Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "We present local and global techniques to visualize three-dimensional vector field data. Using the Line Integral Convolution (LIC) method to image the global vector field, our new algorithm allows the user to introduce colored 'dye' into the vector field to highlight local flow features. A fast algorithm is proposed that quickly recomputes the dyed LIC images. In addition, we introduce volume rendering methods that can map the LIC texture on any contour surface and/or translucent region defined by additional scalar quantities, and can follow the advection of colored dye throughout the volume."

Book excerpt: What Is Volumetric Display A volumetric display device is a graphic display device that forms a visual representation of an object in three physical dimensions, as opposed to the planar image of traditional screens that simulate depth through a number of different visual effects. One definition offered by pioneers in the field is that volumetric displays create 3D imagery via the emission, scattering, or relaying of illumination from well-defined regions in (x,y,z) space. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Volumetric display Chapter 2: Photolithography Chapter 3: Holography Chapter 4: Stereoscopy Chapter 5: Voxel Chapter 6: Tomography Chapter 7: Display device Chapter 8: Scientific visualization Chapter 9: Optical coherence tomography Chapter 10: Volume rendering Chapter 11: Light field Chapter 12: Stereo display Chapter 13: Autostereoscopy Chapter 14: HoloVID Chapter 15: Holographic display Chapter 16: Structured-light 3D scanner Chapter 17: Spinning mirror system Chapter 18: Multiscopy Chapter 19: Microscanner Chapter 20: MotionParallax3D Chapter 21: Scanning Fiber Endoscope (SFE) (II) Answering the public top questions about volumetric display. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exciting developments in earthquake science have benefited from new observations, improved computational technologies, and improved modeling capabilities. Designing models of the earthquake generation process is a grand scientific challenge due to the complexity of phenomena and range of scales involved from microscopic to global. Such models provide powerful new tools for the study of earthquake precursory phenomena and the earthquake cycle. Through workshops, collaborations and publications, the APEC Cooperation for Earthquake Simulations (ACES) aims to develop realistic supercomputer simulation models for the complete earthquake generation process, thus providing a "virtual laboratory" to probe earthquake behavior. Part II of the book embraces dynamic rupture and wave propagation, computational environment and algorithms, data assimilation and understanding, and applications of models to earthquakes. This part also contains articles on the computational approaches and challenges of constructing earthquake models.

More often than not, they choose the improper software tools and end up with unsatisfactory results. This book introduces and categorizes the most commonly used graphics tools and their applications. The purpose is not to provide an exhausting list of tools and their explicit functions, but rather to provide scientific researchers with different means and application areas in computer graphics, so as to help them efficiently use visualization, modeling, simulation, and virtual reality to complement their research needs. This guide includes coverage of the most widely used commercial software, freeware and open-source software.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses strategies for effectively portraying 3D flow using volume line integral convolution. Issues include defining an appropriate input texture, clarifying the distinct identities and relative depths of the advected texture elements, and selectively highlighting regions of interest in both the input and output volumes. A part from offering insights into the greater potential of 3D LIC as a method for effectively representing flow in a volume, a principal contribution of this work is the suggestion of a technique for generating and rendering 3D visibility-impeding 'halos' that can help to intuitively indicate the presence of depth discontinuities between contiguous elements in a projection and thereby clarify the 3D spatial organization of elements in the flow. The proposed techniques are applied to the visualization of a hot, supersonic, laminar jet exiting into a colder, subsonic coflow.
