This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the last of three major volumes which present a comprehensive treatment of the theory of the main classes of special functions from the point of view of the theory of group representations. This volume deals with q-analogs of special functions, quantum groups and algebras (including Hopf algebras), and (representations of) semi-simple Lie groups. Also treated are special functions of a matrix argument, representations in the Gel'fand-Tsetlin basis, and, finally, modular forms, theta-functions and affine Lie algebras. The volume builds upon results of the previous two volumes, and presents many new results. Subscribers to the complete set of three volumes will be entitled to a discount of 15%.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of three major volumes which present a comprehensive treatment of the theory of the main classes of special functions from the point of view of the theory of group representations. This volume deals with the properties of classical orthogonal polynomials and special functions which are related to representations of groups of matrices of second order and of groups of triangular matrices of third order. This material forms the basis of many results concerning classical special functions such as Bessel, MacDonald, Hankel, Whittaker, hypergeometric, and confluent hypergeometric functions, and different classes of orthogonal polynomials, including those having a discrete variable. Many new results are given. The volume is self-contained, since an introductory section presents basic required material from algebra, topology, functional analysis and group theory. For research mathematicians, physicists and engineers.

Book Synopsis Groups and Geometric Analysis by : Sigurdur Helgason
Download or read book Groups and Geometric Analysis written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, the second of Helgason's impressive three books on Lie groups and the geometry and analysis of symmetric spaces, is an introduction to group-theoretic methods in analysis on spaces with a group action. The first chapter deals with the three two-dimensional spaces of constant curvature, requiring only elementary methods and no Lie theory. It is remarkably accessible and would be suitable for a first-year graduate course. The remainder of the book covers more advanced topics, including the work of Harish-Chandra and others, but especially that of Helgason himself. Indeed, the exposition can be seen as an account of the author's tremendous contributions to the subject.Chapter I deals with modern integral geometry and Radon transforms. The second chapter examines the interconnection between Lie groups and differential operators. Chapter IV develops the theory of spherical functions on semisimple Lie groups with a certain degree of completeness, including a study of Harish-Chandra's $c$-function. The treatment of analysis on compact symmetric spaces (Chapter V) includes some finite-dimensional representation theory for compact Lie groups and Fourier analysis on compact groups. Each chapter ends with exercises (with solutions given at the end of the book!) and historical notes. This book, which is new to the AMS publishing program, is an excellent example of the author's well-known clear and careful writing style. It has become the standard text for the study of spherical functions and invariant differential operators on symmetric spaces. Sigurdur Helgason was awarded the Steele Prize for Groups and Geometric Analysis and the companion volume, ""Differential Geometry, Lie Groups and Symmetric Spaces.""

Book Synopsis Harmonic Analysis and Representations of Semisimple Lie Groups by : J.A. Wolf
Download or read book Harmonic Analysis and Representations of Semisimple Lie Groups written by J.A. Wolf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the text of the lectures which were given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Representations of Lie groups and Harmonic Analysis which was held in Liege from September 5 to September 17, 1977. The general aim of this Summer School was to give a coordinated intro duction to the theory of representations of semisimple Lie groups and to non-commutative harmonic analysis on these groups, together with some glance at physical applications and at the related subject of random walks. As will appear to the reader, the order of the papers - which follows relatively closely the order of the lectures which were actually give- follows a logical pattern. The two first papers are introductory: the one by R. Blattner describes in a very progressive way a path going from standard Fourier analysis on IR" to non-commutative harmonic analysis on a locally compact group; the paper by J. Wolf describes the structure of semisimple Lie groups, the finite-dimensional representations of these groups and introduces basic facts about infinite-dimensional unitary representations. Two of the editors want to thank particularly these two lecturers who were very careful to pave the way for the later lectures. Both these chapters give also very useful guidelines to the relevant literature.
Book Synopsis Complex Semisimple Quantum Groups and Representation Theory by : Christian Voigt
Download or read book Complex Semisimple Quantum Groups and Representation Theory written by Christian Voigt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough introduction to the theory of complex semisimple quantum groups, that is, Drinfeld doubles of q-deformations of compact semisimple Lie groups. The presentation is comprehensive, beginning with background information on Hopf algebras, and ending with the classification of admissible representations of the q-deformation of a complex semisimple Lie group. The main components are: - a thorough introduction to quantized universal enveloping algebras over general base fields and generic deformation parameters, including finite dimensional representation theory, the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt Theorem, the locally finite part, and the Harish-Chandra homomorphism, - the analytic theory of quantized complex semisimple Lie groups in terms of quantized algebras of functions and their duals, - algebraic representation theory in terms of category O, and - analytic representation theory of quantized complex semisimple groups. Given its scope, the book will be a valuable resource for both graduate students and researchers in the area of quantum groups.
Book Synopsis Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions by : N.Ja. Vilenkin

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1991-1993 our three-volume book "Representation of Lie Groups and Spe cial Functions" was published. When we started to write that book (in 1983), editors of "Kluwer Academic Publishers" expressed their wish for the book to be of encyclopaedic type on the subject. Interrelations between representations of Lie groups and special functions are very wide. This width can be explained by existence of different types of Lie groups and by richness of the theory of their rep resentations. This is why the book, mentioned above, spread to three big volumes. Influence of representations of Lie groups and Lie algebras upon the theory of special functions is lasting. This theory is developing further and methods of the representation theory are of great importance in this development. When the book "Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions" ,vol. 1-3, was under preparation, new directions of the theory of special functions, connected with group representations, appeared. New important results were discovered in the traditional directions. This impelled us to write a continuation of our three-volume book on relationship between representations and special functions. The result of our further work is the present book. The three-volume book, published before, was devoted mainly to studying classical special functions and orthogonal polynomials by means of matrix elements, Clebsch-Gordan and Racah coefficients of group representations and to generaliza tions of classical special functions that were dictated by matrix elements of repre sentations.
Book Synopsis Groupes et symétries by : Yvette Kosmann-Schwarzbach
Download or read book Groupes et symétries written by Yvette Kosmann-Schwarzbach and published by Editions Ecole Polytechnique. This book was released on 2005 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Synopsis Kähler Immersions of Kähler Manifolds into Complex Space Forms by : Andrea Loi
Download or read book Kähler Immersions of Kähler Manifolds into Complex Space Forms written by Andrea Loi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to describe Calabi's original work on Kähler immersions of Kähler manifolds into complex space forms, to provide a detailed account of what is known today on the subject and to point out some open problems. Calabi's pioneering work, making use of the powerful tool of the diastasis function, allowed him to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a neighbourhood of a point to be locally Kähler immersed into a finite or infinite-dimensional complex space form. This led to a classification of (finite-dimensional) complex space forms admitting a Kähler immersion into another, and to decades of further research on the subject. Each chapter begins with a brief summary of the topics to be discussed and ends with a list of exercises designed to test the reader's understanding. Apart from the section on Kähler immersions of homogeneous bounded domains into the infinite complex projective space, which could be skipped without compromising the understanding of the rest of the book, the prerequisites to read this book are a basic knowledge of complex and Kähler geometry.
