Eveyln Pruitt of the U.S. Office of Naval Research (Estes and Jensen 1998) was first coin the term 'remote sensing' in 1958. Scientists used aerial photography for soil and crop surveys associated with agricultural areas (Goodman 1959). Remote Sensing is the science and art of acquiring information (spectral, spatial, and temporal) about material objects, area, or phenomenon, without coming into physical contact with the objects, or area, or phenomenon under investigation. Orbital platforms collect and transmit data from different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Remote sensing applications include monitoring deforestation areas, glacial features, and depth sounding of coastal and ocean depths.
