This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first year of a two-year study into the stratigraphic and petrophysical controls on the distribution of economically-viable CMD (Cedar Mountain-Dakota) gas reservoirs in the Southern Uinta Basin. Preliminary observations that were made during this study are 1) the CDM interval can be correlated with confidence across the study area 2) the late Albian-early Cenomanian sand channels' reservoir quality decreases with depth and 3) coarse-grained valley-fill deposits of the lower Dakota Formation are the least risky targets for economic gas saturation north and west of the San Arroyo and Westwater areas -- back of jewel case.

Book Synopsis Cedar Mountain and Dakota Formations Around Dinosaur National Monument by : Douglas A. Sprinkel
Download or read book Cedar Mountain and Dakota Formations Around Dinosaur National Monument written by Douglas A. Sprinkel and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2012 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 20 page report describes the stratigraphy of the Cedar Mountain and Dakota formations in and around Dinosaur National Monument in northeast Utah and includes new palynology and radiometric age data. The contract between these formations is unconformable in which the Dakota formation has incised into the underlying Cedar Mountain formation. Locally, the Dakota includes a basal marine mudstone and shale unit that contains late Albian dinoflagellate cysts, which represents peak sea level during the Kiowa-Skull Creek depositional cycle and indicates the first marine incursion of the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway into Utah.
Book Synopsis Fluvial Facies and Architecture of the Poison Strip Sandstone Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation, Grand County, Utah by : Mathew W. Stikes

Stikes and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2007 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study characterizes and interprets the fluvial systems responsible for deposition of the Poison Strip sandstone through analysis of extensive field data and comparison to ancient fluvial systems. Conclusions on fluvial style are related to depositional controls and to regional Lower Cretaceous rocks.
Book Synopsis Redefining the Lower Cretaceous Stratigraphy Within the Central Utah Foreland Basin by : Douglas A. Sprinkel
Download or read book Redefining the Lower Cretaceous Stratigraphy Within the Central Utah Foreland Basin written by Douglas A. Sprinkel and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1999 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lower Cretaceous strata exposed in the foreland basin of central Utah were divided into two lithostratigraphic units, the Cedar Mountain and San Pitch Formations. Together these formations correlate with both the Cedar Mountain Formation exposed on the San Rafael Swell and the lower part of the Canyon Range Conglomerate exposed in the Canyon Mountains.

Book Synopsis Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah by : David D. Gillette
Download or read book Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah written by David D. Gillette and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1999 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 52 papers in this vary in content from summaries or state-of-knowledge treatments, to detailed contributions that describe new species. Although the distinction is subtle, the title (Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah) indicates the science of paleontology in the state of Utah, rather than the even more ambitious intent if it were given the title “Vertebrate Paleontology of Utah” which would promise an encyclopedic treatment of the subject. The science of vertebrate paleontology in Utah is robust and intense. It has grown prodigiously in the past decade, and promises to continue to grow indefinitely. This research benefits everyone in the state, through Utah’s muse ums and educational institutions, which are the direct beneficiaries.

Book Synopsis The Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation of Eastern Utah by : Roger D. Miller
Download or read book The Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation of Eastern Utah written by Roger D. Miller and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Early Cretaceous (Barremian-Albian) Burro Canyon Formation in Eastern Utah and Western Colorado is a dominantly fluvial system that resembles the Cedar Mountain Formation, a correlative unit that lies across the Colorado River and is famous for recent dinosaur discoveries, The Burro Canyon Formation is arbitrarily split from the Cedar Mountain Formation using the Colorado River as a dividing line. This non-stratigraphic means of splitting one unit from the other is largely due to convention and it has become entrenched in the literature. Sections measured on Hotel Mesa and Buckhorn Mesa, both in eastern Grand County, Utah, were made in order to better delineate the contact between the two formations in this remote area on the Uncompahgre Plateau. The section on Hotel Mesa is in the Poison Strip Sandstone Member of the Cedar Mountain Formation as demonstrated by correlation to nearby established measured sections. Multiple paleocurrents were taken on Buckhorn Mesa, along with three new measured sections. These measured sections and paleoflows were then used to determine whether these rocks are likely to be in the Burro Canyon Formation or the Cedar Mountain Formation. Facies were established for the outcrops, with preliminary facies associations then being developed and outlined on photographs. Analyses show that these fluvial sandstones on this edge of the Uncompahgre Plateau are all in the Poison Strip Sandstone Member of the Cedar Mountain Formation. Also, no other Early Cretaceous sediments are found on this entire portion of the Plateau, as illustrated using panoramic photographs.
Book Synopsis The Geologic Story of the Uinta Mountains by : Wallace Hansen
Download or read book The Geologic Story of the Uinta Mountains written by Wallace Hansen and published by Falcon Guides. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Other than the Brooks Range in Alaska, the Uintas are the most prominent east/west range in the United States. They also contain the highest mountains in Utah, many of which exceed 13,000 feet, including Kings Peak at 13,528 feet -- the highest point in Utah. There are well over 1,000 natural lakes and over 400 miles of streams in this 100-mile long range in northeastern Utah. While the intended scope of this book is fairly broad, the author presents the geologic story of the Uinta Mountains with a clarity and wit that gives this book a unique and popular appeal.
