all available CDOT permanent and portable weigh-in-motion (WIM) data.
Book Synopsis Performance Evaluation of Various Corrosion Protection Systems of Bridges in Colorado by : Yunping Xi
Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Various Corrosion Protection Systems of Bridges in Colorado written by Yunping Xi and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures has been a significant problem for many state and transportation agencies since the application of deicing salts was introduced. Much research has been conducted to develop corrosion protection systems that can prolong the life span of reinforced concrete structures. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has several routine and experimental measures to prevent corrosion of the rebar including epoxy-coated rebar, calcium nitrite admixture, organic corrosion inhibitors, a thick cover of quality concrete, and a waterproofing membrane covered by an asphalt overlay. An extensive literature review was performed to collect information on various corrosion protection systems that have been used in the U.S. and around the world. Current CDOT practices in terms of corrosion protection measures were reviewed. A draft inspection plan for Colorado's bridge structures was proposed.
Book Synopsis Stone Mastic Asphalt in Colorado by : Donna S. Harmelink
Download or read book Stone Mastic Asphalt in Colorado written by Donna S. Harmelink and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the construction and performance of the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) first two Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) projects. The first project, located on SH 119 from SH 52 to Longmont, contained three SMA mixes, two polymer-stabilized mixes and one fiber mix. This project successfully demonstrated the design, production and placement of SMA. The second project located on the Colfax Viaduct in Denver was CDOT's first attempt to use SMA on a bridge deck. This project used a polymer-stabilized mix. This project successfully demonstrated the placement of SMA on a bridge deck. SMA is currently being used as a wearing surface in Colorado. Guidelines and a best practice guide have been developed and have been adopted for statewide use. In addition, CDOT's Bridge Branch has developed a specification for using SMA as part of the overlay system.

Book Synopsis Sampling Location Impact on Measured Asphalt Content of Hot Mix Asphalt by : Mohammad Abu-Hassan
Download or read book Sampling Location Impact on Measured Asphalt Content of Hot Mix Asphalt written by Mohammad Abu-Hassan and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 2000, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) requested a forensic study of a project located on I-24 north of Denver. The request was made because, within a year of the 1997 overlay, longitudinal cracking appeared in the surface. Transverse cracks were attributed to reflective cracking. However, the longitudinal cracks appeared to be surface initiated. In October 2000, a forensic team reviewed the project and established a sampling and testing plan to take cores from the roadway. Based on data analysis of the cores, the higher than expected in-place air voids, the low effective asphalt, and segregation within the mat, all contributed to the early cracking.
