Book Synopsis Doing Q Methodological Research by : Simon Watts
Download or read book Doing Q Methodological Research written by Simon Watts and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2012-03-19 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a simple yet thorough introduction to Q methodology, a research technique designed to capture the subjective or first-person viewpoints of its participants. Watts and Stenner outline the key theoretical concepts developed by William Stephenson, the founder of Q methodology, including subjectivity, concourse theory and abduction. They then turn to the practicalities of delivering high quality Q methodological research. Using worked examples throughout, the reader is guided through: • important design issues • the conduct of fieldwork • all the analytic processes of Q methodology, including factor extraction, factor rotation and factor interpretation. Drawing on helpful conceptual introductions to potentially difficult statistical concepts and a step-by-step guide to running Q methodological analyses using dedicated software, this book enables interested readers to design, manage, analyse, interpret and publish their own Q methodological research.

Download or read book Algebra - Representation Theory written by Klaus W. Roggenkamp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-08-31 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades representation theory of groups, Lie algebras and associative algebras has undergone a rapid development through the powerful tool of almost split sequences and the Auslander-Reiten quiver. Further insight into the homology of finite groups has illuminated their representation theory. The study of Hopf algebras and non-commutative geometry is another new branch of representation theory which pushes the classical theory further. All this can only be seen in connection with an understanding of the structure of special classes of rings. The aim of this book is to introduce the reader to some modern developments in: Lie algebras, quantum groups, Hopf algebras and algebraic groups; non-commutative algebraic geometry; representation theory of finite groups and cohomology; the structure of special classes of rings.

Book Synopsis Schrödinger Equations and Diffusion Theory by : Masao Nagasawa
Download or read book Schrödinger Equations and Diffusion Theory written by Masao Nagasawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schrödinger Equations and Diffusion Theory addresses the question “What is the Schrödinger equation?” in terms of diffusion processes, and shows that the Schrödinger equation and diffusion equations in duality are equivalent. In turn, Schrödinger’s conjecture of 1931 is solved. The theory of diffusion processes for the Schrödinger equation tells us that we must go further into the theory of systems of (infinitely) many interacting quantum (diffusion) particles. The method of relative entropy and the theory of transformations enable us to construct severely singular diffusion processes which appear to be equivalent to Schrödinger equations. The theory of large deviations and the propagation of chaos of interacting diffusion particles reveal the statistical mechanical nature of the Schrödinger equation, namely, quantum mechanics. The text is practically self-contained and requires only an elementary knowledge of probability theory at the graduate level. --- This book is a self-contained, very well-organized monograph recommended to researchers and graduate students in the field of probability theory, functional analysis and quantum dynamics. (...) what is written in this book may be regarded as an introduction to the theory of diffusion processes and applications written with the physicists in mind. Interesting topics present themselves as the chapters proceed. (...) this book is an excellent addition to the literature of mathematical sciences with a flavour different from an ordinary textbook in probability theory because of the author’s great contributions in this direction. Readers will certainly enjoy the topics and appreciate the profound mathematical properties of diffusion processes. (Mathematical Reviews)

Book Synopsis A Mathematical Approach to Proportional Representation: Duncan Black on Lewis Carroll by : Iain S. McLean
Download or read book A Mathematical Approach to Proportional Representation: Duncan Black on Lewis Carroll written by Iain S. McLean and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-07 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `This is a book about a well-known writer, Lewis Carroll, and about a little-known subject, the theory of voting' (from the Editors' Introduction). This book has been edited from the manuscripts of the late Scottish economist Duncan Black. Shortly after the publication of The Theory of Committees and Elections Black started to collect material for papers and a book on Lewis Carroll's theory of proportional representation. Black's chapter plans made it clear that the book was to be in three parts, written by himself, followed by a reprint of Carroll's Principles of Parliamentary Representation and its main sources. Part I is biographical, introducing Lewis Carroll and giving relevant details of his life. Part II is Black's already published work on Lewis Carroll. Part III comprises the more detailed arguments about Carroll's reasoning, and Part IV contains reprints of rare original material on proportional representation by Carroll, James Garth Marshall, and Walter Baily. Taken together, the editors have provided a complete reference source for the theory of voting and proportional representation.
