Book Synopsis Psychology of Religion by : Jacob A. van Belzen
Download or read book Psychology of Religion written by Jacob A. van Belzen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-16 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past four decades or so, the so-called psychology of religion – after having been deemed extinct, impossible or unlikely – has risen to prominence again: the number of publications is rapidly growing, an impressive secondary literature (handbooks, introductions, etc.) is available already, infrastructure has been developed (a number of new journals devoted to the subject have been founded, organizations have been established, increasingly funding is going to the area), attracting many new researchers. Organizations like the American Psychological Association are now publishing in the field of psychology of religion (and its Div. 36 [“psych of rel”] with almost 3,000 members is already midsized among the APA-divisions). This book documents this re-emergence and development.
Book Synopsis Sigmund Freud and Oskar Pfister on Religion by : Carlos Domínguez-Morano
Download or read book Sigmund Freud and Oskar Pfister on Religion written by Carlos Domínguez-Morano and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sigmund Freud and Oskar Pfister on Religion examines the dialogue between psychoanalysis and religion through the encounters of two men: the "unfaithful Jew" who founded psychoanalysis, and a pastor of profound religious faith and proven psychoanalytic conviction. Carlos Domínguez-Morano analyses the original encounters between Freud and Pfister and their respective positions, noting the incidences, impasses and progress of their discussions. The complex interactions between psychoanalysis and religion over time are considered, and Domínguez-Morano assesses the fundamental parameters of each perspective, with reference to Catholicism. The book explores the relationship between psychoanalysis and religion as a rich, ongoing, and unending dialogue and sheds new light on the origins of psychoanalysis. Sigmund Freud and Oskar Pfister on Religion will be of great interest to academics and scholars of psychoanalytic studies, religion, the history of psychology, and the history of ideas.

Download or read book Myth as Symbol written by Sonia Saporiti and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mythological patrimony is an excellent example of the unconscious creative ability that brings reason both to the existence of myth as well as to its symbolic function. Reconsidering the connection between literature and psychoanalysis, this study starts from the Jungian archetypal theory up to the Freudian unconscious and its ability to produce symbols, and provides the tools for a reading of the phenomenon of the literary reworking, in the modern age, of meaningful themes and mythological figures. Therefore, revising and rewriting the myth means thinking again about one’s cultural memory, attempting to re-propose in a new dimension the ever present questions that have not found an answer and which the figures of the myth symbolise across the time. The attention focuses on figures like the elementary spirits of Romantic imagery, in particular on that of the Wasserfrau, up to the analysis of a twentieth-century reinterpretation of the myth of Undine. Moreover the Medea myth is reconsidered starting from the contradiction implicit in this figure – and in that of every Mother Goddess – in order to then explore the most problematic and conflicting aspect of this image of womanhood, the infanticide, which over time becomes the symbol of the denial of the maternal principle.
Book Synopsis Antinomy and Symbol: Pavel Florensky’s Philosophy of Discontinuity by : Andrea Oppo
Download or read book Antinomy and Symbol: Pavel Florensky’s Philosophy of Discontinuity written by Andrea Oppo and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-10-31 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pavel Florensky (1882–1937) was a Russian philosopher, theologian, and scientist. He was considered by his contemporaries to be a polymath on a par with Pascal or Da Vinci. This book is the first comprehensive study in the English language to examine Florensky's entire philosophical oeuvre in its key metaphysical concepts. For Florensky, antinomy and symbol are the two faces of a single issue—the universal truth of discontinuity. This truth is a general law that represents, better than any other, the innermost structure of the universe. With its original perspective, Florensky’s philosophy is unique in the context of modern Russian thought, but also in the history of philosophy per se.
Book Synopsis IL SOGNATORE DEL "MONDO VERO" by : Alessio Arzuffi
Download or read book IL SOGNATORE DEL "MONDO VERO" written by Alessio Arzuffi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Ernesto De Martino on Religion by : Dr. Fabrizio M. Ferrari
Download or read book Ernesto De Martino on Religion written by Dr. Fabrizio M. Ferrari and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ernesto de Martino was a major critical thinker in the study of vernacular religions, producing innovative analyses of key concepts such as 'folklore', 'magic' and 'ritual'. His methodology stemmed from his training under the philosopher Benedetto Croce whilst his philosophical approach to anthropology borrowed from Marx and Gramsci. Widely celebrated in continental Europe, de Martino's contribution to the study of religion has not been fully understood in the Anglophone world though some of his works - 'Primitive Magic: the Psychic Powers of Shamans and Sorcerers' and 'The Land of Remorse: a Study of Southern Italian Tarantism' - have been translated. This volume presents a comprehensive overview of de Martino's life and work, the thinkers and theories which informed his writings, his contribution to the study of religions and the potential of his methodology for contemporary scholarship.
Book Synopsis IL GRANDE NIDO che ha dato ORIGINE al BIG BANG DEI BUCHI NERI DI STEPHEN HAWKING by : William Moreira
Download or read book IL GRANDE NIDO che ha dato ORIGINE al BIG BANG DEI BUCHI NERI DI STEPHEN HAWKING written by William Moreira and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-02-14 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Ana-María Rizzuto and the Psychoanalysis of Religion by : Martha J. Reineke
Download or read book Ana-María Rizzuto and the Psychoanalysis of Religion written by Martha J. Reineke and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ana María Rizzuto’s groundbreaking explorations of the formation of God representations in early childhood and their elaboration throughout the life cycle have made their mark, enriching the practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy as well as scholarship within the psychoanalytic study of religion. Assessing Rizzuto’s legacy on the thirty-fifth anniversary of the publication of The Birth of the Living God, contributors to this international collection of essays confirm the significance of Rizzuto’s contributions to psychoanalytic theories of religious experience. They also underscore Rizzuto’s most important contribution to clinical practice: rather than assert that psychoanalysis is incompatible with religious beliefs and practices or with spiritual concerns that patients may bring to a therapeutic context, Rizzuto makes room for the coexistence of psychoanalysis and religion in the therapeutic setting. Accompanied by illuminating commentaries by Rizzuto, the essays in this volume address a range of topics: developmental processes associated with God representations, psychotherapeutic treatment models informed by Rizzuto’s theory, the practice of psychotherapy in contexts shaped by Eastern religious traditions, monstrous referents in God representations, and the psychoanalysis of religion in light of the new atheism. Demonstrating how Rizzuto’s work has enhanced connections within and among psychoanalytic theories of religion, established pathways for new developments in psychotherapy, and facilitated interdisciplinary conversations, this volume showcases the compelling power of Rizzuto’s work and its ongoing influence.
