Book excerpt: For thousands of years humanity has longed for a truth, revelation, or knowledge that explains the unity of God behind all mystical experiences, previous revelations, and religions of the world, and the truth behind the universe (science). There have been mystical explanations of God from those claiming they have experienced the truth by direct contact with Spirit. There are also those who have founded great religions of the world. However, a great confusion still reigns among spiritualists, religions of the world, and the many different branches within each religion. If you study this Book carefully, with a sincere mind and an Open Heart, it will be revealed to you that the major religions on earth are not contradictory and separated at all. In fact they are complementary and were sent to earth systematically by One God. When this is understood, the Path to Salvation (Eternal Divine Path) is known This book is the main writing of Maitreya of the Mission of Maitreya: www.maitreya.org

Book Synopsis Seeing Through the Veil by : Suzanne Conklin Akbari
Download or read book Seeing Through the Veil written by Suzanne Conklin Akbari and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the later Middle Ages, new optical theories were introduced that located the power of sight not in the seeing subject, but in the passive object of vision. This shift had a powerful impact not only on medieval science but also on theories of knowledge, and this changing relationship of vision and knowledge was a crucial element in late medieval religious devotion. In Seeing through the Veil, Suzanne Conklin Akbari examines several late medieval allegories in the context of contemporary paradigm shifts in scientific and philosophical theories of vision. After a survey on the genre of allegory and an overview of medieval optical theories, Akbari delves into more detailed studies of several medieval literary works, including the Roman de la Rose, Dante's Vita Nuova, Convivio, and Commedia, and Chaucer's dream visions and Canterbury Tales. The final chapter, 'Division and Darkness, ' centres on the legacy of allegory in the fifteenth century. Offering a new interdisciplinary, synthetic approach to late medieval intellectual history and to major works within the medieval literary canon, Seeing through the Veil will be an essential resource to the study of medieval literature and culture, as well as philosophy, history of art, and history of science.

Book Synopsis Notes From the Last Testament by : Michael Deibert
Download or read book Notes From the Last Testament written by Michael Deibert and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Notes from the Last Testament, by veteran reporter Michael Deibert, is a riveting narrative account of the events leading up to and including the overthrow of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. A fearless correspondent and a meticulous researcher, Deibert traces the rupturing of the social-democratic coalition that originally brought Aristide to power and that had been the fruit of years of opposition to the dictatorships and military juntas. From chaotic scenes of frenzied mayhem on the streets of the bidonvilles of Port-au-Prince with their armed gangs and burning intersections to heated debates in the halls of power, these dramatic events throw into stark relief the obstacles facing the world's nascent democracies, the trend of first world military intervention in third world affairs, and the dual legacies of slavery and colonialism. In a remarkable and deeply humane synthesis of on-the-ground perspectives and exhaustive research, Deibert sets vivid personal testimonies alongside an analysis of the country's rich history that reaches back to Haiti's first days as a colony, to the time of the rebellion led by the former slave Toussaint Louverture, and extends to the present, ultimately exploring how Aristide, once a beacon of populism and democratic aspirations, came to embody brutality and misrule in the tradition of his predecessors. Along the way, Deibert introduces us to the real heroes of the Hatian people's struggle for a just and independent society free from violence and corruption.

Book Synopsis The Last Days Are Left Behind by : James Ellis
Download or read book The Last Days Are Left Behind written by James Ellis and published by Wheatmark, Inc.. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you been wondering as a Christian, or non-Christian, what many think -- and expect -- will happen in the "last days" or "end times" with all the talk and focus in the headlines -- and some churches -- about our future? And with all the events taking place in the Middle East, especially Israel? And Iran? Are you confused because of various end-time scenarios and conflicting opinions promoted through popular books on prophecy, the Left Behind series, televangelists, preachers, and others speaking of a great tribulation, rapture, Armageddon, Apocalypse, the destruction of the earth, a new heaven and earth, a second coming, and a millennium? There has been an overload of teaching and information about these things over the last century -- however sincere and cloaked in good intentions -- yet with long-held and deep-seated traditions and doctrines, all borne of a lack of accurate knowledge (particularly the Hebrew and Greek) and information based on compelling evidence. Would you like to know what the Bible actually says about all these issues? For God's Word itself -- "Let Scripture Interpret Scripture" -- and the Holy Spirit are the only necessary interpreters. The Last Days Are Left Behind will challenge your thinking, help to erase the confusion, and provide clarity regarding the present-day purpose of God. Author James Ellis demonstrates end-time truth based logically on solid evidence after a linguistically accurate, biblically consistent, and intellectually honest examination of the Bible's prophetic passages and verses, the original languages -- Hebrew and Greek, the social, cultural, and historical context of Scripture, and the relevance of the audience spoken or written to in God's Word.

Book Synopsis The Cinema of Tarkovsky by : Nariman Skakov
Download or read book The Cinema of Tarkovsky written by Nariman Skakov and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-30 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of time was a central preoccupation of Tarkovsky throughout his career. His films present visions of time by temporal means - that is, in time. Tarkovsky does not represent time through coherent argument, Nariman Skakov proposes, rather he presents it and the viewer experiences the argument. This book explores the phenomenon of spatio-temporal lapse in Tarkovsky's cinema - from Ivan's Childhood (1962) to Sacrifice (1986). Dreams, visions, mirages, memories, revelations, reveries and delusions are phenomena which present alternative spatio-temporal patterns; they disrupt the linear progression of events and create narrative discontinuity. Each chapter is dedicated to the discussion of one of Tarkovsky's seven feature films and in each, one of these phenomena functions as a refrain. Skakov discusses the influence of the flow of and lapses in space and time on the viewer's perception of the Tarkovskian cinematic universe. He opens and closes his original and fascinating book on Tarkovsky's cinema by focusing on the phenomenon of time that is discussed extensively by the filmmaker in his main theoretical treatise Sculpting in Time, as well as in a number of interviews and public lectures.
