Book excerpt: Research on the deuteron relativistic wave function is reported. Bethe and Salpeter's relativistic wave equation is applied to the bound system of two particles with spin 1/2. After some very slight approximations, the solution of the infinite system of coupled integral equations allows the explicit structure of the wave matrices corresponding to the S and D states to be found. THE PERCENTAGE OF D state obtained is in good agreement with the experimental result.

Book Synopsis Relativistic Calculation of the Deuteron Electromagnetic Form Factor. Ii by : Franz Gross

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deuteron form factor is calculated in a one-pionexchange (OPE) approximation using single-variable unsubtracted dispersion relations in the squared-momentum-transfer variable. As a first step, the imaginary parts of the form factors are presented in terms of the four invariants of the deuteron-nucleon (d-N) vertex. The resulting equations are compared in detail with similar expressions obtained from the Jankus potential theory, and a clear understanding of the precise way in which the d-N invariants play the role of the deuteron wave function emerges, enabling us to obtain relativistic wave functions. This comparison also shows the presence of new relativistic terms not included in the Jankus results (in particular, a new term appears in the magnetic moment). Then, the imaginary parts of the d-N vertex invariants are calculated numerically. In this calculation the OPE contribution in its anamalous region is calculated exactly, while the contributions above the normal threshold are obtained by an educated guess based on sum rules which the invariants are assumed to satisfy. Finally, using these results, the form factors are calculated numerically. With the assumption of unsubtracted dispersion relations, it is necessary to assume only the charge and mass of the deuteron, and the pion-nucleon coupling constant, in order to completely determine the form factors. The numerical results for the magnetic and quadrupole moments agree with experiment to within 2%; the D-state probability if 5.5% but is not very reliably determined, and the other results, while less good, are still quite reasonable. Book Synopsis Covariant Spectator Theory of $np$ Scattering by :
Download or read book Covariant Spectator Theory of $np$ Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the effective range expansions for the 1S0 and 3S1 scattering phase shifts, and the relativistic deuteron wave functions that accompany our recent high precision fits (with \chi^2/N{data} \simeq 1) to the 2007 world np data below 350 MeV. The wave functions are expanded in a series of analytical functions (with the correct asymptotic behavior at both large and small arguments) that can be Fourier-transformed from momentum to coordinate space and are convenient to use in any application. A fortran subroutine to compute these wave functions can be obtained from the authors.

Book Synopsis Relativistic Particle Physics by : H.M. Pilkuhn
Download or read book Relativistic Particle Physics written by H.M. Pilkuhn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why study relativistic particle physics? Because of deeper understanding, curiosity and applications. Consider first deeper understanding. Physics forms the basis of many other sciences, and relativistic particle physics forms the basis of physics. Starting from nonrelativistic point mechanics, there are three major steps: first to classical (unquantized) relativistic electrodynamics, then to non relativistic quantum mechanics and finally to relativistic quantum physics. This book describes the third step. Relativistic particle problems which are mainly classical (such as synchrotron radiation) are largely omitted (see for example Jackson 1975). I have divided the subject into several smaller steps. The step from the Schrödinger equation to the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations (chapter 1) is easy, apart from logical inconsistencies in limiting cases. Chapter 2 deals mainly with two-particle problems. From two-particle unitarity (sect. 2-5) and a symmetric treatment of projectile and target in the Born approxima tion to scattering (sect. 2-7), one is able to deduce recoil corrections to the relativistic one-particle equations (mainly the reduced mass, sect. 2-9). The final formulas provide a rather firm basis for atomic physics. Quantum electrodynamics (QED) is presented in chapter 3. Clearly, many things must be omitted if one allots one chapter to the subject of whole 1976, Källen 1958, Akhiezer and Berestetskii books (Jauch and Rohrlieh 1965, Bjorken and Drell 1965, Landau and Lifshitz 1971, 1975, and others).
Book Synopsis New Approximation for Glauber Theory on Stripping of Relativistic Deuterons. [Momentum Distribution]. by :
Download or read book New Approximation for Glauber Theory on Stripping of Relativistic Deuterons. [Momentum Distribution]. written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The momentum distribution of forward protons from relativistic collisions of deuterons with nuclei is computed from a Glauber theoretical Ansatz of Bertocchi and Tekou. The outgoing proton-neutron scattering state (disintegrated deuteron) with a plane wave minus the components of this plane wave along the deuteron bound state vector is approximated. With no fitted parameters good agreement is found with data from the reaction d + C12 .-->. p + X in the region corresponding to nonrelativistic Fermi momenta in the forward direction. At more relativistic Fermi momenta, the model deviates more from the data, which can be due to incorrect choice of the short distance part of the deuteron wave function as well as off-shell effects in the deuteron.
