Book excerpt: Your success is not by what you have and own or what you are involved with in your social life. Your success is by what you are doing here with the spiritual life through the physical presence. It's not about where you're at with what you have. It's about where you're at with who you are, then you will have everything that you need. Do not sell your life for some simple-minded success. Reality is an illusion that must be recognized and overcome in order to make it out. Humans must reach a deeper point on focusing past the beliefs of what they think and know as being true. We live in a reality where people believe that truth is found from the media of an Internet revolution, and that is far from accurate. Humans accept the world from the reality in which they are presented. The only way to see the truth in the right form is from within. The soul is what makes a person human, and the soul holds true that the physical mind can barely comprehend. You have to be spiritually developed outside of society for your mind to be evolved in processing and handling the path of light through your soul. It is through the soul that you discover and become conscious of understanding the deepest truths. People who strictly live in the world will never come to know their souls. The soul is the only way to true wisdom and eternal life. Do you want to become less of who you are, or do you want to become more than what you were led to believe that you are? Humans must always live in the light of who they are outside of this world. Otherwise, they're just living a baseless existence following under the guidance of wickedness to an impending eternal death.

Its source code is in the Han Dynasty medical classics, and in this handbook esteemed practitioner and educator Professor Z'ev Rosenberg shares the knowledge from his study of these classic texts and his experiences treating difficult cases. In the tradition of the scholar-physician commentaries, Z'ev Rosenberg comments on the Simple Questions that introduce the core principles of the Inner Canon; explaining how these inform his methodology of diagnosis and advising on how biomedical diseases can be retranslated into sophisticated Chinese medical diagnoses including patterns of differentiation, sequential diagnosis, synchronicity, season, climate and environment. He discusses how Chinese medicine can use unique diagnostic parameters to rebalance the landscape and chronobiology of the body and address the greatest clinical challenges of our time, including the contemporary epidemic of autoimmune disorders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Black to Nature: Pastoral Return and African American Culture, author Stefanie K. Dunning considers both popular and literary texts that range from Beyoncé’s Lemonade to Jesmyn Ward’s Salvage the Bones. These key works restage Black women in relation to nature. Dunning argues that depictions of protagonists who return to pastoral settings contest the violent and racist history that incentivized Black disavowal of the natural world. Dunning offers an original theoretical paradigm for thinking through race and nature by showing that diverse constructions of nature in these texts are deployed as a means of rescrambling the teleology of the Western progress narrative. In a series of fascinating close readings of contemporary Black texts, she reveals how a range of artists evoke nature to suggest that interbeing with nature signals a call for what Jared Sexton calls “the dream of Black Studies”—abolition. Black to Nature thus offers nuanced readings that advance an emerging body of critical and creative work at the nexus of Blackness, gender, and nature. Written in a clear, approachable, and multilayered style that aims to be as poignant as nature itself, the volume offers a unique combination of theoretical breadth, narrative beauty, and broader perspective that suggests it will be a foundational text in a new critical turn towards framing nature within a cultural studies context.

Rites of Return examines the effects of this legacy of historical injustice and documented suffering on the politics of the present. Twenty-four writers, historians, literary and cultural critics, anthropologists and sociologists, visual artists, legal scholars, and curators grapple with our contemporary ethical endeavor to redress enduring inequities and retrieve lost histories. Mapping bold and broad-based responses to past injury across Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America, Australia, the Middle East, and the United States, Rites of Return examines new technologies of genetic and genealogical research, memoirs about lost family histories, the popularity of roots-seeking journeys, organized trauma tourism at sites of atrocity and new Museums of Conscience, and profound connections between social rites and political and legal rights of return. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From John Maynard Keynes’s prediction of a fifteen-hour workweek to present-day speculation about automation, we have not stopped forecasting the end of work. Critical theory and political philosophy have turned their attention away from the workplace to focus on other realms of domination and emancipation. But far from coming to an end, work continues to occupy a central place in our lives. This is not only because of the amount of time people spend on the job. Many of our deepest hopes and fears are bound up in our labor—what jobs we perform, how we relate to others, how we might flourish. The Return of Work in Critical Theory presents a bold new account of the human significance of work and the human costs of contemporary forms of work organization. A collaboration among experts in philosophy, social theory, and clinical psychology, it brings together empirical research with incisive analysis of the political stakes of contemporary work. The Return of Work in Critical Theory begins by looking in detail at the ways in which work today fails to meet our expectations. It then sketches a phenomenological description of work and examines the normative premises that underlie the experience of work. Finally, it puts forward a novel conception of work that can renew critical theory’s engagement with work and point toward possibilities for transformation. Inspired by Max Horkheimer’s vision of critical theory as empirically informed reflection on the sources of social suffering with emancipatory intent, The Return of Work in Critical Theory is a lucid diagnosis of the malaise and pathologies of contemporary work that proposes powerful remedies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the international system has been unipolar, centered on the United States. But the rise of China foreshadows a change in the distribution of power. Øystein Tunsjø shows that the international system is moving toward a U.S.-China standoff, bringing us back to bipolarity—a system in which no third power can challenge the top two. The Return of Bipolarity in World Politics surveys the new era of superpowers to argue that the combined effects of the narrowing power gap between China and the United States and the widening power gap between China and any third-ranking power portend a new bipolar system that will differ in crucial ways from that of the last century. Tunsjø expands Kenneth N. Waltz’s structural-realist theory to examine the new bipolarity within the context of geopolitics, which he calls “geostructural realism.” He considers how a new bipolar system will affect balancing and stability in U.S.-China relations, predicting that the new bipolarity will not be as prone to arms races as the previous era’s; that the risk of limited war between the two superpowers is likely to be higher in the coming bipolarity, especially since the two powers are primarily rivals at sea rather than on land; and that the superpowers are likely to be preoccupied with rivalry and conflict in East Asia instead of globally. Tunsjø presents a major challenge to how international relations understands superpowers in the twenty-first century.

The three-foot-long wooden box contains the notes and personal papers of the Poe men dating back to the eerie and mysterious Edgar Allen. It is passed on to every male Poe on his thirtieth birthday. John Charles has sworn not to divulge its secrets, but a call from his oldest friend, Roderick Usher, on the verge of a breakdown, may justify a broken oath.
