Book Synopsis Methodological Aspects of Iranian Archaeology by : Kamal Aldin Niknami
Download or read book Methodological Aspects of Iranian Archaeology written by Kamal Aldin Niknami and published by British Archaeological Reports Oxford Limited. This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an overview of the history and present state of archaeology in Iran, taking the Palaeolithic as a case study. The first goal is to evaluate the distinctively national characteristics of archaeology in Iran, specifically developments in the 1960s and 1970s in relation to the 'New Archaeology' in the USA. Not all of that agenda was adopted, and because it was pioneered by anthropologists on relatively recent and simple New World sites, it is not totally applicable to the long historical sequence of complex Iranian mounds. The author argues that Iranian archaeology was in a sense left behind, 'out of date' and generally atheoretical, as its traditional authority structure prevented discussion of new ideas; it is predicted that the future will see a move to smaller projects deliberately designed to answer specific problems, together with a necessary focus on conservation and heritage management.

Download or read book Images in the making written by Ing-Marie Back Danielsson and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an analysis of archaeological imagery based on new materialist approaches. Reassessing the representational paradigm of archaeological image analysis, it argues for the importance of ontology, redefining images as material processes or events that draw together differing aspects of the world. The book is divided into three sections: ‘Emergent images’, which focuses on practices of making; ‘Images as process’, which examines the making and role of images in prehistoric societies; and ‘Unfolding images’, which focuses on how images change as they are made and circulated. Featuring contributions from archaeologists, Egyptologists, anthropologists and artists, it highlights the multiple role of images in prehistoric and historic societies, while demonstrating that scholars need to recognise their dynamic and changeable character.

Book Synopsis The European Iron Age by : John Collis
Download or read book The European Iron Age written by John Collis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-16 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious study documents the underlying features which link the civilizations of the Mediterranean - Phoenician, Greek, Etruscan and Roman - and the Iron Age cultures of central Europe, traditionally associated with the Celts. It deals with the social, economic and cultural interaction in the first millennium BC which culminated in the Roman Empire. The book has three principle themes: the spread of iron-working from its origins in Anatolia to its adoption over most of Europe; the development of a trading system throughout the Mediterrean world after the collapse of Mycenaean Greece and its spread into temperate Europe; and the rise of ever more complex societies, including states and cities, and eventually empires. Dr Collis takes a new look at such key concepts as population movement, diffusion, trade, social structure and spatial organization, with some challenging new views on the Celts in particular.
