Book Synopsis Probability and Mechanics of Ship Collision and Grounding by : Shengming Zhang
Download or read book Probability and Mechanics of Ship Collision and Grounding written by Shengming Zhang and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2019-05-18 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probability and Mechanics of Ship Collision and Grounding provides simplified analytical procedures for ship collision and grounding assessments, including probabilistic methods, an estimation of the energy released during collisions, and a prediction of the extent of damage on involved structures. An additional chapter is dedicated to current finite element analysis techniques that are used for estimating structural damage during ship collisions. The book encapsulates reliable and fast analysis methods for collision and grounding assessment, presenting tactics that have been extensively validated with experimental and numerical results. In addition, all described analysis methods include realistic calculation examples to provide confidence in their use. - Provides mathematical expressions for the determination of probability of ship grounding events, ship to ship collisions and ship collisions against fixed and floating offshore installations, i.e., offshore wind parks and bridges over navigational channels - Provides analytical solutions to calculate the energy released for crushing in ship collision scenarios and loading on ship bottoms in grounding events - Reviews damage theorems and materials modellings and presents simplified analytical methods to determine the structural damage of ship and offshore structures in ship collisions and grounding - Provides calculation examples for each analysis method

Book Synopsis Marine Simulation and Ship Manoeuvrability by : M.S. Chislett
Download or read book Marine Simulation and Ship Manoeuvrability written by M.S. Chislett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real-time, interactive ship simulators limped onto the scene, in the wake of flight simulators, some years ago. The maritime industries have a long history of conservatism, but this is now changing rapidly. The information age has also swept over ships and shipping, and has been taken to heart to such an extent that, for example, flight simulators now cooperate with ship simulators and import useful new concepts and methodologies. The more than 50 papers contained in this book show what and why. Although traditionally conservative, the marine world is also traditionally international and this has not changed. The papers in the book are by leading authors from all over the world and provide a detailed snap-shot of the rapidly advancing state-of-the-art, together with pointers to the future. The overall theme of MARSIM '96 and therefore also of this book is: Vessel manouevrability and marine simulation research, training and assessment, and includes original papers on topics such as bridge resource management, distant learning and simulators coupled via The Internet, virtual reality, neural networks, rudder-propeller hydrodynamics, prime mover models, squat in shallow water, and many more.

Book Synopsis The Precautionary Principle in Marine Environmental Law by : Bénédicte Sage-Fuller
Download or read book The Precautionary Principle in Marine Environmental Law written by Bénédicte Sage-Fuller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines whether the jurisdiction of coastal States under international law can be extended to include powers of intervention towards vessels posing a significant risk to their coastal and marine environment, but which have not yet been involved in any incident or accident. The books sets out how it is that coastal State jurisdiction can indeed be seen as including powers of intervention towards High Risks Vessels before an incident or accident happens, on the basis of the precautionary principle. The precautionary principle requires taking action when a risk of damage to the environment is suspected, but cannot be confirmed scientifically. The book thus considers the potential opportunities for the coastal state under international law to regulate international shipping where they consider vessels to an unacceptable risk to the environment, in order to prevent or minimise the risk of occurrence of the accident or incident leading to damage. The book acknowledges that this puts into question some very old and established principles of the law of the sea, most importantly the principle of freedom of navigation. But Bénédicte Sage-Fuller contends that this change would itself be a consequence of the evolution, since the end of WWII, of on the one hand international law of the sea itself, and of international environmental law on the other hand.
