Book excerpt: Law and Neurodiversity offers invaluable guidance on how autism research can inform juvenile justice policies in Canada and the United States. In Canada, the diversion of youth away from formal processing has fostered community-based strategies for serving those with autism. US policies rely more heavily on formal responses, often employing juvenile custody facilities. Building on a rigorous exploration of how assessment, rehabilitation, and community re-entry differ between the two countries, Law and Neurodiversity offers a much-needed comparative analysis of autism and juvenile justice policies on both sides of the forty-ninth parallel.
Book Synopsis Women and Gendered Violence in Canada by : Chris Bruckert
Download or read book Women and Gendered Violence in Canada written by Chris Bruckert and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2018-11-23 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violence against women is usually framed as an issue of interpersonal violence perpetuated by men. While domestic violence and sexual assault are significant social problems, such a narrow framing obscures the diversity of women’s experience, fails to illuminate the role social structures play, and excludes discussions of workplace and state violence. By drawing on a range of theoretical traditions emerging from feminism, criminology, and sociology, Women and Gendered Violence in Canada significantly expands the conversation on violence against women. The first section of the book develops the conceptual and contextual framework that informs the remainder of the text, and the following three sections are organized around types of victimization: interpersonal, labour site, and state. Each chapter ends with lists of suggested activities, and first person narratives are integrated throughout to personalize the material and issues being examined.

Book Synopsis Comparative School Law by : Ian Keith Falconer Birch
Download or read book Comparative School Law written by Ian Keith Falconer Birch and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1990 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparative School Law provides a succinct analysis of the developed systems of school law in ten countries and includes a chapter which reviews school law in the European Community. School law is strictly jurisdictional and the question is posed as to whether there is a trend towards an increase internationally in school law. In many countries educational problems have been controlled by statutory provisions with the courts playing an important role in framing judicial doctrine for the operation of school systems. This book tries to establish whether the development of school law has had parallels in various countries and whether important differences exist. School law is strictly national and often regional or local and each author has produced an informative study of the school systems in their individual countries based on the common themes of sources of school law, the legal structure of school systems, school administration, the duties and rights of parents, children and teachers, discipline and negligence or malpractice. In the concluding chapter the editors draw together the main points of this comparative study to present the current relationship between education and law.
