Meanwhile, his nights are spent in frightful vigil with his mother, as squads of brigands stalk the village defended by only his father and fellow villagers. Despite this precarious existence, Hanna can imagine no other home... until an unimaginable tragedy strikes and life as he knows it abruptly ends. As his family splinters apart, Hanna is thrust into an odyssey of lurking dangers, dashed hopes and thwarted ambitions. He finds refuge in a seminary in Jerusalem, where, now known as Jonah, he can cherish his heritage and new identity. Yet this sanctuary is also snatched away when Jonah finds himself caught in the crossfire of the Holy City's unholy wars. Banished back to Istanbul, Jonah narrowly escapes a campaign of purges by the feared Turkish secret service. Resorting to a fugitive subsistence in foreign lands, a despondent Jonah is recruited by his former rival to join a clandestine group. With the specter of a hellish existence in a Turkish prison as a constant threat, Jonah must choose between abandoning his principles to carry out a barbaric mission to exact revenge, or find a new path to pursue an improbable dream in the New World. Steeped in ancient rituals, Middle Eastern traditions and modern intrigue, Gray Wolves and White Doves is a unique, captivating story of a child's search for self amid rekindled feuds and the turmoil of a changing world.

Dawson is an entertaining story based on life after the Klondike Gold Rush. It is the story of a family who moves from a wilderness cabin in the forest, where they trapped fur, to a more suburban life. The couple inherit a home from their Aunt Bev, a long-time, Indigenous resident of Dawson. Folow the lives of Wendy and Jason, the new homeowners, as they continue the ways of their predecessor, entertaining family and friends who live and trap fur in the surrounding area. Share their adventure to Skagway, Alaska, as they accompany a barge of goods back to Dawson for their friend, Samuel. Black Hawk and White Dove is a story of love and adventure. The recently married, Indigenous couple begin their life together in a cabin deep in the forest. With help from their fellow trappers, the newlyweds learn how to survive in this harsh and unforgiving land. Follow Black Hawk and White Dove’s daily routines as they learn the ways of the bush and how nature controls the lives of those who live there. Both stories are fascinating tales, which truly capture the spirit of the Yukon. Readers are sure to enjoy these family adventures of life in a rugged land, filled with love and hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Part Synopsis of Pacific Odyssey Lane The book is something of a Travelogue with a deal of Adventure thrown in. It is also a multi-faceted Love Story. The setting is in the Far East Singapore, Borneo and New Guinea (or more properly today Irian Barat) and briefly in Papua. The period is around 1970 to 1980ish although this is a moveable feast according to the readers preference. The plot concerns Lane Martin, a pretty young English girl, and her husband Paul, an electronics wizard based in the Singapore offices of the British Electronics Corporation, a wholly fictitious business concern. The two are about to embark upon a lengthy holiday aboard the cruise liner Pacific Explorer. There is a lot of eating and drinking of good food, fine wines and - iron rations (!) scattered throughout the story, commencing with the famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Paul is an experienced pilot and owns his own Cessna 172, 4-seater aeroplane in which they fly, via Kuching, to join ship in Banjarmasin. Pilots will hopefully fly with them, whereas non-pilots will have an insight into the marvels of aviation and, who knows, some may take up the past-time? Those who have no experience of Maritime voyaging may well enjoy the luxuries of life aboard the Pacific Explorer, perhaps even those who do have the experience might find, somehow, a kinship with the passengers. If you have been crew you will know what it costs to provide both former and latter with the pampering entailed. However, our passengers are clearly enjoying the amenities of the ship and the wonderful ports they visit. Sadly, even the best must bow to the likes of a short, swarthy man of middle-eastern appearance. I wont spoil the fun. Suffice it to say our intrepids, Lane and Paul, find themselves, quite suddenly, in a different sort of boat. Now they must learn the art of survival under extremes of conditions. Lane has lost her sight, how is in the story! And this is where the excitement really begins.....

