This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the most comprehensive study to date of political and social developments in Montenegro from the processes that led to the disintegration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to Montenegro's eventful trajectory towards independence and, later, towards Euro-Atlantic integration. Kenneth Morrison draws upon an extensive range of primary and secondary sources to illuminate the key developments in Montenegro during three decades characterised by political, social and economic flux. Beginning with the 'happening of the people' in 1988 and concluding with a detailed analysis of political developments in the first decade since Montenegro gained its independence, the author addresses the themes of nationalism, identity, statehood and the party political dynamics in both the Montenegrin and the wider Southeast European context.

Book Synopsis Regional and National Elections in Eastern Europe by : Arjan H. Schakel
Download or read book Regional and National Elections in Eastern Europe written by Arjan H. Schakel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-11 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second of two studies which systematically explore territoriality of the vote in Europe. They investigate when and where voters treat regional elections differently from national contests and aim to increase our understanding of the dynamics of electoral competition, which have become increasingly multifarious and complex in many countries due to the establishment and strengthening of regional government. This volume brings together leading experts on elections who analyze differences between regional and national electoral outcomes in ten East European countries since 1990. Based on a common analytical framework, each chapter investigates congruence between regional and national elections and traces and explains second-order and regional election effects. The editors applied a similar analytical framework in Regional and National Elections in Western Europe (Palgrave, 2013) which focused on 13 West European countries, enabling the authors to compare regional electoral dynamics between Eastern and Western Europe and observe to what extent explanations for territorial heterogeneity in the vote in the West also apply to the East. This book will be of particular interest to advanced students and scholars in the fields of comparative politics, regional studies, Eastern-European politics, and democratization.

Book Synopsis Women's Individual Voting Rights by : Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe
Download or read book Women's Individual Voting Rights written by Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family voting is a patriarchal custom that allows men to vote with or for women family members, and this practice has been identified in several of the new European democracies by election observers since 1995. This custom deprives women of their right to a secret vote and contributes to their marginalisation in political life. This report explores this aspect of gender inequality in political systems and contains recommendations to combat it, including Recommendation 111 (2002) of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe on women's individual voting rights: a democratic requirement.
