Book excerpt: A brutal, no-holds-barred true story of life without limits—told by the past president of a maligned & misunderstood American motorcycle club. When Ruben Cavazos changed his clothes at daybreak, he was no longer a CAT scan technician at the University of Southern California Medical Center. He became the man known—and, in a few special cases, feared—as Doc, international president of the Mongols, the fastest-growing and most closely watched organization of its kind in the United States. In reality, the Mongols are a tightly knit band of brothers devoted in equal measure to their club, their fellow Mongols, and their freedom. They live to enjoy life, party, and travel the open road. Above all, they demand respect. When pushed too far, Mongols join together to push back. Just ask the Hells Angels, the Ukrainian mafia, the Mexican mafia, and the U.S. government, all of whom have tested the Mongols’ resolve. In Honor Few, Fear None, Doc is ready, for the first time, to share the stories of the Mongols’ continuing battle to survive and thrive against incredible odds—and sometimes terrible violence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Times have changed. America has been rural for years, but now is largely urban. In spite of this shifting, it is still surprising to discover how many people relate to their "grandparents farm". "I remember the farm" is usually stated with a sound of fondness. It is from that background of memories that the author has written this book on values. You can't avoid embracing some system of values. Even if you declare, "I choose to reject all values", you choose a value of your own freedom to reject. It is unavoidable. From the Garden of Eden and a tree of choice, to the Hill of Golgotha and the Old Rugged Tree (Cross), to the complexities of today, the values you choose mark your path of life. I believe the values lived by our fathers and mothers, many of them learned from the farm and the church, passed down to following generations, made America strong and a wonderful place to live. I encourage you to read this book and to ask the Lord for wisdom to apply these enduring truths for practical living in our age. They will guide our paths and help make us strong again. Farmstrong.

Book excerpt: Many Indiana University fans have heard the name Branch McCracken, after whom the hallowed court at Assembly Hall is named, but how many of them know about the legendary coach himself? Before Tom Crean, before Bob Knight, IU basketball relied on this man to make the school famous for its hoops stars. And boy did he--with two national titles, four Big Ten titles, and numerous other accolades, McCracken defined Hoosier Hysteria for a generation. However, his greatest legacy remains the example of good character he set and the way he touched the lives of everyone around him. Fans remember him as the coach who helped IU break the color barrier in Big Ten basketball, and players remember him as a second father. If, as McCracken once wrote, "A coach is not paid in money or winning teams, but in the men his players become," he was a rich man, indeed. Branch McCracken made Indiana University basketball a force to be reckoned with, and this is his story.

Book excerpt: Some people have powers. Some people do not. And some people just might change the world. Sarah Robertson is one of those people. Sarah is no ordinary girl: she can control the weather with her emotions. But in Doolittle Falls where superheroes walk the streets (and fly over them), Sarah’s powers aren’t enough for admission to the prestigious Hero Academy. Not to mention that her mother is a notorious Supervillain and the archnemesis of America’s favorite Hero, Freedom Man. Instead of being accepted to the school of her dreams, Sarah is marked as an outcast with powers – a Misshape. Now she’s stuck with a ragtag group of fellow Misshapes, her dreams of heroism on hold indefinitely. Yet Sarah is determined to harness her powers to win a place at Hero Academy. But the path to greatness won’t be easy. Her brother’s rebellious streak is starting to wear thin, she has an intriguing (and smoking hot) new mentor, and an unexpected romance blooms with superstar Hero Freedom Boy. And when Doolittle Falls comes under threat of annihilation, Sarah has to prove there may be more to the Misshapes than everyone thinks. And she may just kick some Supervillain butt in the process.

Book excerpt: An amazing fact about the human condition is that every human has at least one natural talent that can be developed to excellence. The capacity for self-refinement and development is remarkable in humans once this natural talent(s) has been identified. When it comes to attaining excellence and greatness, therefore, no human is incapable. How is worldly success made? How do ordinary people become great? Is it luck, or perhaps destiny? Sophia's (wisdom's) fire answers these questions by resurrecting the greats, whose minds decorated our world, and whose words now demystify the pursuit of worldly success. The paths to greatness are daunting, and therein, even merit desires mercy. What better mercy than the wisdom of those who have been there and have conquered. In the pursuit of worldly success, there is only one person that matters - you, and only one time that matters - now. Regardless of your perception of the universe and your fundamental beliefs, you owe yourself the duty to succeed. All humans are unique and complex entities, with unique dreams and aspirations. Success starts when dreams meet light and aspirations meet action. The time is ripe to give light to your dreams - Sophia's fire.

Book excerpt: Most of us believe in information. Some believe in truths, while others believe in magic. Information is what we can see, truth is what we feel, and magic is what we instinctively know is true. On December 4th 1981 the president of the United States issued Executive Order 12333 concerning the activities of the intelligence community. Paragraph 2.11 of that order states; "No employee of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in assassination." But upon learning of the political ties and aspirations of one charismatic young entertainer and philanthropist, certain agencies broke that order in the fall of 1996 when the star was killed in a barrage of bullets fired by a confidential informant commissioned for just such an act. After a decade of silence the files have been unsealed and the shooter will now be revealed. Some call him a hero, others say he's a villain, and some even call him a god. The White Book provides a glimpse at man's perspectives of the cultural history of the United States: assassination, government cover-ups, and his perpetual pursuit of what sets us all free: the truth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This year marks the fiftieth year of my involvement in the sport of long-distance running. Looking back, I guess it started with a present under the Christmas tree in 1967. I was twelve years old. And inside a brightly wrapped box with ribbon and bow was a pair of Onitsuka Tiger training shoes. My parents found them on sale at the local weed and feed store, which just happened to carry shoes, for twelve dollars. They were white with blue and red piping. At the time, they were the fanciest pair of sneakers Id ever seen. I slipped them on my feet and found the shoes to my liking. Somewhere between presents and turkey dinner, I got the notion in my head to try the shoes out. I decided to run twelve times around our block, one loop for every year I was old. Thus began my running career. I never looked back. Little did I know, at the time, that the sport of distance running would take me around the world as an athlete and a coach. At the time, I also didnt realize the personal journey I would undergo. It has become a journey of mind, body, and spirit. Like life, it has been a journey of setbacks and successes. And somewhere along the way, my passion for running and writing merged. The late Dr. George Sheehan, author of Running & Being, stated, There are times when I am not sure whether I am a runner who writes, or a writer who runs. Either way, writing has become my way of preserving and making sense of running experiences. Each daily journeywhether it be running the forests, mountains, beaches, farmlands, deserts, towns, or rural neighborhoodshas provided inspiration for my writing. Other passions in my life have come and gone, but the pure joy of my breath, heartbeat, and footfall intermingling with the landscape has remained. I am now, and will always be, a runner. In their own way, this collection of over one thousand haiku tells a bit about myself, my life, and what I have come to know through the sport. There is something here for everyone passionate about long-distance running.
