There is obviously a conflict between the medical world and Pd patients. There are many other conflicting areas surrounding the treatment of Pd that I pose in this book. This book gives a brief account of how I managed to overcome the symptoms and what I must do to maintain my present condition. I pose a question that might give us a clearer idea of how the drugs industry approach the subject of cures and treatments. We Patients want a cure for Pd but, it is my feeling that it is in the Drug Industry's interest to treat the symptoms over a long period of time, rather than curing it. What they would get for a cure would be a fraction of what they get for the years of treatment they currently do.

In contrast, researchers have only recently begun to focus on the NMS of Parkinson's Disease, which are poorly recognized and inadequately treated by clinicians. The NMS of PD have a significant impact on patient quality of life and mortality and include neuropsychiatric, sleep-related, autonomic, gastrointestinal, and sensory symptoms. While some NMS can be improved with currently available treatments, others may be more refractory and will require research into novel (non-dopaminergic) drug therapies for the future.
