Have you switched to a modern translation to make it easier? Literary devices such as hyperbole and apocalyptic language appear frequently and may limit our understanding more than the translation. Most of the Bible is expressed in terms of covenant, an important concept that is also not well understood and which is seldom explained by our churches. If we fail to understand such concepts, we will be unlikely to fully appreciate the entire Bible. Those who would applaud our difficulty and would like to dismantle our belief system entirely may have attempted to discredit early Genesis more than any other portion of scripture. If Genesis 1:1 is not true, where does that leave the rest of the Bible? Did Jesus actually die for my sins? Is God, himself, a myth? If apparent conflicts go unresolved, it becomes easier to question the relevance of the entire Bible. The resolution of much of the difficulty lies in gaining an understanding of covenant creation. If you have ever thought that the Bible is full of errors, think again. It was not written to people in the culture of the 21st century western world. It was written to a people who lived 2,000 or more years ago in a culture which had a different way of thinking, of using words, and even numbers. I hope to show that the Bible is highly accurate and relevant for today's reader. To understand it the way the original hearers would have, we must get inside the mind of the ancient near easterner. This book attempts to bring the Bible into focus for today. It is not necessary to change its teaching or to alter doctrine. However, gaining an understanding for today requires a new way of looking at it. I hope to make that possible for you, today's 21st century western reader.

Most seem to place the greatest emphasis on understanding the historical aspects of that event. Restarting Exodus will take a different approach. The emphasis will be on understanding the spiritual picture being presented. While most people understand that the Exodus is telling of the great spiritual deliverance of the Hebrews, they underestimate the degree to which the spiritual is incorporated. Here you will find the Exodus to have been “restarted” using covenant theology. The covenant view will cause many portions of the Exodus to come alive with fresh ideas and an understanding from the theological perspective. If you want to read a book based on traditional thinking, this is the wrong book. Only read this book if you are interested in a fresh look into the Exodus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of Academic Theology, there are many competing views. But are any truly consistent from cover to cover? Do any of the dominant positions apply a consistent narrative-honoring approach from the first page of Genesis to the last page of Revelation? The Fulfilled Eschatological view has been growing rapidly over the past two centuries. People are realizing that Jesus and His disciples made some very clear and undeniable promises to the people living in that last days generation. The Old Covenant was coming to a close and soon the Old Heaven and Earth would pass away precisely when the Mosaic Law passed away, according to Jesus Himself. With this newfound clarity, and with our once held end times views being shattered, are we honestly able to say that Genesis creation does not deserve another look? If the end of the story pertains only to the de-creation of Israel as a Covenant people, wouldn't it make sense that the start of that same story is concerned with the Genesis of Israel as a Covenant people? Why would the start of the story describe the material creation of the cosmos, but the end of the story describe the destruction of the Old Covenant? In this unique work, DeCosta attacks this very topic from numerous angles while showing the consistency and fluidity of the bible from cover to cover. Knitting and weaving together countless passages, this book brings clarity to many once dark and cloudy areas of scripture. This collection of dozens of topical studies will flesh out and shed new light on the curse of Adam, the language and imagery of the bible, the incredible consistency from Genesis to Revelation, and more. Reading this work is as if you are sitting around the kitchen table having a discussion with the author himself. There is truly no other book in Christendom that will offer what this book does. Be prepared to be challenged in a most enjoyable way!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creation in Six Days offers an exegetical, literary, and theological defense of the traditional interpretation of the Genesis account of six-day creation. Jordan's account is primarily designed to answer any approach to the text of Genesis, such as the increasingly popular Framework Hypothesis, that pits the text's literary features against its historical and narrative sense. Beyond his exegetical critique of several prominent positions, Jordan offers a constructive reading of the early parts of Genesis and also seeks to uncover the assumptions which attract people to the Framework Interpretation and similar views. The explanation, he says, lies in the acceptance of many of the questionable assumptions of modern science on the part of most Christians today, coupled with the pervasiveness of a gnostic or nonhistorical attitude toward the Christian faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian apologist Ben Smith believes that the creation account in Genesis 1 can be read literally and historically as a real week of seven normal days without contradicting modern astronomy and geology regarding the age of the universe and Earth. Many Christians are divided over how to reconcile Genesis with modern science, and this book evaluates all of the major options, ultimately concluding that the Bible allows for an old universe and Earth in a way that is also scientifically accurate. A former Young Earth creationist, Smith now believes that the age of creation is not specified in the Bible, and therefore scientists are free to answer the question. He believes that Christians should not hide from the controversy over the age of the Earth, but should take a fresh look at the text and be impressed with its accuracy.