Book excerpt: Enden has been peaceful for many years except for the few border raids by the Races of Chaos, mostly by the Saurians. In the background are the Elden, a race of warriors who opposed Chaos on rare occasions. So rare that the Elden have been considered just a legend. The Elden Warlord, Cahan MacHaimheirgin, is given information about the new Saurian Outposts that are being built. Although the Saurians give the appearance of just fortifying their border there are strong indications the outposts are much more than they appear. At a meeting of the leaders of the Races of Order, the Elden are requested to reoccupy their old Holds, vacant for five hundred years, and reestablish a presence that could deter a Saurian invasion that would plunge Enden into war. The Bursh, a race of sorcerers, allied with the Races of Chaos, are concerned about a Saurian invasion as well for it could endanger the future Master Plan of World Conquest, a plan that is sponsored by the Race of Demons, leaders of Chaos. The plan could fail if the Elden reestablish a presence. The Bursh need to find the Holds and a way to neutralize them and the Elden.

Abel Strawn, one of Jack Leffingwell's sharpshooters, has an opportunity to acquire land in the western Kansas Territory. On the surface, it seems like a good opportunity for him and his wife, Amanda. At the moment, they live with the senior Strawns in the Methodist Minister's parsonage. Abel functions as assistant minister. Settling in Kansas would give them land and a home of their own. Trusting in the wisdom of Jack Leffingwell and encouraged by his friend's approval, Abel and Amanda began the arduous journey in a prairie schooner. The year was 1869, in the midst of the Indian wars. It is a life-changing adventure for all concerned. A host of interesting characters intertwine with the young pioneers, most of whom grow into a lifelong influence. Falling Water, a Cheyenne Indian chief; his sister, White Dove; and a troubled hero by the name of Zachary Wheat become a part of the story and keep the pages turning.

Seeking a home where her children won't be held back by ethnicity or gender, Rhoda brings Em and Teo to Ethiopia, and all three fall in love with the beautiful, peaceful country. But that peace is shattered by the threat of war with Italy, and teenage Em and Teo are drawn into the conflict. Will their devotion to their country, its culture and people, and each other be their downfall or their salvation? In the tradition of her award-winning and bestselling Code Name Verity, Elizabeth Wein brings us another thrilling and deeply affecting novel that explores the bonds of friendship, the resilience of young pilots, and the strength of the human spirit.

Book excerpt: Rebecca Wainwright is fifteen years old in 1866 when her family travels west on the Oregon Trail. The journey is difficult, tedious, and at times, dangerous. They cross swollen rivers, endure severe storms, and Indian attack. While the wagon train continues on to Oregon, the Wainwright family stops and settles in Nebraska. They build a sod home and farm the land. Rebecca and her family endure many hardships on the windswept prairie: fierce snowstorms, voracious wolves, and prairie fire. In the spring of 1867, the Wainwrights are attacked by a party of Lakota Indians and Rebecca is taken captive. Her fear is nearly overwhelming and she wonders what these savages may have in store for her. Her captor, a young, handsome warrior, brings her to a woman in his own village to become the woman's daughter. Rebecca learns the Lakota language and way of life, realizing she has had many misconceptions about the Indians. She learns they are loving, caring people who only want to be left alone by the whites. She falls in love with the young, handsome warrior and they are married in the Lakota tradition. She begins to see the destruction of the native people, their lands stolen and desecrated, the buffalo slaughtered, and the tribes forced onto reservations. She witnesses the Indian people fighting back against white aggression, and becoming a hunted and hated people in their own country.

Book excerpt: Toward the end of the first decade of the new millennium, many people felt a sense of urgency, almost that time was running out. The world is still here five years on, but for many, 2012 was a year of great change. For author Amanda McLeod, 2012 was marked by a series of events and upheavals that changed her life forever. That year, she lost two of the most precious souls in her life, experienced a health scare, had an operation, was made redundant in her full-time job of nearly ten years, and nearly saw the end of her marriage. As a result, McLeod found herself with a new and different sense of purposefirst, to share her story, and second, to live fearlessly and without stress, still a work in progress. In this personal narrative, she describes her pilgrimage back to her homeland under very unusual circumstances, revisiting her childhood and events throughout her life, leading up to her return home. The result is a tapestry of people and places that were intricately and magically woven into the fabric of her life. In this memoir, one woman shares the true story of a bizarre and unexpected journey back to her homeland, exploring the divine guidance that made it possible.
