Nous pensons, en effet, qu'en tant que moyen d'expression privilégié de l'enfant, son utilisation permettrait, au sein d'une relation authentique, de l'amener à rendre "verbale" sa parole graphique. C'est alors, à partir d'un intérêt commun (le dessin), qu'une communication verbale peut s'établir et amener ainsi l'enfant à s'exprimer librement et à l'orthophoniste de venir étayer ce langage produit. Nous avons, pour cette étude, abordé le langage et le dessin dans leurs caractéristiques les plus générales (histoire, développement, pathologie) mais aussi selon un point de vue plus orthophonique en insistant sur la fonction de communication essentielle qui les caractérise. Nous avons également proposé une certaine approche de la prise en charge des troubles du langage en décrivant la notion de symptôme et en citant différentes manières de l'aborder. Notre population concerne 12 enfants de 5 à 7 ans ayant un retard de langage et suivis en orthophonie. Notre protocole a consisté à voir ces enfants régulièrement (tous les 15 jours) pendant 4 mois environ pour réaliser une séance uniquement consacrée au dessin. Sur un total de 68 séances, nous avons pu valider notre hypothèse de départ et montrer que l'utilisation du dessin, au sein d'une prise en charge orthophonique, permettait à la majorité des enfants d'améliorer leur langage tant en expression qu'en compréhension. Plus précisément, nous avons pu mettre en évidence, grâce aux différentes épreuves de langage, que les enfants avaient enrichi, mais aussi structuré leur langage. Nous avons fait également le même constat en ce qui concerne la représentation et la structuration graphique de leurs dessins.

Book excerpt: Dans le cadre de ce travail de fin d’études, il nous a semblé intéressant d’aborder les retards de langage non pas du seul point de vue de la rééducation orthophonique. En effet, il nous est apparu au cours de notre expérience pratique que ces troubles de l’acquisition langagière ne représentaient pas une entité isolée. La composante motrice qui fait partie de la clinique des retards de langage se révèle bien souvent négligée lorsqu’une rééducation est entreprise. Dans notre partie théorique nous avons voulu attester de l’intrication entre le corps et le langage et par là même des deux disciplines qui les traitent: la psychomotricité et l’orthophonie. La psychomotricité, comme l’orthophonie, est une discipline au carrefour du neurologique, du linguistique et du psychologique. Elle vise à établir un fonctionnement harmonieux du corps et de l’esprit. Ainsi, le mouvement et le psychisme doivent être envisagés comme deux expressions au sein d’un même processus, pour une adaptation efficace au milieu environnant. Les principales notions rencontrées en psychomotricité sont : le corps, les actions, l’espace et le temps. Ces notions se retrouvent en orthophonie du point de vue du langage. D’autre part, la constitution du sujet se fait par le corps dans un premier temps, puis par le langage, ce qui montre bien les forts liens entre psychomotricité et orthophonie. Dans notre partie théorique, nous avons également précisé le domaine que nous souhaitions étudier plus particulièrement dans les retards de langage : la syntaxe, et nous l’avons mis en parallèle avec un domaine précis de la psychomotricité: les gestes. Nous postulions que l’enchaînement verbal pouvait être comparé à l’enchaînement gestuel. Dans notre partie pratique, nous avons soumis deux groupes d’enfants à des épreuves étalonnées: le groupe expérimental suivait une double prise en charge en orthophonie et en psychomotricité, et le groupe témoin suivait une prise en charge seulement en orthophonie. Les épreuves choisies concernaient pour la psychomotricité : le repérage dans l’espace, le schéma corporel, l’habileté, l’organisation séquentielle des gestes , et pour l’orthophonie : des récits à partir d’images et des complétions de phrases. Nous avons comparé leur évolution en leur faisant repasser la même série d’épreuves quatre mois plus tard. Les résultats qui sont apparus ont montré de meilleurs progrès pour la syntaxe chez les enfants qui bénéficiaient de la double prise en charge en psychomotricité et en orthophonie. Nous avons donc pu confirmer notre hypothèse de travail selon laquelle la psychomotricité influence de manière positive la syntaxe dans les retards de langage. Cependant, nous avons été confrontée à certains biais : la difficulté de constitution de l’échantillon expérimental et la courte durée d’évolution entre les deux passations. Une étude longitudinale qui suivrait les rééducations de bout en bout permettrait sans doute d’asseoir les résultats trouvés ici. D’autre part, des pistes de recherche ont été mises en évidence : les troubles déficitaires de l’attention constituaient de manière quasi systématique la toile de fond des retards de langage, s’accompagnant fréquemment de troubles de l’équilibre ou d’une maladresse. Ces indices qui ne faisaient pas partie de l’objet initial de cette étude sont évidemment à prendre en compte lorsque l’on s’engage dans la prise en charge d’un retard de langage.
