Book Synopsis Retinal and Choroidal Imaging in Systemic Diseases by : Jay Chhablani
Download or read book Retinal and Choroidal Imaging in Systemic Diseases written by Jay Chhablani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the underlying rationale for retinal and choroidal imaging in the context of systemic diseases. Various systemic diseases involve the eyes, and for some, the eyes could provide the first clue to their presence. Advances in posterior segment imaging have significantly improved our understanding of the pathophysiology and management of posterior segment diseases. However, imaging techniques like enhanced depth imaging, oximetry, adaptive optics, and retinal blood flowmetry have remained largely unexplored in connection with systemic diseases. Enhancing the available literature on the use of such imaging techniques for various systemic diseases, this handbook will help readers understand their pathomechanisms, supporting early diagnosis and more targeted therapeutic approaches. As such, it offers an essential resource for ophthalmologists, especially those with predominantly vitreo-retinal and uvea experience.

Book Synopsis Retinal and Choroidal Vascular Changes and Systemic Diseases in Rats by : T. Amemiya
Download or read book Retinal and Choroidal Vascular Changes and Systemic Diseases in Rats written by T. Amemiya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retinal and choroidal vasculatures are easily affected by various systemic diseases, and changes in the retina can easily be observed with various procedures such as direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein fundus angiography, and indocyanin green fundus angiography. Vascular changes are the major, most prominent, and most important fundus changes. The above-mentioned procedures can reveal vascular changes clearly, but mainly reveal changes in the superficial layer of the retina. In addition, these procedures cannot show the three-dimensional architecture of the retina. Usually we can barely obtain the view of that three dimensional architecture. At the same time, pathological findings are well described, but most of them are based on histological and cytological methods. Thus, three-dimensional description of pathology is rare. Vascular corrosion cast scanning electron microscopy can provide a very useful three-dimensional view of the microvasculature and can demonstrate the fine structural architecture of the capillary network. However, the application of this method to the retinal and choroidal vasculature is very difficult, especially in small eyes. We succeeded in making good corrosion casts of retinal and choroidal vessels in the rat. Using this method during the past 10 years we have examined the retinal and choroidal vascular architecture of rats with various systemic diseases such as aging, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and arteriosclerosis.

Book Synopsis Retinal and Choroidal Vascular Changes and Systemic Diseases in Rats by : T Amemiya
Download or read book Retinal and Choroidal Vascular Changes and Systemic Diseases in Rats written by T Amemiya and published by . This book was released on 2003-04-23 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vascular changes that occur in the human retina and choroid have frequently been studied through the use of light microscopy. This technique has marked limitations, however, in that it shows changes only in limited localized sites, often with the effects of various systemic diseases indistinguishable. Newer techniques of corrosion cast scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy provide a much clearer three-dimensional view of retinal and choroidal vasculatures, the results of which will be useful for the interpretation of ocular fundus changes seen in individual systemic diseases. Retinal and choroidal vascular changes due to aging, arteriosclerosis, spontaneous hypertension, and diabetes mellitus in the rat have been investigated and are described in this book, which will be of interest to those in the fields of ophthalmology, anatomy, and pathology. This book is a leading source of information on the use of electron microscopy in a new field of interest. .

Book Synopsis Studies on Retinal and Choroidal Disorders by : Robert D. Stratton
Download or read book Studies on Retinal and Choroidal Disorders written by Robert D. Stratton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-17 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies on Retinal and Choroidal Disorders examines the role that oxidative and nitrosative stress plays in the complex physiology and pathophysiology of the retina and choroid. Both the basic science researcher and the clinical practitioner can use this book as a guide to the current understanding of retinal and choroidal cellular mechanisms involved in aging and disease. Beginning with a review of oxidative stress and inflammation in the pathoetiology of AMD and a review of the complement system in the retina, the book then takes a detailed look at oxidative stress in lipid metabolism and oxidized lipoproteins in the retina. It examines the anti-apoptotic activity of α-crystallins in the presence of glutathione, oxidative stress in the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, the role of iron in retinal disease, the mechanisms of pathological VEGF expression, NAPDH oxidase mechanisms, and Hepatocyte Growth Factor in oxidative stress in the retina. A detailed look at the Ccl2-/-/Cx3cr1-/- mouse model of AMD follows. Then a detailed examination of the systemic changes in AMD is followed by a discussion of cerium oxide nanoparticle reduction of oxidative stress. Two chapters discuss progenitor cells in the cause and treatment of retinal diseases including AMD and diabetic retinopathy. Natural compounds in the prevention and treatment of retinal diseases are exhaustively presented, followed by a chapter on serotonin 5-HT1A receptor agonists in oxidative stress of the retina. The current anti-VEGF treatment strategies of neovascular AMD are then given. The volume continues with a detailed look at nitric oxide and inducible nitric oxide synthase in retinal vascular disease, an explanation of an in vivo technique of studying the effect of lipid hydroperoxides on circulating leucocytes in the retina, an excellent review of oxidative stress in retinopathy of prematurity, and a look at VEGF induced oxidative stress in the retinal ganglion cell. The book ends with a detail examination of the role of carotenoids in retinal health and disease. These 31 chapters summarize what is known about oxidative stress in retinal and choroidal disorders. All those involved with degenerative diseases of the eye will find Studies on Retinal and Choroidal Disorders to be illuminating and comprehensive.

Download or read book Wide-Field Retinal Imaging in Adults and Children written by Seyhan Topbas and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wide-field retinal imaging has become an important standard of care imaging modality in many retinal disorders both in adults and children. The recently developed wide-field retinal imaging systems enable approximately 200° imaging of retina. In this chapter, we would like to review the use of wide-field retinal imaging in disorders such as retinal vascular diseases, uveal and retinal inflammatory diseases, intraocular tumors, peripheral retinal pathologies, and retinal disorders in children such as retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, and Coats\´ disease. Also, we would like to address the rapidly expanding role of peripheral retinal imaging in treating systemic diseases. The use of wide-field imaging technologies in screening, diagnosis, treatment, and documentation of retinal pathologies and the new information provided by wide-field angiography for retinal vascular diseases and macular problems will be discussed.