Children brought up in a Christian home are 45% less likely to turn to crime, than those in non-Christian homes. It really made me wonder. I took a semester of law through Queens University about 55 years ago and in it they mentioned that our current laws are based on the Mosaic laws and the laws of Hammurabi. When I started this study about 20 years ago, I was going to prove Science wrong. After reading the Bible in six different translations and taking about fifty university courses through “The Teaching Co” (www.teach12.com) I found that different Denominations interpret the Bible Quite differently. In my book I have tried to bring Christianity and science together as Companions rather than adversaries.

Some references to it have been positive, some negative. It appears to be important, and they'd like to know more about it. But they want a full, understandable explanation, not a simplistic one. What Is Reformed Theology? is an accessible introduction to beliefs that have been immensely influential in the evangelical church. In this insightful book, R. C. Sproul walks readers through the foundations of the Reformed doctrine and explains how the Reformed belief is centered on God, based on God's Word, and committed to faith in Jesus Christ. Sproul explains the five points of Reformed theology and makes plain the reality of God's amazing grace.

Do the various biblical authors portray creation theologies that align or diverge? In this volume, the first of two, ten scholars--each addressing a different section, genre or topic from the Old Testament--grapple seriously with this question. Collectively, they find that the weight of the textual data of the Old Testament clearly portrays an overarching understanding and theology of creation that permeates every biblical genre and book. These findings should inform the thinking of every honest Christian, whether layperson, theologian, or scientist. At its core, creation theology is all about Who God is, who we are, what our destiny is, and how God chooses to save a world that is in direct rebellion to its Creator." -- Back Cover.

Book excerpt: World missions needs a fully biblical ethos. This is the contention of the editors of and contributors to World Mission, a series of essays aimed at reforming popular approaches to missions. In the first set of essays, contributors develop a biblical theology of world missions from both the Old and New Testaments, arguing that the theology of each must stand in the foreground of missions, not recede into the background. In the second, they unfold the Great Commission in sequence, detailing how it determines the biblical strategy of all mission enterprises. Finally, they treat current issues in world missions from the perspective of the sufficiency of Scripture. Altogether, this book aims to reform missions to be thoroughlyâ€"not just foundationallyâ€"biblical, a needed correction even among the sincerest missionaries.

Book excerpt: Conflict between science and the Bible has no validity, and no other passage has been debated between believers and nonbelievers as much as the first three chapters of Genesis. At least that's what author Wendell Ford, engineer and veteran student of creation, believes. Ford draws from his educational background in electrical engineering and over sixty years' worth of interest in theology as he looks at the creation account from a scientific and biblical perspective that deftly blends the two concepts in a way that is educational, insightful, and analytical. Genesis 1, 2, 3 and Beyond explores the facets of these much-debated and controversial beginnings of creation in three ways: to present scientific elements in the Bible that clearly support creation to expound on biblical elements in the Bible that preserve creation to preserve the element of faith that might be eroded by publicized clashes between mainstream scientists and biblical believers Readers of science and theology will be challenged and encouraged by Ford's ability to neatly explain why science is expressly seen throughout the powerful, creative beginnings of the world. Readers of the Bible and those who delight in seeing God's creation in action across the page will enjoy Ford's informative approach to science and the Bible in light of traditional creation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The battle lines have been drawn. Is the enemy winning? "Thanks to the theory of evolution," writes best-selling author John MacArthur, "naturalism is now the dominant religion of modern society. Less than a century and a half ago, Charles Darwin popularized the credo for this secular religion. Naturalism has now replaced Christianity as the main religion of the Western world, and evolution has become its principal dogma." Many Christians who claim to believe that the Bible is God's revealed truth seem willing to allow modern scientific theories to replace the Genesis account of creation. Such compromises present a conspicuous danger. Bible teacher and pastor, John MacArthur, believes that in Genesis 1-3 we find the foundation of every doctrine that is essential to the Christian faith?the vital underpinnings for everything we believe. The Battle for the Beginning draws a clear line on today's theological landscape. "Everything in Scripture that teaches about sin and redemption assumes the literal truth of the first three chapters of Genesis. If we wobble to any degree on the truth of this passage," John MacArthur insists, "we undermind the very foundations of our faith."
