Book Synopsis Money, Method, and the Market Process by : Margit von Mises
Download or read book Money, Method, and the Market Process written by Margit von Mises and published by Kluwer Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edited by Richard M. Ebeling This volume might be called the Mises Reader, for it contains a wide sampling of his academic essays on money, trade, and economic systems. Some of them, like "Observations on the Cooperative Movement," have not been published previously. Others, like "The Idea of Liberty Is Western," have already made their mark on intellectual history. Brought together by Mrs. Mises after her husband's death, and edited with an introduction by Richard Ebeling, this volume fills an important gap in providing an overview of Ludwig von Mises's best academic work. For that reason, this book is already widely used in graduate courses and seminars on the resurgence of the Austrian School.

Book Synopsis Austrian Economics Re-examined by : Gerald P O'Driscoll Jr
Download or read book Austrian Economics Re-examined written by Gerald P O'Driscoll Jr and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Austrian Economics Re-examined: The Economics of Time and Ignorance is an expanded version of the 1996 edition of The Economics of Time and Ignorance. This work is a classic statement of the role of subjectivism, radical uncertainty and change through real time in Austrian economics specifically, and in modern economics more generally. The new book contains the full text and Introductions of the earlier edition as well as the comprehensive previously-unpublished essay "What is Austrian Economics?" and a new Introduction. The essay is a comprehensive overview of the central themes of the book from a somewhat different perspective than in the book itself. It supplements the analysis in the book. The new Introduction explains that the 2007-8 financial crisis and recent developments in behavioural economics have made the book more relevant than ever before. Austrian Economic Re-examined develops and systematizes the fundamental principles of the Austrian tradition to the analysis of rational expectations, business cycles, monetary theory competition and monopoly, and capital theory. Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Austrian Economics by : Peter J. Boettke
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Austrian Economics written by Peter J. Boettke and published by Oxford Handbooks. This book was released on 2015 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Oxford Handbook of Austrian Economics' provides an overview of the main methodological, analytical, and practical implications of the Austrian school of economics. This intellectual tradition in economics and political economy has a long history that dates back to Carl Menger in the late nineteenth century. The various contributions discussed in this book all reflect this 'tension' of an orthodox argumentative structure (rational choice and invisible hand) to address heterodox problem situations (uncertainty, differential knowledge, ceaseless change).
Book Synopsis Austrian Economics: Tensions and New Directions by : Bruce J. Caldwell
Download or read book Austrian Economics: Tensions and New Directions written by Bruce J. Caldwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we first invited the group of distinguished scholars represented here to contribute to a new volume on Austrian economics, four themes were stressed: tensions, new directions, selectivity, and criticism. In this brief introduction we will explain why those themes were emphasized and thereby shed light on our intentions and aspirations for the volume. The subtitle "Tensions and New Directions" indicates clearly the intent of the volume desired. If we take the 1871 publication of Carl Menger's Principles of Economics (Grundsiitze der Volkswirthschaftslehre) as mark ing its birth, the Austrian tradition is now well over one hundred years old. The origins of the so-called "Austrian Revival" are more difficult to pinpoint precisely, but many would accept two decades as a reasonable estimate of its lifespan. In any case, since the mid-1970s several collections of articles written by Austrians have been published. The intent of these collections appeared to be to educate, persuade, and inspire various audiences. Uninformed readers needed to be told about the specifics of the Austrian position, to be shown how it differed from and improved upon its rivals. The initiated needed to be reassured that their commitment to a novel program was justified. As such, much of the recent Austrian literature has consisted either of exegetical accounts of the views of past figures, or of critical assessments of the positions of alternative research programs in economics from an Austrian perspective.

Book Synopsis Austrian Economics and the Political Economy of Freedom by : Richard M. Ebeling
Download or read book Austrian Economics and the Political Economy of Freedom written by Richard M. Ebeling and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He shows the continuities between the positive contributions of the classical economists and the Austrian's in contrast to the neoclassical conceptions of man, the market economy and theory-formation for policy applications. Particular emphasis is given to the Austrian view of the human actor as creative innovator and planner who changes his world to improve his circumstances in comparison to the neoclassical idea of man as a passive economizer within given constraints. The Austrian approach is applied to the problems of the regulated economy, socialist central planning, the welfare state, monetary policy, international trade, and the hundred-year conflict between classical liberalism and collectivism.
Book Synopsis The Marginal Revolutionaries by : Janek Wasserman
Download or read book The Marginal Revolutionaries written by Janek Wasserman and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A group history of the Austrian School of Economics, from the coffeehouses of imperial Vienna to the modern-day Tea Party The Austrian School of Economics--a movement that has had a vast impact on economics, politics, and society, especially among the American right--is poorly understood by supporters and detractors alike. Defining themselves in opposition to the mainstream, economists such as Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, and Joseph Schumpeter built the School's international reputation with their work on business cycles and monetary theory. Their focus on individualism--and deep antipathy toward socialism--ultimately won them a devoted audience among the upper echelons of business and government. In this collective biography, Janek Wasserman brings these figures to life, showing that in order to make sense of the Austrians and their continued influence, one must understand the backdrop against which their philosophy was formed--notably, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a half-century of war and exile.
