This book was released on 2021-10-13 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with all the cases that came before the Permanent Court of International Justice (PCIJ) from 1922 to 1946, as well as those that were heard by its successor, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) from 1946 to 2020 in which interim measures of protection were either indicated or refused. The monograph shows how cases in which injunctive relief was sought were handled and how the PCIJ and the ICJ have undergone certain reforms over the years. The new approach taken by the author is to present all the matters brought before both the PCIJ and ICJ in full and to present the new requirements on the part of the ICJ that have been formulated in recent years. The book is aimed at law students, lecturers and those working in the field of international law. Ewa Sałkiewicz-Munnerlyn was a Polish diplomat working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1991 to 2018. She was appointed charge d’affaires at the Polish Embassy to the Holy See from 1993-1994, after which she served as the Polish consul at the Consular Division of the Polish Embassy in Washington D.C. from 1995-1999. She then held the position of Human Rights Officer of the OSCE in Macedonia (Skopje and Ohrid) and Bosnia and Hercegovina (Pale in Republika Srbska) from 2001-2005 and has also several times worked as a short-term observer of the OSCE during parliamentary and presidential elections in Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Belarus. She attained a Ph.D. at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland and a post-graduate diploma at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland.

Book Synopsis Sea-Bed Energy and Minerals: The International Legal Regime by : E D Brown
Download or read book Sea-Bed Energy and Minerals: The International Legal Regime written by E D Brown and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first book in a three-volume work on Sea-Bed Energy and Minerals: The International Legal Regime is concerned with the law governing the exploitation of energy and mineral resources in two quite different sub-marine areas. Volume 1 deals with the areas within the limits of national jurisdiction, that is, all of the submarine areas extending from the coast to the seaward limit of the continental shelf. As its subtitle indicates, this volume is predominantly concerned with The Continental Shelf. Although the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea has still not entered into force, and, indeed, may not do so for many years for some of the major maritime powers, its adoption in 1982 did, nonetheless, usher in a period of relative stability in the rules governing the areas within national jurisdiction, including, in particular, the continental shelf. However, being the creatures of compromise, some of its rules are undeniably vague and it has been left to State practice and international courts and tribunals to develop these rules further, especially those relating to the delimitation of the continental shelf between neighbouring States. Volume 1 provides an analysis of the rules of conventional and custromary law in the light of this practice. Volume 2, on Sea-Bed Mining, deals with the area beyond the limits of national jurisdiction, that is, the submarine area lying seaward of the outer limit of the continental shelf. Volume 3, which will be published at the same time as Volume 2, will provide Documents, Tables and Bibliography relating to the subject matter of the first two volumes.
Book Synopsis The Statute of the International Court of Justice by : Andreas Zimmermann
Download or read book The Statute of the International Court of Justice written by Andreas Zimmermann and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-10-11 with total page 1798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and plays a central role in both the peaceful settlement of international disputes and the development of international law. This comprehensive Commentary on the Statute of the International Court of Justice, now in its second edition, analyses in detail not only the Statute of the Court itself but also the related provisions of the United Nations Charter as well as the relevant provisions of the Court's Rules of Procedure. Five years after the first edition was published, the second edition of the Commentary embraces current events before the International Court of Justice as well as before other courts and tribunals relevant for the interpretation and application of its Statute. The Commentary provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of all legal questions and issues the Court has had to address in the past and will have to address in the future. It illuminates the central issues of procedure and substance that the Court and counsel appearing before it face in their day-to-day work. In addition to commentary covering all of the articles of the Statute of the ICJ, plus the relevant articles of the Charter of the United Nations, the book includes three scene-setting chapters: Historical Introduction, General Principles of Procedural Law, and Discontinuation and Withdrawal. The second edition of the Commentary adds two important and instructive chapters on Counter-Claims and Evidentiary Issues. The combination of expert editors and commentators, and their assessment of new developments in the important work of the ICJ, make this a landmark publication in the field of international law.

This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a full description of the judicial activity of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) during the busiest decade in its 50-year history (January 1, 1987 - December 31, 1996). The introductory chapter provides a basic description of the role and procedures of the ICJ, designed to facilitate a better understanding of its functioning. Actual statistics from the period 1987-1997 are used as examples. Ten chapters contain the scholarly commentaries of thirteen mainly American international lawyers on the twelve Judgements and five Advisory Opinions rendered by the ICJ between 1987 and 1997. Each commentary describes the facts of a particular case, the arguments of the parties involved and the decision of the ICJ. Each commentator also gives his personal assessment of the decision reviewed and explains the decision in the light of the Court's earlier jurisprudence and international law. Every chapter opens with a review of the judicial activity of the ICJ during a given year, using the General List of ICJ cases, pleadings filed, Orders, Judgements and Advisory Opinions issued and hearings held at the Peace Palace to describe the statistics on the docket of the ICJ, the composition of the ICJ (Judges and Judges ad hoc), the regional distribution to States parties in cases before the ICJ, together with a list of the most important ICJ literature. In sum, the book presents `all you ever wanted to know about the World Court' between 1987 and 1997 for both ICJ practitioners and students of international law. The book includes reprints from the American Journal of International Law as well as new material.
